Cleaning house

July 20, 2014 By Garwulf 3 Comments

Some of you may be happy to know that I’ve returned my attention to the site and I’m busy in the backend cleaning up spam comments and making general updates & improvements. 😀

Unfortunately, the spam tends to accrue when I’ve gone absent for months at a time, so surgically removing the bogus comments amongst the legitimate ones is tedious job, albeit a labor of love. Even though I may turn my back on the Lodge now and again as my life dictates me to do so, this site is still my baby. I’ve spent many, many hours in here and I’m not about to let the place get trashed!

SPAM Comments

At least not ALL of the spam is getting past the gatekeeper.

Especially right now as I’m preparing for Warlords! 😀

The comments are clean now, so onto the forum… Wish me luck! I may be in there for awhile. Looks like some spammers had a field day in there while I was away. :-\

Also, if you happen to notice the site start looking a little wonky, know that I’m updating the theme framework. I’m going to try and get this beast responsive and mobile-friendly – including the forum.

Almost back…

July 14, 2014 By Garwulf 5 Comments

For the loyal few that still return here once in awhile in hopes of seeing something new up on the home page, I once again apologize for my sudden disappearance.

However, those of you who’ve followed the site for any length of time probably also know that I’m good like that. 😉 I tend to go off the grid now and again without warning, but that doesn’t mean I won’t resurface at some point. In fact, I’m still looking forward to WoD and I noticed just last night that I’ve had beta access for nearly 3 weeks.

Downloading the beta client as I type this… 🙂

Due to my inactivity as of late, I’m sure the changes will be overwhelming, but I’m anxious to have a look. I’ll check back soon. 🙂

Taming a Direhorn

June 1, 2014 By Garwulf Leave a Comment

As I await the coming expansion, I’ve been having fun checking a few things off of my MoP to-do list. Most recently I went out and tamed one of those fancy dinosaur pets that the kids love.

I had been under the impression that taming a Direhorn required some sort of insane reputation grind, but that’s not the case at all. Many of you probably knew this already, but it’s actually quite easy. If you’ve been eyeballing the Direhorns and wondering how to go about getting one, I’ve put together a concise how-to for noobs like me.

1. Fly to northern Kun-Lai Summit

2. Hop on your flying mount and head due north.

3. Swim to the island. Horde flight point is on the right, Alliance on the left.

4. Look for Dinomancers and grind them until you get Ancient Tome of Dinomancy.

5. Read the book and learn the spell.

6. Tame your Direhorn of choice.

Memorable WoW Moments: Mist Howler

March 11, 2014 By Garwulf 5 Comments

mist_howler_rare_wolfThese days Mist Howler is nothing special, apart from him being a rare spawn, but back in the day he was a prized pup. Mist Howler was one of the few pets available with a very fast attack speed, which was most beneficial for caster interrupts in PvP. There were a handful of faster pets, but Mist Howler was one of the few wolves with the fast attack speed, plus he was the only FAS wolf with the “wolf” model, as opposed to the “worg” look.

The minute I reached Ashenvale with Garwulf I had to have me one of the light gray wolves. It was my absolute favorite pet look at the time. Later on when I found out that there was a really special wolf with that model – I had to have him.

I searched for this pet off and on for months to no avail. Trying to find Mist Howler was like tracking down a sasquatch, and I began to think he was just a myth. Eventually I threw in the towel once I hit the 50s and was able to go after such pets as Spiteflayer and Deathmaw, both of which had the even faster 1.2 sec attack speed.

My search for Mist Howler was put on hold…until later.

Because hunters are so awesome, I ended up rolling another one back in vanilla – partly so that I could try huntering as a dwarf, but also so that I could tame some more pets! We only really had 2 functional stable slots back then, so if you wanted more pets you had to have more hunters! Once my dwarf gained the ability to tame, my first target was Bjarn. My second target….you guessed it…Mist Howler!

Right around the time I hit 20 or 21 I made the journey to Kalimdor, then on to Ashenvale to look for this ghost. I swear, Mist Howler was and still is one of the least seldom seen pets in the game, for me at least. He is extremely hard to get. This is partly because his spawn timer is pretty lengthy. I seem to recall he spawned only twice per day, and what made matters worse is he would often spawn in high traffic areas where he’d often be killed by questing players.

The second time around I still had a terrible time trying to find this guy until one day…I logged in and patrolled his spawn areas and…boom! There he was. Sitting atop this rock right next to that first little empty house as you enter Ashenvale from the south. I was so pleased to finally get the chance to tame this elusive pet, and to this day, it’s still one of the fondest hunter-pet-taming memories I have.

Although the story isn’t all that exciting, taming Mist Howler was a very memorable WoW moment for this hunter. 😉

Too bad I don’t have a screenshot of my dwarf with Mist Howler. I searched and searched, but it seems I had a hard time finding my screenshot button back then. I did find a picture of him with Death Flayer, so take that!

Memorable WoW Moments: Epic Halaa PvP Raids

February 28, 2014 By Garwulf 2 Comments

Halaa from above

On my server Halaa wasn’t exactly a hotbed of activity back in TBC, but the battles that did occur there from time to time were incredibly fun. I recall one battle in which there were 2 raid groups formed on each side of horde and alliance, which lasted for over an hour. It was during this battle that I earned the necessary tokens for my Dark War Talbuk, which is still among my 5 favorite ground mounts. This mount was not easy to get back then, so I would imagine it’s near-impossible to obtain now.

This was also a great era for Beast Mastery hunters, as we were incredibly powerful during this period. BM DPS was crazy, plus we still had the 18 second CC immunity from TBW. I was raiding and doing arena in those days as well, which had me very well geared. It was quite fun to blow stuff up in an epic PvP raid setting.

Those fierce battles over Halaa back in The Burning Crusade were among my most memorable WoW moments. I can only hope that something similar will be introduced in Warlords of Draenor. 😉
