Hey Folks

garwulf_wave

My apologies to those of you who still pop in here from time to time looking for signs of life. I am still active in-game, I am most definitely looking forward to Warlords of Draenor, and I am truly hoping I can get back into some sort of rhythm around here. I miss being at least semi-regular with the posting, and I dearly miss the once lively community of players who used to make this site a frequent stop on their travels throughout the WoW blogospehere.

Talk is cheap, and I feel in order to make any sort of strides to returning to some sense of routine, I need to just start producing again. I honestly don’t have too much guide-worthy stuff to contribute these days, but I figure if I can at least get in the habit of blogging again, it’ll be much easier to get on track with a few guides here and there once Warlords of Draenor is released.

That being said, I came up with an idea the other day that should give me enough content ideas to get the ball rolling, and hopefully, keep it rolling.

I miss WoW blogging. I really do.

But the problem is…with time being so precious to me these days, when it comes down to blogging or playing, playing wins out every time. Not to mention, there wouldn’t be much use in WoW blogging if I weren’t playing WoW now would there? 😉

Even so, I’m not really doing much of anything exciting these days in-game. Much of what I’ve been up to lately is leveling a Paladin…*GASP*!

In fact, it just so happens that I quite enjoy the Paladin; so much so that he’s now my highest level alt. In BC I leveled a Druid to 70, and in Wrath I leveled the obligatory DK to 80, but both of those toons have done nothing but mule items the past few years. Neither class was nearly as enjoyable as my hunter, so why bother..? 🙂

I have a Rogue that I started leveling in Cataclysm, but interest in him fizzled after I hit 62 or 63. Apart from Garwulf, the only other toon I would typically play was my dwarf hunter.

Then, one day, I was feeling adventurous and thought it might be fun to try leveling a Pally. Years ago I did level one to 19, but I built him solely for the purpose of crushing 10-19 WSG (even though I sucked as a Pally). The class didn’t interest me too much back in those days, but I gotta admit… they’re pretty fun to play now. Hunter is still far and away my favorite, and always will be, but it’s kinda fun going back through the leveling experience – especially as a plate-wearing tankadin.

Anyway…enough of that Paladin business.

As I was saying at the top of this post, I really want to just start blogging again, so…I’m going to try. As has always been the case, the longer I am absent, the harder it is to come back, and the more difficult it is for me to determine what to discuss. I feel like the pressure becomes greater and greater, so that the longer I stay away, the more I feel obligated to come back with some really great stuff.

Trouble is, between how much the game has simplified over the years, combined with my intermittent 2-3 month breaks and increased casual-ness, that doesn’t make for a lot of golden content. WoW is evolving (some would say devolving) quickly these days, so if you don’t keep up with the changes it becomes very frustrating, especially when you were once maybe viewed as a class authority.

Years ago I used to keep current on stuff, visiting sites like MMO Champion, WoW Insider, ArenaJunkies, etc…pretty much daily. Nowadays I often find myself logging in and going, “hey, wait a minute…what happened to this spell, and how come this class is wrecking my face now, and why doesn’t this macro work anymore, and where did Readiness go, and whoa…I can Disengage out of combat now…cool!”.

In other words, I’ve not been keeping up on things nearly as much the past few years. 😉 In the early days, things were much different for me and I had a lot more time to devote to Huntsman’s Lodge, and while I do think that is pretty normal, I do struggle with the fact that I’ve let things go dormant here for as long as 3, 4, 5 months at a stretch.

Even though I neglect it at times, the site is important to me. Although I’m waaay semi-retired these days, there was a time when I worked pretty hard at this, and I’ve always felt a kinship with the hunter community.

NO ONE I know IRL plays this game. Crazy, right..?! Having this outlet has always been great, as you folks are the only people I know (outside of the friends I’ve made in WoW) that can relate to – and appreciate – my musings and experiences.

I used to struggle with this isolation and often had a bittersweet relationship with this game due to that fact, but these days I’ve come to terms with it. I truly enjoy WoW, and more importantly, I love experiencing the game as a hunter.

Though it may have appeared I’ve been drifting off into the sunset and losing interest in the game, it’s actually quite the contrary. I’m super pumped for Warlords of Draenor. In fact, my interest is so renewed that not only have I been getting my lore on (more on this later…), I’m actually hoping to attend BlizzCon this year.

Alrighty…well it’s getting late and I need to get some rest, but I am glad to have taken this time to end the silence. Thanks for listening and I’ll be back soon. 🙂

I promise.

  1. Well, well, well…..my old friend.

I, too, had drifted away from both the game and the Lodge. I blame much of it on the absolute blast that is Disney Infinity. I’ve been playing that game almost non-stop with my son. About a month ago he built a paintball battleground and we have had some truly EPIC paintball battles.

Needless to say, shooting guns at stuff always make me think of my poor neglected Rustee and my lapsed WoW subscription. I got super-jacked about the game when all the WoD stuff was announced. However, I now find myself hoping that, since there will be no new race or class introduced, that the “big ticket item” of the expansion will be the lifting of the race/class restricitions. I can’t tell you how strong the fire still burns for my wanting to be able to have a gnome hunter. The more I think about it, the more I want WoD to finally give it to me. And I think about it. ALOT. Its almost getting to the point that, if WoD DOESN’T lift the race/class restrictions, I will be massively disappointed. What’s a gnome-loving fool gonna do? Amirite?!

Anyway Gar, I was so happy to drop in and see that you, too, had gotten back into the groove. Take it easy and please offer up a prayer to your NE gods that WoD lets me unleash gnome-hunters on the World. Of Warcraft!

  2. Definately good to hear from you again Gar. Yes, I’m still popping in here from time to time. Still going at it on my Hunter (only fully raid geared toon I have at the moment). I have been playing my Rogue a bit lately, mostly PvP. I also have my Paladin fully leveled but he is only there for making potions for my main toon.

  3. I used to love reading this blog, very happy you plan to be active again. Feels like the hunter blogs that actually talk about hunters are disappearing fast.

    @jinglz, that’d be a coincidence… not an irony.

    • Thanks for the warm welcome back jinglz and Amourice. I know its been ages since there was some consistency around here, but I’m feeling good about my chances of making a comeback this time. 🙂 I’m going to get through the dip, I swear. I’m notorious for returning with a flurry of activity for a week or two, then going awol for a few months, but I’m a lean into it this time.

In a way, it almost feels like I’m starting a fresh blog, which is sorta cool, although I know my analytics say otherwise. 😉

I miss all of you! It’s so nice to actually see some comments here for a change! 😀

  4. It’s good to hear from you, and its ironic that you’ve been playing a paladin. I was into my hunter again full force and then decide to try my hand at my neglected paladin… lo and behold, when I moved servers I took my paladin and now it’s highest geared and the only toon on my roster with the epic cape. I have mixed feelings about that.

Anyway, don’t stress about super detailed posts. Even a screenshot or a quick little update would be awesome, trust me! It’s fun to look in at people’s gaming. 🙂
