How yall doin? First off long time reader of the site, first time poster here tho.  Just came back from a 6month or so break from WoW and all im really doin is pvp.  As the title says looking for advice on my spec/enchants/gems ect. and with your advice i would really appreciate it if gave your reasons for said suggestion. My main question is what kind of stat levels i should be aiming for in pvp. Ive seen and talked to alot of differnt hunters in game and each hunter gives a different answer on what the priority should be or what precentages to hit ect.  and most give the reason that this is what some other hunter told them ingame when they asked.

Currently sitting at 2.92% haste,  5.20% hit,  20.35% crit,  10.30 mastery,  3970resil,  120spell pen.  Numbers going off armory.

   Thank You for your time

Hi Kiil,

Firstly, welcome to the Lodge, even if you have been a reader for a while. Now you are a contributor! Way to go, you!

There are a lot more experienced PvPers out there than me, and I'm sure they'll contribute as well. But having said that, it's all I do, and I have 3 hunters in various stages of levelling. As for what I am shooting for… (yeah, yeah, pun intended!)…

I'll only talk about Predatoor, my 85, Beastmaster…

Hit                         You need 5% hit to hit your target every time. Less you have a chance of missing, more you're

wasting stats. Get as low as you can over 5% and you'll be right.

Stamina                  Currently sitting a tad under 140K unbuffed. I can take a hit or two, and therefore can hit back

                              some too…

Resilience               Currently at a little over 3900, I have yet to sport a 371 level range weapon. You see a lot of LFM

posts wanting 4000+ for arena teams… and when you earn Conquest Points you can do this…

Agility                    Not sure what the rating is, but of course I only equip Agility Gear. I gem for agility in red

sockets, and combine resilience and stamina in blue sockets and crit and resilience in yellow sockets

(I think). On PVP gear, the socket bonus is usually resilience so it's worth getting, IMO.

Critical Strike Rating My guy sits around 18.95% at the moment. Naturally, the higher you can get this the better.

Mastery                  Mastery has different importance across the specs, but it's usually around here in priority. I don't

worry too much about it to tell the truth.

Haste                     Mine is under 5% but over 4%. Haste helps focus regeneration so boost it if you can, but not at the                              expense of higher priorty stats

That's as technical as I get. The easy answer is to get EVERYTHING as high as you can. The more you PVP, the more honor and conquest points you will earn, and the better the gear you can get will be.

I'm sure others will not agree with my stacking stamina over agility, but I have trinkets and abilities that increase attack power and agility, but not health, and I hate being one shotted, by anyone! To be honest, I've never really developed a healthy amount of defensive ability ( defend like an orc… by attacking!), so I compensate with high stamina and keep plugging away. If you can stay at range better than I can, try gemming for agility rather than stamina. When it all boils down, its how YOU like to play that is the important factor.

There's my two cents worth and it's probably not worth that! But there it is.

Cheers,

D

Hey thanks for the reply and also for your reasons as too why you gem/enchant ect. the way you do.  For my yellow sockets im currently gemming 20agil 20resil, i considered the 20agil 20crit since even with losing the 60resil from switching gems id only drop to 3928resil.

As for blue sockets other then couple spellpen gems im using a 20agil 30stam and a 20resil 30stam, and to be honest im not sure im happy with those choices. I feel as if i should change them to being both one or the other. Instead of one of each gem. I havent really searched to hard but i didnt really see anything that really jumped out at me for being the best choice either.(for blue socket)

What do you feel in your opinion(hard facts/personal playstyle) is a better boot enchant? Im currently using 35agil but ive noticed more and more hunters are using Assassin's Step for the slight movement speed increase.  It seems like a pretty good choice since your only sacrificing 10agil for the movement increase, but not sure if i will switch current enchant till i get the ruthless boots.

Also how do yall feel about Improved Serpent Sting? Current build im using i picked up from a friend, and he specs into, personally i havent really noticed a difference.  Then again i mainly use Serpent Sting to keep stealths in check/ keep a dot on a fleeing enemy/ or just to try and make the enemy waste mana or whatever on dispel.

Hi Kiil,

Also how do yall feel about Improved Serpent Sting?

Personally, I like ISS, though I'm not specced into it at the moment. I like how it hits harder and hurts more so that is a bonus. I'm currently using the sec that Garwulf suggested for BM Hunters… he's been playing far longer than I have. I'm about to respec a couple of my Hunters as an experiment and I'm pretty sure ISS will be in there.

What do you feel in your opinion(hard facts/personal playstyle) is a better boot enchant?

I can't remember what I've currently got but it will be either stamina or agility. I don't worry about a slight speed increase. If I want a speed burst for evasion or chasing I drink a Swiftness Potion.

 i considered the 20agil 20crit

I never gem for crit or haste or mastery unless it's my only choice to get the socket bonus I want, or it's all I can afford at the time and even then I'll usually take the second best agility or stamina option. Unless that 20 crit (or haste) would put you over a soft cap, I wouldn't bother with it.

The thing is, in PvP it's more about what you want than in PvE. I guess a RBG leader could be allowed some input, but don't ever let anyone tell you you're wrong. I've invited more than a few people to pay my subs for me and I'll do what they want… they never take me up though.

Cheers,

D

Hey Darr,

I never gem for crit or haste or mastery

Yea i know it all boils down to how you want to play/do things, but i like to hear about other peoples choices/thoughts(hard proven facts are still good).  The main reason i feel like it would be more beneficial is the fact that im almost at 4k resil.  Dont get me wrong resil is good and its good to have that 4k.  I just feel as if at this point i could sacrifice some resil for other stats and still perform the same.

I don't worry about a slight speed increase.

This.  Ive never really worried about it, tend to perfer straight stat enchant.  I do understand that it certain situations, enviroments where that slight increase is beneficial.

Also thanks for all the advice and your thoughts.  See thread has gotten somewhat decent amount of views, tho only the two of us conversing.  Tho i really do hope we get some other posters just for some more diversity/opinions and discussions.

I would definitely recommend you get a +speed enchant of some sort on your boots. Assassin’s Step is the best — I go with the Stam+Speed because I’m poor — but you definitely need that 8% run speed increase for kiting.

I like gemming for hit or hit+agility in the blue sockets, then reforging the hit in my gear to crit. The PvP gear offers plenty of stamina, so I try to squeeze a little DPS out of it where I can.

Obviously, go with Delicate (agility) gems in your red sockets, then agility/crit or agility resil in your yellows, depending on which stat you prefer. Considering how much resil you have, I'd go with the crit.

Stat weights for BM PvP are as follows: Hit (up to 5%) > Agility > Crit > Mastery > Haste

I've read Spell Pen is pretty high up there for PvP, what's your take on that stat?

So, reasonably important then…. Note to self… get Spell Pen!

Thanks Oz for asking this important question and thanks Gar for the great article.

No, thanks for mentioning it. Sometimes I just take things for granted and forget to touch on them. icon_wink
