I went back to the Blasted Lands to try look for Grunter (gave him up a few weeks ago) — when I bumped into a yellow sparkly Carrion Bird flying among the black ones:

The yellow sparklies turned out to be an appearance buff that of course, disappeared upon taming.
Note: Spiteflayer used to look like a regular black vulture!
