Hunt For The Elusive Spirit Beast: Day Four

Still no sign of Loque’nahak. I felt confident once I could fly through the area that I would nab him. This guy (or gal apparently) is slippery. One great thing about being able to fly is you can sit atop the northern-most pillar and cast Eagle Eye on two of his spawn locations. This cuts down on travel time.

I spent most the evening flying all over the basin spamming my /target loque macro. Nothing. I’ve even disabled Pitbull so I would be sure not to miss the silvery dragon portrait should I target him (man I love the sight of that portrait border – it gets me all excited).

This pet is far and away the most difficult to find and tame. These are the reasons:

This post has been updated on 12/9. It seems now that there are a minimum of 7 spawn locations as opposed to the 5 that were previously listed. The map reflects the updated locations.

• He is a rare spawn (I’ll refer to Loque as a he for the time being)
• Loque’s spawn timer is every six hours, and it is reported that he is only out for 10 minutes maximum unless tamed or killed. If this is true, then that means he’s only up for a maximum of 40 minutes per day. Even if the 10 minute timer is a myth, it’s unlikely he’d last beyond that anyway.
• When arriving at one of his spawn locations, four out of five times you will see dead mobs everywhere. Three of his five known spawn points are in extremely high traffic areas. They’re also areas which contain mobs that need to be killed for quests. If he were to pop while someone was there he’d stick out like a sore thumb and be targeted right away.
• Sholazar Basin is a very busy area right now, and it is full of mining nodes. Loque’s spawn points are typically on the outer edges of the basin where ore is most plentiful. Miners patrol the outer rim of the basin constantly. Four out of his five locations are right next to where mineral nodes spawn. He is a very attractive target for miners to kill because…
• He drops blues and is part of the Northern Exposure and Frostbitten achievements.
• Not only do you have to contend with players who will kill him on sight, but you also are competing with lots of other Hunters who wish to tame Loque and are “searching for him” just like you are.
• Last but not least… and this is the most significant part of the stacked deck… HE HAS AT LEAST SEVEN CONFIRMED SPAWN LOCATIONS!!!

Here’s a map of the Sholazar Basin with the 7 known spawn locations for the Spirit Beast Loque’nahak. I’ve also read about unconfirmed sightings just south of the Nesingwary camp, and north of Skyreach Pillar.
