Most people get excited about epic gear drops, mount loot, rare companion pets, and while I like all of those things as well, I’m also really into kooky stuff like rare shirts.
When I first learned of the Sawbones Shirt I had to have it. Not only was it a unique shirt, but it also perfectly matched the color of my guild’s tabard which made it the must have WoW accessory for this fashion conscious NE hunter.
Sawbones Shirt was a very rare drop. I can’t recall exactly how rare, but I think it was less than 1%. I don’t know how many times I had soloed Scholomance to get this shirt, but it was a lot. Of course, if you want to be a unique little snowflake like me, then you’ve got to put in the work.
Another thing that made this a memorable experience for me was the atmosphere of old-school Scholomance. In my opinion, Scholo was one of the darkest places in Vanilla/TBC – especially the character of Doctor Theolen Krastinov. This place didn’t feel like any other instance to me – it was creepy. Running it time and again for the shirt drop was almost like playing the original Diablo. Well, not really…but it was about as close as WoW could get to Diablo.
Being that the Sawbones Shirt is no longer obtainable made acquiring it even that much more memorable.
I remember getting this way back in vanilla. It was the only shirt to match bloodfang red. I still have it along with my transmog bloodfang.
Scholomance was one of my favorite instances back in vanilla. I loved the whole atmosphere of it. I ran that thing so much trying to get the Ancient Bone Bow to drop that I probably could have done it blind folded.
