Does anyone have a good understanding of the new stances? Sometimes my pets don't spawn when I dismount, sometimes they do. I think I've got that narrowed down when I'm on a taxi, and it dismounts me at the destination, my pet doesn't spawn. If I'm on my flying mount they seem to spawn ok.
The stances, it was my understanding Defensive they would attack anything that attacked me or it, for the most part that seems to be working. On assist I thought they would only attack what I attacked, but on my lock doing archy in low lvl zones, my pet will attack anything that attacks me or it. Last instance we ran, I used my assist focus, and couple of times my tank didn't have a target yet, but I noticed my pet was on another target without me hitting it. I've heard DK's saying their ghouls seem to do whatever they want when they want too.
Just curious if anyone else has seen anything odd.

I found that in an instance, or a battleground, if my pet were on assist it would often just stand beside me, and have an occasional scratch. It wasn't until I hit a macro key that had /petattack on it that it would do anything.
I've taken to leaving it on defensive.
However, in bgs, if on defensive, it won't attack anything that attacks me from stealth, until I actually use a macro with /petattack on it, it seems useless to me.
It looks like a classic case of fixing something that wasn't broken, and making it worse than it was.

I've noticed much of the same with the new stances, though Assist may have finally started working correctly, or maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention. I think Defensive now works as Bliz had originally inteneded it and until 4.2 it actually was "broken" based on their original plans.
I don't like the changes- if it's on Defensive and I'm in a raid or instance I'm losing dps during the time between me attacking the boss and then realizing my pet wont attack until I take damage. That's how I understand it to be working anyway.

The dismount etc I've experienced. Sometimes the pet is around sometimes not-fickle beasts
For soloing it's irritating per what Ozolin just wrote about the defensive stance. CC is a pain in the ass on trash and in some ways it's negated the effectiveness of misdirection which is a big deal for me. Typically it's MD, in goes pet, launch explosive trap, multi-shot and away we go. Now the fn pet comes happily wandering back to me with friends or stands around chewing gum. As Darrwyn mentioned, a /petattack macro with pet on passive seems a work around but you still have to tab everything AND tell the pet to attack. Much fun with a whack of mobs. Outdps commented on this as well.
I guess blizzard figures because hunters are so incredibly overpowered they needed to have them micro manage pets now that we don't have to feed em.
