Last Call

New information has filtered in via one of my readers (thanks Newa) – – Tame Beast will be on a much shorter 10 second cast timer (down from 20 sec.) after Patch 4.0.1, thus canceling out the issue of fear vulnerability. So… carry on… nothing to see here. 😉

One of my long-time readers pointed out to me that come Tuesday (provided the patch goes live as planned), solo-taming King Krush and/or The Beast will be all but impossible.

Due to the new mechanics of The Beast Within, i.e., sans the immunity… hunters will be susceptible to fear when attempting to tame these beasts. Without the immunity, it’s going to be crazy-difficult to solo-tame either one.

If you’ve had the desire to tackle this challenge and grab either one of these beasties, then the time is now – Krush especially. It may not be too difficult to wrangle up a Priest and head off into UBRS for The Beast, but try getting someone to tag along with you in Sholazar Basin for hours on end while you look for Krush. If you’ve ever thought to tame the big green machine, then you better get to it.

Thank you Kazador for the heads-up on this. 🙂

  1. I got him last night at around 1230am! I was doing laundry and I happened to come back to my desk just in time for him to spawn just west of the glimmering pillar. I flew down and poped my speed potion, my trinket, and though I hit bloodlust too but it didn’t go off. Luckly after dismissing my corehound, Krush charged me but I manged to start my tame right after. Took about 5 seconds but man was I afraid he was going to fear me. Just when I thought he was about to, he shrinks down and defends his new master against an angry mammoth. I’ve been waiting for over a year to tame this big guy and it was vwell worth it. 🙂

  2. Solo tamed him today on Kilrogg. 1 try. Incredibly easy. 2 macros FTW:
Get a throwaway pet. I went with a local Rhino. Doesn’t really matter because you’ll be abandoning it almost immediately after engaging KK.

    #1
    /cast Bestial Wrath
    /script AbandonPet()

    #2
    /use Potion of Speed
    /cast Tame Beast

With 700 base haste plus the potion, my tame cast was less than 8 secs. Plenty of time to have BW up and avoid the fear. Plus, your armor doesn’t drop to zero anymore. I barely had a scratch and I also aggroed a Rhino at the the same time.

    • You know that BW doesn’t make you immune to his fear anymore. I guess you just got lucky and he didnt fear you while you were taming. 🙂 Good Job!

      • I noticed that too. I managed to get him today finally. Took 2 attempts after feigning to get rid of extra aggro 😛 BW didn’t do anything as he feared me anyway. Luckily it must have been on CD after that as he didn’t fear me again on the 2nd attempt.

  3. They are easier by far. I changed changed some of my gems to haste and had a haste elixir, 40 haste food, throw away core hound and potion of speed, I can get my tame to 4ish seconds.

And what’s sad is, after doing all that to get the beast, I let him go in favor of the Kurken. I just can’t handle the noise and it seems louder then before -_- Not to mention Beast is losing his “Boss” tag come cata. Good luck to the rest of you going for him!

  4. This actually isn’t true. In patch 4.0.1 they’re reducing the cast time of Tame Beast to 10 seconds so it is possible to tame The Beast and King Krush if they don’t cast their knockback/fear within the 10 second mark. It will actually be easier to tame them with haste.

    • guys there is a much easier way to do this (with King Krush at least) i was not able to do the beast within properly to get this done, so i recruited a priest healer to help me, he put the anti-fear w/e ability on me and continued to heal me while i did it. 6 failed attempts using beast within, 1 try using priest.

      • You’re correct, it is easier with a priest, but a lot of people like the challenge of going after him solo. I’m glad they are changing the timer up a little bit, although it won’t be as much of a thing of honor now that they are making it easier, but at least I know he’ll soon be in my stable :).

        • Agreeing with Drach… I once saw a hunter being helped by a pally, and dk. It took some time before the hunter was able to tame Krush. However, all I did was to look for a priest at Un’goro Crater when I was practice taming King Mosh (who is King Krush v1.0 :)).

And yes, the real challenge here is to solo tame King Krush (and The Beast… well, all pets for that matter). The feeling is indescribable when you know you got your pets all by yourself.

  5. Well Ibraha’s comment gave me hope after reading Gar’s warning of doom and gloom. My BM hunter rolls with SB4 and Nuramoc so I guess I’d have to dump Nuramoc but I reeeeeeeeeally don’t wanna do that. I guess I shall just hope for the best then. =)

  6. Ibraha, that’s a really interesting tidbit! So I guess substituting in a throwaway corehound to do Heroism, then abandon and tame might be the new way to go after Krush. Thanks for the idea!

  7. Actually according to Petopia, Krush will be easier to tame because of the already lower time to tame a beast(10 seconds) and being able to bloodlust with a core hound. I saw a screeny of a hunter taming him on the PTR under 3 seconds. Hope is not lost! 🙂

  8. well i decided to go get this guy after this article and talk about a tough tame…… it only took me 6 tries! i had to regem all my garbage pvp gear with haste and stamina gems and then after a couple more times i finally got him! i love tha fact he keeps the skull and the “boss” tag.

  9. Thanks for getting the word out Garwulf, and good luck to anyone who’s trying to get either of these two awesome pets before our window of opportunity ends!
