This guy hits hard and it's quite impossible to solo tame him at 81. I found out the hard way. (And I even thought how lucky I was to see a rare spawn with no one nearby. lol. ) I'll come back for him at 85 when there are less hunters around… hopefully.
EDIT: Apparently he can be tamed right now at 81. Think of pre-pre-patch King Krush and all the stamina and haste buffs you get. I'm going for him but someone has already tamed or killed Terrorpene in our server.

So sad, I camped him today, and found him, tried to solo tame, and he does so much fire damage, got my tame down to almost 90%. I died and came back, and there was an orc hunter taming him, so I watched in morbid fascination as my much sought after find was being jacked from me, but I did the decent thing and did not interfere, hope Karma is paying attention, lol.

Drakien, immune to traps. Just like Krush. 
Keoke, I know how it feels all too well… that happened to me with Arcturis and King Krush.
I found a hunter today who really wanted to tame Terrorpene so I didn't interfere. With the help of a healer, she was able to tame Terrorpene after 2 deaths (healer aggroed).
Based on my first sighting and that hunter's camping, we estimate the spawn time as 12 hours.

What makes me laugh are the casual comments: “Oh I tamed him without problems at 85.” Maybe I should reply by saying “Oh the past few days I've had at least 8 hours sleep. 'tis awesome.”

I definitely agree. All pets find us and not the other way around.
For example, I've decided to camp for Terrorpene for 4 hours (3 hours + 1 hour after a server reset). It's a no show. I'm pretty sure that if I stop camping and do casual flybys, he will show up!
For now it's onwards to 85!

I just attempted to tame him at level 82. no luck. I used 1 haste potion, but i didnt have any stamina items. I thought if i distanced myslelf from him I would have enough to to tame him, but that didn't work out because his attack is ranged. My tame was about 75% done when I died. After I got me corpse I check to see if any of my guild was in mount hyjal but they weren't. Then I checked my friends and one of my warlock friends was. I told him to fly to my loccation and give me a health stone, but while he was on his way an 85 allience hunter came and tamed him. So I congratzed him and left.
10 minutes later i was buying glyphs at the auctionhall were I saw the hunter again with his new pet. He named him Bowser.

Well, I lggged on this morning, at 9:30 Pacific time and there was Terrorpene again, right under me, so the 12 hour respawn seems to be accurate. This time I thought I was more prepared, I had 2 throwaway corehounds, and had some gear that was just haste. Well 2 corehounds gone, and 6 attempts later still got PWNED!!!. He hits with a lava Laser, for 10K damage per 1 to 2 seconds. My health was at 47k. Not even close, only got him to 
%. So my gear is all Red, I heathstoned back to SW and repair, and go to AH and get some fire resistant potions, and some haste enchants, and flew back to the portal and back to Terrorpene. Guess what he was still there. I go to enchant my gear with haste, Huh!!!! cant use it on lvl items less than 300 Gagghhh!!!!, okay ill use my corehound Chromaggus, and hit hysteria, and just dismiss him. I get that Turtle down to 90%, but he's still hitting me for 10k damage per second, or per 2 seconds, but its just 10k, not more not a little less, no misses. I tried about 6 more times, until my armor shows all red. I come back one last time and a mage is killing him super easy, Gagghhh!!! Oh well I had plenty of chances, and I guess I need to be better geared, and get some better potions, or something, lol. Sooo Frustrating, to see him twice already. Well the 3rd time will be the charm. It looks like your gonna need about 60k health minimum to survive thru his 10k blast.

O M G ! If I read that correctly to mean that you so desperately wanted Terrorpene that you dismissed a Chromaggus?!?!…….
Wow. Just wow.
When Karma hits you back on the good end, that day's probably gonna feel like you drank a whole gallon of Felix Felicis! (Yeah, its a Harry Potter reference…so sue me. =P I just got done reading Half-Blood Prince to my kids.)

Did Blizz change something in the past week or two so that we can't use Deterrence while taming?
Seems like Deterrence + Ancient Hysteria + some haste, would be all that's needed to survive the tame.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I went back, and to clarify, I did not abandon Chromaggus, No Way!!!! I just dismissed him before the tame. Anyways signed back on at 6:30 Pacific time, and there he was again!!! So I tried my tame again, with a haste potion, and a stamina scroll. I had 60k health, was not using any throwaway pet, and started the tame. It got down and I thought I was gonna die, but YES!!!! I finally got him. When I looked at my health it was at 254, wheeew!!! that was just too close for comfort. You do need a minimum of 60k health I believe to even attempt this tame without anyone to help you. So good luck to everyone, it seems his respawn time is fairly quick, like 6 hours, because I signed on with my son at about 12:30, and he tamed him no problem, first tame, he had like 100k health tho. So at about 6:30 pm, 6 hours later he was there, on que. So good luck to all of you getting him, I regret he's not more rare, even tho I'm glad he wasn't for me, I hate to see SW crawling with the Terrorpene!! like it's some kinda turtle convention, sigh. Oh on a side note, it really sucks you can use freeze trap on Corehounds now. another long sigh…oh well

Grats Keoke. 254?! Wow that was really close!
So far I haven't seen anyone else with Terrorpene. I've been seeing a variety of hunter pets which is cool.
Just a question about freeze traps, do they work with Chromaggus? I think only the named ones are immune while the ones at Hyjal for example are not.

Just tamed Terrorpene at level 82 and it was the hardest tame I have ever done. I died 6 times before I finally got him. Time I saw him was about 11:05 server time on magtheridon. I had no haste or stamina items or anything like that. I was MM and the one thing that made the difference for me was Silencing shot. It gives you an extra 3 seconds before you start taking damage. I started taming with 45k health and ended up with 12 health. No not 12k healh just 12. The red in my health bar was barely even visible. You have to hit tame a split second after u fire of Sshot or you won't have enough time.

Okay… I got Terrorpene, too. Although, I have to admit that I got him on kind of a cop out. Not as valiantly as all of you.
I first saw him Friday night and was trying to tame him when an 82 pally killed him in front of me. He doesn't count for any achievement, so it's doubtful that people will camp him as much Krush, Loque, or Aotona. Still, I went to bed pissed. I had a hard time falling asleep, actually.
I parked my hunter on top of his spawn point and went on to level my priest on Saturday in Vashj'ir (very cool zone). I logged back on to my hunter every 15 minutes or so to check if he'd popped. No dice. Continued with the same strategy on Sunday and saw him at about noon. So… this is where I kind of cheesed out. I offered 500g to a healer in zone chat. An 85 priest pinged me, joined group, I tagged him, aggro'd him a bunch, and put the tame down. Ding! Pretty new turtle.
So, I have to ask. I know there's the challenge of solo taming, so I figure I lose that street cred. Still, since it is a rare spawn and more people will start to go for taming him, I just want to get him while the gettin' is good. Any objections from my fellow hunters? Should I be ashamed?

Who cares if you did it by yourself or with an army of healers. He spawned, you found him and you figured out a way to bend him to your will. Sounds like Mission Accomplished to me. NOT something to be ashamed of!

As an aside: I'm really starting to be bummed out by the number of hunters who take the attitude, in game or out, that a tame is not special if it is one widely available. To hell with that! Every single pet in my stable is there because I WANT it there. Not because I feel like a special little snowflake for having it. Stay true to yourselves people!
