Just randomly wondering here…..with everyone's attention moving away from Northrend, do y'all think that finding and taming the spirit beasts will become easier??
Also I've noticed that alot of people on recommend using the NPCScan addon to help in finding the rares. Myself, I've been using Silverdragon plus Handynotes for years. How does NPCScan compare to it?

In my case, I've always been using _NPCScan so I can't compare it to the other npc-search-addons. One thing that I like is the alert sound. It never fails to give me a heart “attack.” 
Check it out… I'm curious to know your comments.

I tend to think (and hope) that once everyone moves back to the Old World for Cata that, although spawn times won't change, there will be fewer people actually trying to tame/kill the SBs/rarespawns. I'm hoping for that kind of luck with Krush, for sure.
As for your addon question: I, too, have only ever used NPCscan so I can't speak for how it compares. What I CAN tell you is that NPCscan Overlay is FRIGGIN AMAZING!!!!!! For those who are unfamiliar with it, like I was, it shades in areas of the map where rarespawns roam and then color codes them for each rarespawn. It makes figuring out your pathing SOOOOOOO much easier. I have no idea why they don't just roll it into NPCscan as I consider it indespensible.

I'm hoping and thinking a bit along the same lines as you are lawman (especially since I've yet to tame any of the SB).
hmm…maybe i'll have to try the npcscan. Is it on curse.com or do you have to go elsewhere to get it?

I though I heard that the original spirit (Skoll ect.)pets will be removed with the shattering!

no northrend was pretty much untouched with the shattering. The pets that were removed would be ones that were located in the barrens and locals like that.

Thats the funny thing about Skoll though.. he is most certainly not on npc scan anymore… I've cleared my cache numerous times and no little blue dots show up in Storm Peaks…. I've memorized where he spawns, but I love the thrill of hearing the alert and being all, omigosh, omigosh, omigosh, its here!!

I just caught the Arcturis yesterday after looking for about 5 min after I downloaded silver dragon. Then I headed north to get Gondria and he was some, but just as I landed somebody killed him =(

Ok, I've downloaded and tried npcscan with the overlays. I loved the patrol routes from overlays, but I hate the constant clearing of the cache needed with the actual scan. Silverdragon doesn't have that issue, plus silverdragon also has a full database of ALL rares in the game, not just the outland/northrend ones. Otherwise the 2 scans appear to be pretty simlar in the way they act and alert you to a rare being found.
Personally I would love to see an overlays type addition to the silverdragon database. That would be about perfect in my opinion.

Yea, the clearing of the cache does get annoying, but I also like not having the ones taking up overlay space that I've already found…if that makes sense. NPCScan is also cool because you can add your own specific mobs to find, I”m not sure if SilverDragon does that, like if you were hunting something that is not a rare, you could type in their npc# and hunt for that mob too.
I hear ya though, they need to come up with a better way to clear the cache or something.

Hmmm…it would appear that the npcscan overlay works without having npcscan installed. I reinstalled silverdragon and removed npcscan and left the overlay addon installed. Seems to be working for moment…..guess we'll see how long it lasts.

And yea I see what you're saying about adding in additional npcs to npcscan to track. I guess in that aspect we're talking about two different programs. Silverdragon is designed for the express purpose of tracking only rares. NpcScan can track any npc so long as you have the ID tag for it.
