I figure there may be a simple explanation for this but damned if I can find it. Over the past few weeks I’ve started to pay closer attention to Recount during solo Heroic Boss fights (may both God and Bob forgive me) What I’ve noticed is insane average DPS swings. I’ll go from 14kish as a high to as low as 8k on a boss. Once I discovered this of course I figured I was doing something wrong and have sadly become obsessed with trying to figure out what and or why.
For consistency testing I’ve been running Utgarde Pinnacle (want the mount) Gundrak as it’s near by and occasionally CoS.
I'm BM and I’m using my Wolf Spirit Beast, buffs are flask of the Winds, skewered eel, Drums of FK.
Lead is always the same. SS, BW macro procs my crappy lil demon panther trinket, Rabid then it’s KC, ARC x 3, KC, ARC x 2-3, pop Rapid Fire-commence Cobras, then the usual, KC, Arcs. Not only are the spreads huge they are inconsistent as per the bosses. By that I mean Boss so n so in Utgarde =X one time, X the next and vice versa for other dungeons. I'm probably not optimizing my cooldowns perfectly all the time but if any of you have experienced the same, please enlighten me if you can. These aren’t target dummies, I’ve noticed they hit back.

It's movement, and could be likely, auto-shot. Your Recount will give you a pretty good idea. If you scroll over your stats, you will see a breakdown in percentage of where your damage will come from. It tells you exactly what is creating your dps, and damage, both the shots that go into it and how great of a percentage of each you are using. Once you get comfortable with what that is showing you, it's a quick leap to optimizing what to change, be it movement or shot rotation or cooldowns. Pie charts and graphs galore, too, but hey, we'll start slow.

Heya Niika-long time no type. RL does that at times. Thanks for the input. I was speaking to Gar the other day about something entirely unrelated and of course managed to weasel in this question. He figures, given that typically any of the fights I do are so short and require much movement due to my lameness that it would be hard to really get an accurate figure. Plus as you said, I'm probably ganked in the AS department-tis way low. I do at times get a little frisky mashing buttons though. I have done as you say and the vast majority of my punch is Arcane excluding KC. Kind of validates Gars point.
20k? Pulllease, that'll never happen. Though I hate to say it, to some extent that is gear related, sounds so wussy. Coupled with my natural ineptitide though, it's an issue.
I took a look at worldoflogs-looks a great deal like work n raid related. Overall, I prefer the 'They're all Dead I'm Not' add-on I currently use.
P.S. I should always be in “Aspect of the Cheetah” right?
