Yeah, Sambas, that new tameable maned lion at Twilight Highlands. I lost him when I activated an abandon pet macro by mistake. You see, I still had that macro lying around in my main action bar and completely forgot it was there. At around 10:30PM, one finger slip: days of work went poof… It's unbelievable how seeing fading onscreen pixels could bring about cold sweat in seconds!
It felt like I was moving in controlled slow motion in the next few minutes: I filed a ticket explaining my predicament. I logged out and cleared my cache. I logged back in. I flew to Twilight Highlands. I made sure NPCScan was running well… and I began checking Sambas' spawn spots hoping that he'd be there. Nothing. One more lap. Still nothing.
I decided to hover near Victory Point because that's where I originally found Sambas. Around 11:04PM, I decided to do one last check. I headed off to Thundermar…
…and bam. NPCscan alert. Sambas! It felt like I was moving in fast forward in the next few minutes. I clicked the target box. Nothing. I flew down. Nothing. I looked around erratically down, left, right, even up! Still nothing. Was it a false alarm? Was it a pet? Was it dead? I flew in short bursts clicking the target button in the process… until there was a positive lock. Sambas was alive and he was right there under me. I flew down, hit the tame button, and success. It's unbelievable how hearing that successful tame sound could bring about cold sweat in seconds!

Never ever, have an abandon pet macro. There's really no reason why you should have it. Use the right click option instead or if you really need it in a macro, go with dismiss pet. What happened to me was a 30 minute mixture of bad and good luck. Here's wishing that you may have better sense to prevent this situation from happening to you. Of if it does happen, may you have much more luck than I had.

I'm not sure mine is still in my macros, gonna check though, that needs to be safely saved in a notebook file away from my WoW hunter.

Grats to getting him back. I have been working at home due to the Blizzard for the last 2 days and have had wow on for 14 hour periods in the background just hovering over twilight at all of his spawn points – nada. I even put the YoYo on Sambas patrol flying back and forth while I was on a couple of conference calls. >.<

Wishing you all the best! (Have to say that since I've gotten Sambas, I haven't seen any sign of him or any of the rare spawns in there.)

Grats Anj, and sorry for the problems you had loosing him. I did soemthing similar with Nuramoc and it took me weeks. I was so freaked out when the scan went off for the retame, I totally screwed up. Granted NO one is in Netherstorm any more, so I was only competing with my own addled mind.

@Abbynormal What's the Sambas situation? Grats if you've tamed him… otherwise, good luck still!
@Niika Thanks! It also seems there's a phasing problem at Twilight Highlands. There are reports of positive NPCScan detection but no mobs around. Could have been what happened to me when I initially couldn't see Sambas.

Anj, thank you for letting me know that. I have been trying hard to tame him without success. Scans keep going off, but I cna't see him. I even got to the point of being able to target him, and with my jc focusing lens, target dead air. thought I was seeing things.

When this happened to me, I landed, dismounted and walked around. That's when I saw Sambas in the distance. I guess the physical proximity somehow fixed the phasing.
Did you try taming the targeted “dead air?” … I remember something similar that was being done with the (then) phased beetles at Uldum — a Freezing Trap was launched to the probable location of the beetle. Once trapped, the beetle became visible and trainable. Blizz has since fixed that phasing bug.
I'll see if I can file a ticket to get some answers.
