Can someone break it down for me why a Marksman hunter should glyph Serpent Sting?  My chimera shot refreshes it continually (i'm religious about getting Chimera into rotation)

I am really feeling heat logged and need a Simple Stupid explanation of how it helps Chimera, if Chimera constantly has SS refreshed.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it.

The way I understand it, and I could be wrong, but the damage Chimera-Serpent Sting does is determined by the damage Serpent Sting will be doing when you apply it on your target. SO, if you have the Serpent Sting glyph, which extends the time it stays on a target, it means your Chimera-Serpent Sting will be doing more damage.

The Glyph of Serpent Sting adds 6 extra seconds to your sting, which translates to 2 additional ticks. When you have it glyphed, Chimera Shot instantly releases the damage from a 21 sec duration sting as opposed to a 15. So, Chimera releases an instant 40% damage from 7 ticks as opposed to only 5.

I'm a bit pressed for time, so hopefully that brief explanantion makes sense. I'll come back and edit it if not.

Also, I'm thinking Drackmire might be all over this one. He could explain it thoroughly.

I guess what I mean is isn't that the point of Chimera, to refresh your sting so that it is always up?  Why would it matter from 15 seconds to 21 seconds if you keep your Chimera off cooldown?

I thank you so much for letting me make make what sounds like a horrifically stupid question.

This is true, but the other effect of Chimera Shot is to instantly deal 40% of the damage from your current sting.

From the Chimera Shot tooltip:

Serpent Sting – Instantly deals 40% of the damage done by your Serpent Sting.

Let's say for example your SS ticks for 1K ea. (arbitrary figures here)

Unglyphed Serpent Sting has 5 ticks at 1k ea. = 5K damage. Chimera Shot will instantly do 2K damage (40% of 5K) when it hits.

With the glyph, your SS will have 7 ticks at 1k ea. = 7K damage. Chimera will instantly do 2.8K damage (40% of 7K) when it hits.

The Serpent Sting charge that's released at the end is based upon the total damage of the full duration of your Serpent Sting. Throw in the T9 set bonus and you have a critting Serpent Sting charge release. Yet another reason why this glyph is so important.
