Checking in

Greetings from the Oregon coast.

I wanted to pop in and say hello. πŸ˜€ I’ve been enjoying some much needed rest and relaxation up here… it’s been awesome.

I’ve been pretty detached for the most part (kinda the idea), but I have managed to get online a time or two in order to check my e-mail and to make sure everything’s in order while I’m away. Anyway… I noticed that the NDA was lifted this past week. What timing… :-\

After having gone four years without a vacation, I just so happen to bail during one of the most WoW newsworthy weeks of 2010. I’ve skimmed over some of the news, butΒ I won’t have an opportunity to really explore things until I get home. I had grand plans of being able to work from the field, but that ain’t hap’nin. Prolly a good thing. πŸ˜‰

Anyhow… I did peep this little news gem just a few moments ago over on MMO-Champion

Hunter Pets in Cataclysm
We’re in the middle of converting the stables over to the new model.

New model:

You have 5 active pets and 20 (or more) stable slots. You can summon an active pet whenever you want, out of combat. This replaces the remote stable spell. In other words, if you have a crab, a bear and a wolf, you can swap from wolf to bear in between encounters.

You must visit a stable master to change which are the active pets though. There are a lot of stable slots, so you can catch Spirit Beasts or rare spawns or whatever you want, even if you don’t think you will use them often.

Exciting stuff indeed.

I know this change was mentioned inΒ a prior update, but the part we didn’t know was just how many pets we’d be able to keep stabled. If this system goes live, then that will mean a total of 25 possible pets we’ll have access to. πŸ˜€

Based upon this early description, it sounds like the ability to call upon various stabled pets will remain as it is now (5 in the bullpen), with the exception of there being no coodown. It looks as if we’ll be able to literally use a different pet for every single pull if we so desired, just as long as we’re not in combat while summoning the pet.

Not like we really need 25 pets, but hey… I’m not complaining. πŸ˜‰ I may even go collect a few more Spirit Beasts just for fun.

Well, that’s about it for now. I just wanted to make a quick blip about this new stable dynamic and share in the joy. I may pop in again before too long if I get a few more free minutes.

As for right now.. last I checked it was about beer thirty. bbl.

  1. I also hope that this added slot change DOES NOT mean that all hunters get to tame exotic pets. Part of the charm of being BM is getting to tame pets other specs can’t. I remain, however, so in love with the promise of all pets doing equal damage and having varying special abilitites.

  2. Lol Garwulf, I figured you would enjoy this. Hell I may actually fill up those 5 spots just to see what kind of dps comparison I get out of each one. I could always switch out the wasp during a nature resist heavy fight, and what not. Looks like there is finally enough incentive for me to actually tame a few new pets. I’m not opposed to taming pets, but I just don’t see the purpose in min-maxing my pet when I really like my wasp.:)

  3. I officially endorse this feature, I am 4-4 spirit beasts and also have Grubthor, so got no room for any of the other rare spawns, or even a generic wolf to be able to raid as Survival.

    • I’ll finally be able to have 4 exotic BM PvP pets, my Krushers, Loque, Ghost Wolf, and whatever else my hunter heart desires.

      Hell… I’d a been happy with 10 slots, but 25 gives me a semi.

Epic taming adventures on the way…

Now all we need is a quad-spec feature and I’m golden. Is it too much to ask for dual specs for both PvE and PvP..?

      I don’t think so… πŸ˜‰

Wait… I need an extreme solo spec too. Let’s make it quintuple specs. πŸ˜€

    • I am in the same boat, brudda….card carrying member of the SB4 Club with Nuramoc for PvP. I GOTZ NO ROOMZ IN MAH STABLEZ!!!! This will be one of, if not the, most welcome addition to the class for me come Cata.

I play to have fun. Taming rare pets is fun. More pet slots = more fun. Win4me!

Now if they would just go ahead and announce that they’re adding Gnome hunters and letting us tame the Hound of Cuthulas I’d be happy as a hot hog in a cool puddle of mud!
