Skitterflame - Rare Lava Spider in Patch 4.2

Skitterflame is another of the rare beast taming challenges being added in Patch 4.2. He’s a red lava spider found on Fireplume Peak in the Molten Front.

The trick to taming Skitterflame is you must cool him down enough so that you can tame him. Also, his damage scales based on his current energy level. As you’ll see in the video, he hits pretty hard when at full energy. 😉

So… you need to use ice traps to not only snare him to protect yourself from his blows, but also to get him cooled down enough for taming. The video states that he becomes tamable at around 20% energy.

Solix

Solix - Rare Lava Spider

Solix is a rare orange lava spider being added in the 4.2 Firelands Patch. He can be found in the Molten Front, within the Igneous Depths.

Solix is among the eight new Taming Challenge pets, so he requires a little more planning and effort than the drop a Freezing Trap and tame types of pets.

Kirix

Kirix - Rare Green Spider in Patch 4.2

Kirix is a rare spider that will be added in Patch 4.2. He is among the eight new taming challenges that Blizzard is providing in the Firelands patch. Each one of the eight pets is supposedly going to require the hunter to approach the tame with some sort of strategy.

The difficulty with taming Kirix appears to be his Toxic Presence buff which causes nature damage to all nearby players. The player in the video mentioned only being able to survive within it for about three seconds, so it hits for a considerable amount of damage.

Madexx

Madexx, the rare scorpid found in Uldum, is perhaps one of the most sought after, yet difficult-to-obtain hunter pets in all of Cataclysm. I’ve been looking for him off and on the past few months. Yesterday I happened to get lucky — he actually spawned right in front of me.

Madexx

The reason it’s so hard for hunters to acquire this pet is because his spawn location is in a high traffic area. He spawns right near an archaeology dig site, plus this area is also a popular place for questing and farming leather. On top of that, players are always flying through Uldum looking for Camel Figurines, often passing right through Madexx’s ‘hood.

Sambas

Sambas Rare LionWhile waiting in the queue for last night’s random heroic, I decided to take a trip to the Twilight Highlands to buy a leatherworking recipe or two, and just maybe… get a bead on Sambas. This cat had eluded me for a long time – up until last night.

When patrolling for Sambas, I’d usually just take one swoop through the Twilight Laglands, starting at the southern-most spot by Victor’s Point, heading NE up past Thundermar, then cutting due east to his eastern-most spawn location. I’d performed this patrol a few times per week since I’d hit 85. After awhile of not seeing him, then watching other hunters traipse around with him in BGs and in SW, I started to lose interest – seeing as he was quickly becoming a common, uncommon (ie: rare) pet.

However, after actually taming him, I’m happy I didn’t continue to feast upon my bowl of sour grapes and give up my quest to acquire him. 😉

He’s really a visually striking pet. I tend to lean towards old-school models when it comes to different pet looks, but I really like this new lion model. It’s… in a word… bitchin. Badass comes to mind as well, but I like bitchin as it pertains to Sambas. 😉

At any rate… last night as I was just about to cut east towards the coastal spawn point, I targeted Sambas with my rare pet macro, just north of Thundermar. I wasn’t flipping out mind you, but I did think, “Aaahhh… tonight must be my night!” I landed, dropped a freezy trap and got my tame on.
