Long version:

I was sitting in SW after dinging 83 and as Spike and I were about to head to Uldum in our push to 85, my nephew logs on.  We party up and a bunch of blah-blah-blah later, I'm still in SW only now I'm bored.  So I thought to myself: “Self, why not fly up to the Sunwell and get one of those sweet blue dragonhawks?”  Seems like a kick-a$$ idea so off I go.

Now as anyone who's read any of my posts knows, I don't really raid much.  Like almost never.  Like I had never even BEEN in Sunwell before.  So I roll in as a freshly minted 83 and “HOLY HELL THERE'S TWO OF THE BLUE DRAGONHAWKS RIGHT THERE!!!”  (I know, I know….alot of you are saying “Well, duh!  There's ALWAYS been 2 of them right at the beginning.”  Please don't allow my n00bness to cause you to stop reading.)  There's just one pat robot and then each of the 'hawks has a group of 3 or 4 dudes by him.  This'll be cake.  I'll solo this pat first to show how tough I am and then just stand by all these dudes and tame the blue 'hawk while they beat on me cos I'm 83, I can take it.

Weeeeeeeelllll it didn't QUITE go so smooth.  =P

I pulled the pat bot who CRUSHED Spike and then forced me to FD.  I rez Spike and dismiss him.  Plan B.  Run just past the groups and FD.  Well hell, that nearly killed me.  I don't know that I'll survive the tame.  I could leave and get my core hound for AH.  Screw that…”AM I A HUNTER OR A PLADIN?!?!  I TAME HIM NOW!!”

I eat some haste food, target the 'hawk and back up as far as I can without pulling anyone else.  Pop the taming macro and it is on.  IT IS ON LIKE DONKEY KONG!  My cast bar and my health bar are RACING to see which one runs out first.  I'm trying to watch everything at once.  I die.  Quick check of the cast bar shows its gone.  I didn't see a sweet shower of gold sparks but the 'hawk's not there either.  I think i just pulled off a perfectly timed tame of the ghost buzzard!  =P

A quick graveyard run back to the portal shows that I do, in fact, now have a blue dragonhawk.  And he is sweet.  I hearth back to SW to show my nephew and, surprsingly, I get more comments asking about where I got him than I got for almost any of my other pets.  Wierd.

I named him Rorschach.  Dragonhawks kinda look like a colorful ink blot, don't they?  =P

Short version: 

Stack HP and haste and you should have no problem solo taming one.
