Kelwina’s entry

Kel’s entry was another solid submission in the Celestial Steed Contest. Enjoy.

Celestial Steed

The sound of waves crashing against the wooden vessel met the long ears of the Night Elf who sat inside her cabin below deck. The boat’s rocking kept her from enjoying any sleep and allowed her mind to wander to the mysteries of her destination. Days previous, the magnificent Stormwind City was besieged by the wretched Scourge. Led by the messenger of the Lich King himself, the army damaged the great harbor and gave the members of the Alliance the last push they needed to bring the war to the undead. The Night Elf Kelwina had fought bravely during the attack on Stormwind and for that reason enlisted into the Alliance Vanguard and grudgingly accepted. Now the Alliance warship was on its way to Valiance Keep, one of many new Alliance strongholds.

Boz’s Entry

Boz took a deep breath as he stepped out of the portal and into the fresh air of Dalaran, taking a moment to rest on a bench near the central fountain. He stretched his arms wide across the bench and slid down, flopping his head back to look skyward, taking a long, deep breath. It felt good to clear his lungs of the rot that permeated Icecrown Citadel and the warm air felt wonderful on his skin as the ice melted from his spaulders. Though Sindragosa would no longer threaten the world, the Frost Dragon’s effects were not so easy to dismiss from his exhausted body so soon.

It was then Boz saw it descend and light upon the grass of the park: A steed woven with stars. They twisted and swirled inside its body, which seemed bound by the very essence of the universe. He rubbed his eyes with his thumb and forefinger, but there was no disputing the image before him, and its soft whinny confirmed what his eyes told him. On its back rode – of all things – the filth of the Horde. The same Horde that had that very day attempted to prevent his assault on Icecrown Citadel. Their pettiness in the face of obliteration was disgusting. How did they not see that the Alliance was trying to save everyone, Horde and Alliance alike?

The star pony seemed to agree with Boz, as it buckled under the weight of the fat Tauren stressing its spine. At least, he imagined it had a spine, or possibly a constellation. It was difficult to say, but he imagined briefly the pony’s cry for release; to be free. Where had it come from? What was it, exactly? His heart ached to help the poor animal. Cows were not meant to ride horses, let alone such a majestic creature!

More stories incoming

I meant to have the other Celestial Steed Contest Entries posted by now, but I had been buried with last weekend’s birthday party planning. Our little man turned 3 on Sunday. Then, no sooner was that over with, I find myself coming down with some horrible bug. Apart from a few hours, I’d been in bed from about 11pm Sunday …

The Journal of Huugg Staffshatter, Son of the Frostwolf Clan

Day One of the Second Year In The Warchief’s Charge

Huugg, Orc Hunter

It has been a long, cold journey to Northrend…

Many of the soldiers on the journey with me have been severely frostbitten. A troll named Tar’jit fell asleep in the bottom of the zeppelin, never to awake. He had died of hypothermia.

I spoke with some of the other warriors in the Second Legion while we made the trip from Orgrimmar to Warsong Hold. One of them had been stationed in Dragonblight for a month before he’d been sent back to Kalimdor to be treated for wounds sustained while fighting at the Wrathgate. He spoke of the legendary empire of the undead Scourge, tales of behemoth spiders withering away from thousands of years of decay, and of the hated Lich King, Arthas.

He told many stories to those of us new to Northrend. Most were frightening tales, worse than any I had heard before. Nothing I had experienced during my tour of duty at Hellfire Peninsula one year previous would even come close to the horrors I was likely to encounter in Northrend.

Yet, there was one story of his that enchanted me… one that grabbed me…

A big round of applause

Huugg atop his Celestial Steed

…for… Huugg!

Huugg was the big winner in this past week’s Celestial Steed Mount Contest. 😀

Like I said yesterday, this was no easy choice for me. Truth be told, I had 4 for consideration, with 3 of the entries as winners during various times of the judging.

Huugg’s ended up being my eventual choice for a few reasons…

For one, I just really liked the story. I thought that he did a nice job developing the plot and the characters, including Narvas of course.
