Please bear with me on this.
Today I found out that a position I was seeking an appointment to was not going to happen. Fair enough, that's the way it goes for most people, right? I go home over lunch, log in to farm herbs on the DK i rolled on Icecrown to support my WHU baby hunter, but then decide “lemme just check the Basin for Krush/Aotona real quick”. I leave my main hunter logged out at the start of one of Krush's spawn areas (with my haste food buff always up) and whenever I log in, I fly my route searching for the mighty green dino or the elusive blue bird.
As I pass into the spawn area by the wasps, NPC scan goes off. For the 4th time in 2 years, it finds Krush. Only this time, unlike the previous three, its not a corpse. Mean Green is there, in the flesh, alive and kicking. HOLY HELL!!!! God is making it up to me! I land, pop my haste pot and start the tame.
Then the tauren druid lands.
He attacks Krush.
The King tries to fend him off with a fear, but as I start my tame again I get knocked back. The tauren and I are now locked in a duel. Will it be a tame or a kill? The tauren wins. My dino dies. As I stand over the corpse thinking about how the bar was about 1/5 of the way from being finished when the tauren first attacked, the tauren then comes over to laugh at me. Then he makes rude gestures at me. Then he spits on me. Then he flies away to keep farming his ore and herbs (I've seen this guy in the Basin all the time and its all he does…farm).
I must've stared at that screen with my eyes watering, but not crying, for 5 solid minutes. I've read about someone having their rare spawn killed while in the act of taming. I've seen it happen to a friend as she was taming Skoll. The feeling of having it happen to you is like nothing I've ever felt playing a game before.
I couldn't beg him to stop or offer him gold. He seemed to stop his attacks until my tame was nearly done and then blast Krush and break it. I SWEAR, Blizz should fix this by either taking away the achievements for killing the rare spawns or fix it so that if a hunter starts a tame, the beast can't be attacked by another person.
This was awful. My genuine sympathies to anyone who has had this happen to them or someone they know. I am still numb.

Hi Lawman,
Unlike any other class in the game, the Hunter is prone subject to tribulations that you just can't even describe until you experience it yourself. It doesnt matter if you are Night or Blood, Cow or Puntpuppy, if you are Hunter, you are subject to falling in love, and having it ripped from your strategized hands. It really sucks, and you can't explain it to the warrior who is laughing at you, or your own ally who's sucking gold from you, or to the healer that stands on while the mob is eating you alive, only to walk off with an easy kill and some high level loot.
I do think that it makes us better players, however. Not *once* have I seen another hunter walk away from a kill, screaming blasphemous insults, misshapen or misspelled. Every sing time, I have seen the hunter take the high road. Every. Single. Time. And yet, we still keep chasing the Blue by the gas cap, or the pretty bird in the trees, or suffering fears and great heights, all in the name of keeping that rare alive, and at our side.
Lawman, eventually, I promise you, your hunter's patience and skill WILL bring Krush to your side, and you will have a great story to tell, and we'll all be here to share it with you, slap you on the back, and cheer for you knowingly.
That Druid? He's going to kill himself into a corner with no friends, and he will have no one to laugh with, but himself.

Had that happening to me as well, saw Krush for 1'st time some month or two ago. Then SPLAT, some silly DK comes up and begins attacking him while I had him tagged(= . ='
, DK dies so I try again and he runs up again of course. And this time Krush dies. Was also staring at the screen 'til the corpse despawned.
“What have he done…?” /sob
So I suffer with you but you'll get him eventually ^^
Niika you should hold battlespeeches o o Sounds cheeky but it was really inspiring.

Unfortunately, even if Blizz did do away with the acheivements for killing rares, you would still get azzhats that would kill them just to be a prick. (Pardon my language, this is a sore spot in the game for me.)

This makes me sad. It really is a hunter thing. I'm on PvP server and there's even cross-faction respect for hunters looking to tame. I'm currently working with an Alliance hunter on finding the rares we need in Sholazar. We RealID friended each other so we could chat cross-faction and I helped him track down Loque after I got him.
Nothing this awful has happened to me, but I'm pretty confident that a lot of non-hunters, regardless of faction, would try to pull a stunt like this. No doubt. Everyone should roll a hunter and see how it feels. Last week I was about 10 seconds too late to getting to Aotona only to watch a fellow hunter tame him in front of my eyes. It hurt that it wasn't me, but I was happy to know that another hunter was able to tame him after his days-on-end search. Plus, one less person to compete against for the next spawn. 
Take a day or two and come back and try again. You'll get him, and when you do, it'll be all the sweeter.

That's what I did with another hunter I met looking for Skoll. We kept noticing that both of us were always around at the same time, so we talked and decided to team up and help each other tame. The first time he popped my friend was closer and got to him, which I was glad for him, and then the next night he came out and helped me, and I got my chance. I think there is also something to be said for Hunter comoradery as we see it here at the Lodge, we need to stick together because there is a world of jack wagons out there ruining it for the civilized Hunter.

hunters have suffered under the yoke of frustration for many years, and not just for rare tames.
If you played a hunter pre-bc you probably remember how frustrating it was to do the Rhok'delar quest with people running around the zone you were tryin to fight your demon in. I can very clearly remember it taking me days to finally kill a single demon just because someone was unaware that the demons despawn when they have any non-hunter on their threat table and they wanted to help me kill it. I can't tell you how many tears the 'helping hands' of others pulled from me, nor how many times I had to explain to someone why I was upset when they 'saved me' from the big bad demon. Worse were the times I literally battled someone for a demon spawn in pvp only to have their friends swoop in and kill me so I couldn't get it. And of course the times someone, usually of the opposite faction, attacked the demon just to keep you from getting your epic because they were jerks…
And originally the spawn times on those demons were 5 days or more. I got lucky and they changed the spawn timers to 24-48 hours when I was on the quest, later it got shortened even more. But even today with them on a timer of only a few hours the aggrevation caused when people interfere is incredible.
But all that frustration, plotting, scheming and weeping just made success that much more amazing and meaningful when I eventually attained it. Anyone that tells you 'it's just a pet' or brushes your effort off as the idle desires of a child or tells you it's not worth it has clearly never played a hunter and/or doesn't deserve to.
Keep at it! You'll succeed one day and when you do it'll all be worth it

fix it so that if a hunter starts a tame, the beast can't be attacked by another person.
I suggested this once on the forums at wow and the post disappeared the next day. o.O
Still think it's an excellent idea, especially for the rare spawns.
I've not had this happen to me….. yet… but I feel for you. Keep trying and you'll get him. =)

Call it karma, but a short while after the events I first wrote about here, I was wrongly booted for being afk in a BG while I ran to get the door (boy was I mad!) and it sent me back to the basin RIGHT ON TOP OF AOTONA! So I will keep at it and I know that one day, Big Green will obey me as his master! >=)

That is aweful!!! When I was searching for all the pets in the Basin, I had my eyes PEELED for sure! I also had some guildies come out and help me when I told them I had seen some allies flying around the area. There was also other Hunters around so I was extra nervous. I got lucky and was able to find and tame all 3 rares in that area. But I would have been so mad if that happened to me. I think I may have actually cried. I have been looking for Skoll for a bit now and a friend/Guildie yelled out in vent that they spotted him. Then 2 second later he said some priest came and killed him!!! I was like WTF! I was getting ready to go there. /sigh. I will find him eventually.
