Devilsaur Vs. Spirit Beast

King Krush, my newest Exotic Pet, leveled to 80 last night while doing Heroic Drak’theron, so before I logged off I did a real quick and very crude DPS comparison between my 2 Exotic Ferocity pets. The results were pretty predictable. While Loque’nahak’s damage has been buffed a little, it still needs some work to be on par with the Devilsaur.

My crude testing consisted of 2 minutes precisely of pure white damage on the Boss Target Dummy in Ironforge and no pet specials or Kill Command. I just fired off auto-shots to proc Go For the Throat. The end result was the Devilsaur edging out the Spirit Beast to the tune of 21 DPS. Both pets have the same identical spec, which looks like this. Again, this is an inconclusive test considering no specials were used and I wasn’t raid buffed, but it does insinuate that Monstrous Bite wins out a little over Spirit Strike.

My talent spec isn’t for maximum raid DPS. It’s more of a DPS-centric PvP build. I have 5/5 Endurance Training, Spirit Bond, 1/3 Cobra Strikes, Aimed Shot, and only 1/2 Go for the Throat. I still do quite well with this spec in heroics, and my first trip to 10 man Naxx had me topping the meters on occasion. Anyway, that’s why the DPS may look a bit low to some of you well-geared folk with the ideal raid spec.

Spirit Strike did not miss at all, but it only crit twice out of 16 casts. I think that next time I’ll stretch out the testing to say five minutes. That should give me a better average for Cobra Strikes procs.

My First Heroic in WotLK and Now Naxxramas Tonight!

Last night I completed my first ever Heroic Dungeon in Wrath of the Lich King. In fact, the only new instances I’ve been in are The Nexus, Utgarde Pinnacle, Gundrak and one time I joined a Malygos 10 man. I don’t do too many dungeons these days as you can see, because most of my guild is ready to log by the time I can begin an instance, which is around 11pm-12am server time.

I typically only like to PuG if the group consists of at least 2 of my guildies. I’ve had some excellent random groups in the past, but I’ve had some equally miserable ones as well. So, I’ve left the instances alone and have just been mainly queueing for battlegrounds & some casual arena, taming & leveling pets, helping my wife level her 76 Rogue, and doing the occasional daily on Garwulf.

Last night I received a tell from one of my guildies asking if I wanted to come finish Heroic Utgarde Pinnacle. 9 times out of 10 I would have turned it down, but she caught me in the right mood, plus she’s a sweetie and I couldn’t refuse. We sailed through the last 2 bosses and I had a blast. I ended up continuing with the group into Heroic Gundrak for the daily. I ended the night with 9 Emblems of Heroism and 2 new pieces of gear.

I won the Meteroite Whetstone from King Ymiron and Helmet of the Shrine (I know… expertise, wtf? It’s for my melee set… yeah, that’s it) from Eck the Ferociuos. The helmet is actually the best PvE helm I have at the moment, even with the useless expertise on it. I’m just wondering if pet’s expertise scales at all with a Hunter’s. I’m thinking no, but that’d make it almost useful if it did. Regardless, I slapped an Arcanum of Torment on it and threw in a Chaotic Skyflare Diamond and Rigid Autumn’s Glow. Having the gem slots in that helm helps me a lot. My hit rating needs some love for sure.

…did I ever tell ya ’bout the time I tamed that great big massively monstrous Devilsaur in Sholazar Basin, known as “King Krush“. Oooohs and Aaaahs ensue…

For those of you unaware, King Krush is a rare exotic pet in Sholazar basin, only tameable by Hunters with the 51 point Beast Mastery talent, and is probably the biggest taming challenge in the entire game. He’s only level 75, but he hits like a wrecking ball and casts a 5 second fear that interrupts taming. Solo-taming him requires a little extra effort.

Alrighty… here’s the story on how I successfully solo tamed this beastie. I know I’m probably not the first guy to have pulled this off, but I have yet to see a comprehensive and detailed guide on how to do it. So here ya go.
