One thing I never really figured I'd get is this wonderful flying lizard which I consider the rarest of the rares for a mount. Plus I figured if I ever did see it I'd spaz out, shoot myself in the foot whilst plummeting to my death. So, this 2nd day of January in the year of our Lord 2011 at 5:35 PM MST while wandering petless and aimlessly in search of Skoll, npc scan blares out the big Liz. First off, that is a great add-on but it still scares the crap outta me when it goes off. The big Lizzy is comin straight at me down Bors Breath @ 30.30-65.26. Of course I don't disappoint myself-I panic.
I must admit I had thought 'what if' I ran into him, going over in my mind how I'd take him, nerves of steel, calmly slurping the snowfall lager and letting loose on him as I gracefully wafted safely to the ground, him dead on arrival and I stroll cooly up to his corpse and grab those beautiful reins.
Now as an aside, few days back at my request, Gar kindly emailed me some info and I've been practicing using all keybinds and mouse for movement entirely (see newb). Was getting pretty good at it-have a few keybinds done, mouse moving is in sync and when I see ol Proto, all of that is gone from my head in a flash. I'm frantically pounding the 'W' key trying to figure out why I am NOT moving. Right, pet attack bind. Thanks Gar 
So I gather my wits, all two olf them and fling the trusty gryphon straight at the LIz who promptly spits at me while I'm clicking every fn bag looking for that damn beer and he knocks me outta the saddle. Find it! Swig, uh nope, under attack. Oh man I'm falling…I'm gonna DIE.
This is where some may call the major suck out happens. I prefer to think of it as my hard learned 'Elite Hunter Skillz' coming into play……I land in a tree! Oh what a lovely branch-I even took a screenshot of it afterwards. How far down is terra firma? I dunno but I figure I'm pretty much screwed at this point anyhow so I pop off some kinda shot and jump backwards. Take 10k damage in the fall, not too bad.
Being a Lizard, the Drake doesn't know how lucky he just got and that he's just managed to escape certain death-thanks to that tree I planned landing in so he follows me down, Gawd what a NEWB! Now all of Gar's pointers are in play-yup, forgot pretty much all of them and fell right back into my old ways, cept of course all my old ways are, well, kinda gone. No matter, I'm a hunter. With a dazzling display of jumping backwards, 'target too close' info , crying and key mashing the Time-Lost Proto Drake falls to my hunting prowess.
Okay, it was probably the ugliest unskilled moment in huntering since WoW was introduced but I got me a ginormous flying lizard mount. He is so cool.
Not knowing you aren't supposed to be able to achieve something often ensures that you will. Book of Agio 22:2
