I don't get in to PVP as much as I used to, but every once in a while I still get the urge to go into a battle ground or consider doing arena. When I do, I usually surf the arena junkies forum. From there I usually look at the top rated teams that have hunters on them and usually you can get an armory link off that. One such hunter that I have tabbed to usually refer to is a hunter named Speedfire from his page you should be able to get a good look at his talent spec, gear set up, and pet spec.
Also, what I gather from a lot of posts on here is that Garwulf does a lot of PVP, so you should definitely pick his brain. For your macro pleasure, Garwulf has a guide posted here. The PVP ones are about a quarter of the way down the page. One of my personal favorites for PVP is the wing clip + disengage macro...

I think if you're comfortable playing MM it would be great for both. I personally prefer a spec that includes scatter shot, both for BG's and arena. I think judging by both of his specs that he probably uses the BM spec for PVE. Although, he does have the glyph of disengage on his BM spec and I could see how having a core hound and intimidation would be nice against casters. But I feel there are some other PVP related talents that are important in the BM tree that he didn't take. That being said, he may use his BM spec for BG's and his MM spec for arena...
For BM PvP, my spec is ideal: https://huntsmanslodge.com/556.....-redux.htm
My favorite pets with this spec: Core Hound (arena), Chimaera, Silithid or Worm.
This build provides a lot of survivability and mobility. Absolutely a blast for BGs.
For MM PvP, I'd recommend something like this: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#.....hbo:0kfMzV
Good pets to use as a MM include: Spider, Serpent, Ravager or Crab (if you want Intervene).
For SV, I'd suggest reading the two posts I'd made, starting with this one: https://huntsmanslodge.com/400.....rt-one.htm
Good pets for SV are: Spider, Ravager or Crab.
BM is a good all-around choice for PvP. It is the least complicated spec to play, plus it has good survivability and is less susceptible to CC. It is also one of the strongest 1v1 class builds in the game.
MM is the most powerful PvP build right now. This is mainly due to Readiness and Silencing Shot. The spec puts out amazing damage, yet also has good survivability due to the double-Deterrence capability. MM is the best spec for use against casters.
SV is nice, especially vs plate due to the non-armor-mitigated nature damage. The burst is good, plus the spec has some nice control and utility. Managing Lock and Loads properly is a key component to this spec, which makes it a little more complicated than say MM or BM (in my opinion).
In the hands of a skilled hunter, MM is the most powerful build. Personally, I prefer MM for most PvP these days, but I spec BM mainly because it works better for me in arena (I play with another DPS). BM is the most "slippery" of specs, so if you find you're having problems with being locked down by other classes, then you should give it a try.
As far as gemming and enchants go... BM can go AP or Agility. AP provides more DPS for your pet, but I like the added crit from agility myself. BM absolutely needs crits in order to do any sort of damage. For MM and SV, I'd go with agility all the way.
For more info on gemming and enchants, see my gemming and enchants guides.
Your post gives me an idea... I think I may have to put together a PvP starter kit.
Until then, feel free to respond with any further questions.
You should have at least 5% hit. If you're Horde I'd suggest maybe going 6-7% just because of the amount of night elves you'll face, but generally 5% is adequate.
With an Ele Shammy I'd suggest going BM. With Heroism/Bloodlust + BW, you'll have a a good shot at burning someone down within 20-30 secs or less. Double DPS is all about synchronized burst and lasting long enough to make it a 2v1.
I like BM Hunter for this combo.
Hex/Trap/Intimidation the healer and nuke the DPS. This could be a fun combo.
I'd use a Core Hound for this comp.
As BM, I'd gem for AP (or agility), Hit (if needed), Crit and Stamina.
All red sockets shoudl be pure AP (or agility if you lack crit). Yellow sockets should be gemmed with AP/Crit or AP/Hit. Purple sockets I'd go with AP/Stamina.
BM doesn't need Spell Penetration. While it can help a little with pet specials and Arcane Shot, it's not really worth the trade-off of the extra stamina and attack power. SV and MM hunters have a lot more to lose by not gemming spell pen – BM not so much.
As far as macros go… I suggest looking over my macros page.
There are a lot of useful ones listed there.
Here's one every PvP BM Hunter should have though:
#showtooltip Bestial Wrath
/cancelaura Hand of Protection
/cast Bestial Wrath
/cast Kill Command
/cast Call of the Wild
Add a /use 13 or /use 14 if you have an on-use trinket like Platinum Discs of Battle. Also, make sure to take Call of the Wild off of auto-cast. This macro basically allows you to squeeze out every ounce of burst possible when you enrage.
