Heya Folks.

I have been a PVE BM Hunter since early BC and am just now entering the world of Pvp. I rerolled a new Hunter “Auntie” and have been leveling via the xp in Bgs. I am really loving the teamwork (when it happens).

I cant keep my gear up to date due to leveling so fast in WSG lately. My spec gives me Aimed shot and scatter shot because those seem to wreck havoc on flag carriers. I just 'winged' the spec – any advice on it would be great.

http://www.wowarmory.com/chara…..;cn=Auntie

I use the 2hander as a weapon thinking that when I do go in to melee I want to end it quick and as SV i have the HP to last a second or two. Again any advice or thoughts would be great.

For running down flag carriers I have had alot of success swooping in on my mount and landing a scattershot.  Once someone else breaks the daze I Aimed shot, concussion shot, wingclip and by that time hopefullly my teammates have arrived. Even when they are traveling in a large posse I usually slow the FC down enough before I die to really cause them problems.

I'd love to hear some bg tactics from you more experienced folks. what you do in certain situations, how to handle warlocks.. /grrrrr, etc.

Cheers.

Hey Auntie.

I'm kind of new to the BG myself since I've been a 110% pve geek.. But now it's getting a little boring run around and use the same cycle over and over and over and over and… you get my point icon_wink

So I started running around in BG's and I think that is really fun. Especially now when you can get free Furious set thru the embnlems/ honor system.

Two things I really hate playing as a hunter in BG's are Close Quarter Combat (melee range, 'CQC&#039icon_wink and ofcourse the warlocks.

CQC can be really fun if you don't have traps, disengage or deterrence on cooldowns.. If you do, well.. Good luck if you don't have a nice healer focusing on you.

I love “kiting” with my hunter, concussive shot run around ice trap etc. About 95% of all the CQC combats will result in “Hunter 1 – Melee 0” for me, and that is because I try to save all my CD's for the dangerous situations.

Anyhow, to try to help you out I'll give you some tips for BG's.

The most important is to always keep as good distance as possible. To help you keep distance get a spider or a crawler as pet. They can web/pin other players so they can't move for 4 seconds. And in 4 seconds you will be able to get out of their range. Do not stand still to much, there can be a rogue sneaking behind you.

If you decide that u need to stand still you might want to use freezing trap and/or Flare. Traps, you have to love them in BG's, especially freezing arrow and ice trap.

Viper Sting is pretty good to use on the other teams healers, and ofcourse Black Arrow (pretty useless on clothies, they take shit loads of damage anyway).

One thing that I learned pretty fast in BG's was that LoS (Line of Sight) tactics are very usefull. Take Arathi Basin as an example, run around a house and shoot at people, use traps and try to stand out of their line of sight. You have instant shots, remember that.

I don't use scatter shot myself, since I use the same spec for raiding as in BG's, but I do use Wyvern Sting when I need to put a healer to sleep or something like that.

And use Feign Death if u see a mage cast Polymorph of soemthing like that, opr any other spell that you wouldn't like to be hitted by.

Hopefully this was helpfull in some way icon_smile To tired to write a “guide” about hunters in BG's. So now I'm off to sleep icon_razz

Cheers

thank you for your tips! As a hunter who loves BG it's always interesting to see what tactics other Hunters use.  I switched over to SV from MM the other week to see what differences it made.  Although at first I was topping the DPS and seemed to be staying alive longer it's now lvled out. Perhaps because I am about 10 lvls higher?

So this week I switched to BM to see how that would effect BG.  Was curious about elite pets and some other traits.

I used to use a shadowmeld cat and keep him near the flag because when he attacks in shadowmeld he gets a bonus.  I find I do better on Defense or defending the flag carrier.  I also make sure to try and play around other people.  Sometimes, when the teamwork isn't there as a whole it's easier to to buddy up and I am less likely to get nuked by a rogue.  I also always make sure my track humanoids is on and that I have bandages in a keybind slot.

Just tamed a chimaera last night and am really loving the frostorm breath.

Sorry this is more stream of conciousness but I hope it helps someone else out there.

I haven't pvp'd on my hunter in a very long time, but lately I find myself aching to get back into it.   Everyone plays differently and has their own style, which is why pvp can be unique and enjoyable for the average player.  For us Hunters,  the best tools of defense are our over looked abilities. Every time I enter a battle ground I see many Hunters not applying some of those basic elements. Abilities such as our traps. Before your enemy comes in range, it is always safe to throw down (if not all) your Traps. As it can create a chain reaction of damage. Give yourself enough distance between your traps and your enemy while they fall in the line of fire. This also allows the ability to “kite” if you cross that bridge.

It's not a bad idea to keep health potions on hand or max out your first aid incase you get yourself stuck in a bad situation. It is always important (to try) to get the first hit in on an enemy or come in on a surprise attack. Sometimes getting that first shot in with an explosive amount of damage can literally make the difference against who's got more hp. Always consider the ability of crowd control, keeping your opponent ice blocked (Freezing Trap), Scatter Shot, Wyvern Sting, and even Silencing Shot to disrupt spell casting or healers.

Wing Clip is sometimes over looked. I have found it quite effective to hit Wing Clip on melee targets and throw down Frost Trap to give the availability of space. Tranquilizing shot is another one. It attempts to remove 1 Enrage and 1 Magic effect from an enemy target. You can easily disengage a Priest's Power Word Sheild, Ice Blocks, or even HOTS.

Other abilities to keep in mind are Disengage and Deterrence. I can't tell you how many times those abilities have saved my butt on the battle field. A fun and creative ability (if you get the chance to pull it off without getting killed) is Scare Beast. On some occasions when I feel like getting a little risky or silly in pvp- I''ll throw out Scare Beast on a feral druid.  They usually never see it coming- because honestly- how many hunters do you see using that ability? I know I'm not hitting all areas , but these are some things to consider when your out on the battle field.

Auntie:

I will just say this right now.  MM is the best way to deal with Locks.  Straight up.  You will find no better way to own a lock than to throw down Silencing Shot (a MM ability), Aimed Shot (also MM), Arcane Shot, Concussive Shot, Aimed, etc.  I know that you like Surv, though, becuase most Surv hunters I've found love it to death.  So let me give you a little walk through how to take care of those locks in Surv.

  1. You need to take care of their minion. Whether it be a succubus (they will stun you continuously with their special ability if the lock's smart), a VW, or whatever, you need to frost trap that sucker and let it stay there while you deal with the lock.
  2. Without a buffed up Silencing Shot, it's all about burst damage, and lots of it.  You need to lay down whatever abilities you can in a small amout of time to interrupt their casting speed.  (Once again, if MM, you can avoid their nasty DoT's with SS).  To tell you the truth, there is no way to kill their DoT without SS, so you need to be packing some health potions.  Sadly, that's just the reality of it.
  3. GET ON THEIR BACK!!! Try to move behind the lock, by strafing, if you can keep them occupied with your pet, other players, or freeze them temporarily with a good freezing shot while you move behind them.  A lock's DoT's and nukes are what they ride on, so if you take those away, you can kill them easy.
  4. Hope for the best.  Until icon_eek, locks will be hard for a hunter. Personally, I don't think locks are too hard to deal with, you just need to know your game and GET ON THEIR BACK!!!

Obviously, I can't give you all the different info on killing individual classes in this post, but if you check out mah blog Aspect of the Chameleon, I'll be putting up PvP guides once I get it off the ground fully, and it provides general hunter interest.  I'll be posting individual class killing tips one at a time, so check by every once in a while.  Happy Hunting!

Huu.

Auntie,

Sorry I'm late coming to the party here. :-

I had a look at your armory and here are my suggestions…

By going with this semi-hybrid build, you're sacrificing having a more powerful specialized build. At your level, I recommend MM hands-down. It is an incredibly powerful spec in the 40s, 50s, 60s… well pretty much any bracket.

Try this build, along with the two glyphs in there: http://www.wowhead.com/talent#…..hhsgz:0hZM

I noticed that you have the BoA gun, which means this spec will really have you nuking people.

With this build, you're going to gain Silencing Shot, which is a huge advantage for PvP – not to mention Readiness. If it's locks you are worried about, fear not. Silencing Shot > Aimed Shot > Arcane Shot > Readiness > Silencing Shot > Arcane Shot > Aimed (if needed) = good night. No Lock leveling through BGs will be able to handle that serving.

At level 60, pick up Chimera Shot by way of 2/3 Wild Quiver (2/5 Efficiency would be a decent choice as well) and 5/5 Marked for Death, then just start making your way down the SV tree. 2/5 Improved Tracking, 3/3 Hawk Eye, 3/3 Entrapment, 2/2 Survival Instincts, on down to Scatter Shot. For your last 9 points, you can either go for enhanced trap effects and added survivability from the SV tree, or buff your damage and reduce mana costs by dipping into MM.

You guys Rock. Thanks so much for the tips. Ill keep plugging away and try MM and the spec garwulf mentioned. I like the discussion. For me its al about finding my “go to” moves and getting comfortable with them. I am still a noob in a lot of ways even tho I started back towards the end of BC. I'm still using the standard Ui for instance. Embarassed

Thanks again.

Anyway. I must say I love opening with silencing shot against casters. I have gotten the drop on a few recently and came out on top with opponents 4 and 5 levels higher. Sweetness. Thanks Huugg and Garwulf

I do miss scatter shot tho. instantly causing anyone I choose to run in circles aimlessly on command is a nice feeling.

Its clear to me that this MM build I have now  is superior dps wise. The scatter shot build was great at stopping an FC .. but that use is limited to say the least.

Thanks again for all the help folks

You'll get Scatter Shot back once you get into your 70s. In the meantime, don't forget to use Wing Clip to slow those pesky flag carriers. Disengage to them if they're too far ahead and be sure to drop a Frost Trap on them as well.

The added burst, healing debuff and silence that MM provides is just tough to beat in this bracket. Scatter Shot is definitely nice, but the upside to MM is too great to pass on.
