Hi guys , im looking for my PVP pet.
My goal : i want to root and make the best dps …
Im SV so i have 3 choices :
1 – Crab Pin: 4 sec root.
2 – Dog Lock Jaw: 4-sec root.
3 – Spider Web: 5-sec root.
Usually, tank pet dont do a lot of DPS … So i think i can remove the Crab.
Now Dog or Spider ?
I know that Spider have a 1 sec more Root but if the Dog do more damage, the dog will be better, i think.
Anyone know what is the DPS difference on Ferocity VS Cunning ??
Thx for for opinion and sorry for my english cause im not leet in this language

OfflineI've heard it said on EJ that for SV, Cunning is actually better DPS. Granted, this was a few months ago and probably prior to 4.0.6. I've not seen whether that was updated information or not BUT in my own experiements just last night, my DPS was significantly higher using a Ferocity pet v. a Cunning pet. I don't have any math or numbers to provide proof, just what I saw on the meters. Same fight, same rotation, Ferocity was a bigger increase than Cunning.

I wonder why would you ever need “root” in PVE?
It is a big sacrifice, not to have Roar of Courage (cat) or Furious Howl (wolf) – which ever buff isn't present in grp, in terms of dps.
If you need root so bad Glyph of Freezing Trap might be an alternative (I now it's slow, not root)
And please keep in mind that, such abilities will cause your pet to become an agro ball and implode sooner than you realize, in PVE. Either you'll end up with lacking pet damage and buffs which is not effecting only you but the whole group in a negative way through the rest of the encounter, or assuming you are low on agro and can stand still without any interrupt for 12-15 seconds, you'll be busy with reviving and mending your pet and loose a serious dps uptime.

All missunderstood then.. due to your reference to a raid observation on your second post..
I believe, 1+ second root and Bullheaded would make a difference rather than the tiny dps increase..

I think that if you do a decent MM spec you should be free to ignore the need for a root pet. With entrapment, Concussive Barrage plus your scatter you should be able to control most situations leaving you free to bring a cat for the agility buff. I just started Arena and BG again and it's working well for me

OfflineI would go with spider in my opinion. You get a 5 sec root and the cooldown is only 40 secs compared to the 1 min cooldown of the other roots. That first root is extremly nice in arena as it gives you a chance to open up with Aimed Shot and still have enough time for a Chimera Shot and a Concussive Shot and then proceed to kite or you force them to blow a defensive/trinket cooldown right at the beginning which is also nice. The biggest plus to me with the spider is <a href="http://www.wowhead.com/spell=534
” target=”_blank”>Roar of Sacrifice which is crit immunity for 12 secs(sweet!!!). I haven't been doing arena for too long but what I've experienced is that if you force them on the defensive first, you usually win and the spider helps a lot with that first 5sec root. Cat/Wolf is nice but it seems like the CC is way better than the extra bit of dps the ferocity pet brings. But that's just me 🙂

OfflineYou might find a ferocity pet is too squishy in PvP, or you'll need to spend talent points in building up stamina and armor at the cos of dps choices. I agree they hit harder, and you'll be more potent… for a time.
Cunning pets move very quickly, whether a spider, a bird of prey, a bat etc. They have a bit more substance too, so you don't need to revive as often as with a ferocity pet. Spider's cover the ground very quickly, and if you control the web cast, you can use it when you want it. Bats have a 2 second stun available every 40 seconds, and I find it useful, especially in flag bgs. My other favourite is a bird of prey, who can disarm your target for 10 seconds, which while not keeping them in one spot, does wonders for your health. A spider is a good all-round pvp pet though.
Tenacity pets are a viable choice in bgs because they are tough. Crabs have a root as you've mentioned, and although lower dps than a ferocity pet, they have more longevity. I prefer the bat or spider becuase they don't have to close to melee range to use their ability. As Gar says, a tenacity pet will always do more damage than a dead ferocity pet! DPS is not as important as survivability in PvP in my opinion.
Cheers,

To add to Darrwyn’s post…
As long as I can keep tabs over when my Spider or Crab uses certain abilities, I am maximizing its full potential. I used to just have their respective Roots on autocast; bad idea. Usually you’ll want them macro’ed so you can throw them out whenever you need them.
A Crab (being Tenacity) also has extra utility with Roar of Sacrifice and Intervene to help keep you alive, with RoS preferably macro’ed so you can hit it whenever some pesky ‘Lock gets a bead on you and starts dropping DoTs like a kid with a torn bag of M&M’s. Charge also provides a wonderful interrupt that gives you at least a second-long window to get into position. A Spider with Bullheaded can prove to be a boon when you find your pet being rooted or feared.
That being said, since I run BM I find the Scorpid and Bird of Prey to be my best friends in BGs. That 10-second Disarm is just too good to pass up against Hunters, Rogues, Warriors and Pallys, plus the Scorpid’s Charge interrupt helps me gain ground when I’m being whacked, and the bird’s Dive allows me to chase down flag runners or put the hurt on an incoming caster long before they’ve reached me (a hefty critical on Kill Command ain’t so bad either
).
However, as BM, my guess is that if I were to choose a Root pet, it would be the Dog for DPS.
If a Tauren Hunter and a Tauren Druid marry and have children, you will end up with BraveStarr and Thirty-Thirty.
