Updates and Goings-On

Part of my intent in reviving the site is to make it run more efficiently so that I can eliminate the expensive VPS bill each month. In doing this, I’m fiddling around with the forums in hopes that I can lessen the resource load once people start using it again.

I may end up chucking the forums altogether, but I’d like to try and get the community active again. We shall see. In the meantime, forum access will likely be spotty, but it has been that way for quite some time anyway. Upon checking them out today I noticed the forum was throwing back an error, and I’ve no idea how long that’s been going on. If you’ve tried to access the forums this year and have been denied, I do apologize. πŸ™

Macros Update

I updated the hunter macros page – most of which was a pruning of obsolete macros, but I made a few teensy edits. Nothing really noteworthy, but I’ll tell you a funny story that prompted the audit of my macros compendium…

Those of you who follow me on Facebook may have seen me mention a few weeks back that I looted an invitation to the Brawler’s Guild. Well, I ended up getting pretty into it and fought my way to rank 6 after about 2 weeks. During this time I adjusted my Bestial Wrath macro to include another trinket slot, along with the Brawler’s agility potion, so it looked like this:

#showtooltip Bestial Wrath
/use 13
/use 14
/use item:98061
/cast Bestial Wrath
/cast Rabid
/script UIErrorsFrame:Clear()

I had 2 on-use burst trinkets equipped, so I wanted to be sure the macro would utilize which ever one was not on cooldown when I went Big Red. This macro worked out great for the brawling, but later it resulted in a major /facepalm moment…

A friend of mine wanted to queue some arena matches with me. I haven’t arena’d in ages, so I jumped at the chance. He’s a really good player (Ret Paladin), so I figured we’d make a pretty formidable 2v2 burst team. We started out horribly and I kept wondering why I was getting stunlocked so often. I’d thought that either arena players had just gotten really pro, or perhaps Blizz decided to disallow PvP trinkets in arena, or maybe I was just really rusty, tired and off my game, or all of the above.

In nearly every match I’d set up to burst an opposing player down and then get immediately CC’d. I thought, what the hell is going on here..?! I can’t seem to do anything? I’d no sooner get free from my stun, only to find myself or my partner at like 20%.

After a few of these frustrating matches I started checking my PvP trinket to make sure it was on cooldown. I knew I’d missed a lot of changes in the game over the past year or so, but I figured PvP trinkets had to still be usable in arena…but why was mine not working?! I started thinking that the players we were facing had impeccable awareness and timing.

I was swapping glyphs, I changed a talent out, I was switching up pets…hoping to get some sort of competitive edge. Worst part is…this head-shaking went on for a few dozen matches.

Then I remembered how I edited my macro for the Brawler’s Guild.

Needless to say, once I fixed that we were on track. πŸ˜‰

That was perhaps the biggest facepalm moment during my tenure as a WoW hunter. I’ve been playing this game for 7.5 years and I’m still a total noob. I hope you enjoyed that little story. πŸ˜‰

What macros are you using?
