No you should not be Ashamed. If it makes you feel any better, one thing I left out on my post was after the 5 death I whispered a random priest and offered him 1k gold to heal me while I tamed him. I would have gladly paid it too only the priest never responded. The only reason I did it myself is because I had too. I was worried that anyone else I whispered by the time they got there someone else would have nabbed or killed Terrorpene, but if help was available I woulda gladly accepted it.

As an aside: I'm really starting to be bummed out by the number of hunters who take the attitude, in game or out, that a tame is not special if it is one widely available. To hell with that! Every single pet in my stable is there because I WANT it there. Not because I feel like a special little snowflake for having it. Stay true to yourselves people!
@malza No need to be ashamed! Any tame is a good tame… it's yours and you should be proud of your accomplishment.
@lawman30 Yeah, I hate those hunters too — one of the major reasons why I'm posting here at the Lodge than in other pet discussion sites. Just PM me though if I seem to be heading towards the dark side.
