Hi there fellow Hunters. I'm back! Or should I say... I'm baaaa-aaack!
Where have I been you wonder? I've been levelling support classes on my new home at Gundrak in the lost paradise of Oceania. Gundrak? Are you kidding, Darrwyn? No, not kidding. My daughter started a toon on Gundrak, as did my wife, so I started one too. Now I have nine! What can I say, I'm an altomaniac!
On to business...
My latest alter-ego is an orcish fellow named Ruuth. (What can I say, I always have either "th" or "k" in my Orc names!) He is loomed up, with chest, shoulders, trinket and shotgun. (The gun being why I didn't bother with a troll... already had the gun.) As professions, he is a hunter/gatherer at the moment levelling skinning and mining. (I have other alts who will benefit from these professions.) As usual, I am still making use of... Herecy spoiler alert!... castsequence macros.
Ruuth is currently level 21 Marksman, and uses the following macros:
Mark
#showtooltip Hunter's mark
/petassist
/petattack [nomod]
/cast [nomod] !Auto Shot
/castsequence reset=target Hunter's Mark, Serpent Sting
I use the [nomod] qualifier so I can mark a target but not attack it yet, if I wish to.
STDY
#showtooltip Steady Shot
/petassist
/petattack
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast [@mouseover,harm][@focustarget,harm][@target,harm] Steady Shot
DAMG
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence reset=target Arcane Shot, Serpent Sting, Kill Command, Arcane Shot, Arcane Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
AIMD
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/cast [@mouseover,harm][@focustarget,harm][@target,harm] Aimed Shot
As a Marksman, I always shoot Steady Shot in pairs. My "rotation" is usually...
Hunter's Mark, Arcane Shot, Serpent Sting, Kill Command, Steady Shot, Steady Shot until back to 90+ focus. I'll throw in a Concussive Shot if something is heading my way or the Healer's way. My dungeon pet is currently a cat (the white lion, can never remember his name) and he has growl and prowl turned off in dungeons. Against a boss or a boss guard I'll use Aimed Shot to open my attack (using [SHIFT] Hunter's Mark) then into my usual sequence.
As usual, while I hope this may be useful for other hunters, I accept that castsequence macros are generally distasteful to "real" hunters, however it's how I play, and I do okay. Ruuth has consistently been at or near the top of DPS and damage according to Recount, so I pull my weight. I welcome discussions, and will help developing hunters as best I may.
And yes, I'm baaa-aaack!
Cheers,
D
Gar, I'm out of practice... could you transfer this to th Macros 'n' such forum, please?
Okay, that didn't last long.
Don't get me wrong, it worked a treat... but now...
MM
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence Steady Shot,Steady Shot # This is to make sure I always shoot SS in pairs
/cast [@pettarget,exists] Kill Command # This will be replaced with Chimera Shot later (unless I change it again!)
/cast [noparty, pet, exists] Growl # This ensures that when I'm soloing, Fido gets the target's attention.
/cast !Auto Shot
#showtooltip Multi-Shot
/cast [@target,exists] Multi-Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/petassist
/cast [noparty,pet,exists] Growl
#cast [pet,exists] Rabid #When I get Rabid, I'll change this so it isn't a comment
/cast [pet,exists] Roar of Courage
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence reset=target Arcane Shot,Arcane Shot, Serpent Sting #Serp Sting won't be needed for nearly dead targets
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast [noparty,pet,exists] Growl
#cast [pet,exists] Rabid
/cast [pet,exists] Roar of Courage
Back to the huntering...
Cheers,
D
Yep, gone and changed it all already.
Now using:
Main MM Spam:
#showtooltip
/cast [nocombat] Hunter's Mark
/petattack
/castsequence [@target,exists][@focustarget,exists] reset=target Steady Shot,Steady Shot,Arcane Shot,Arcane Shot,Steady Shot,Steady Shot
#cast [@target,exists] Chimera Shot
/cast [combat] !Auto Shot
Logic...
If I am NOT in combat, Hunter's Mark will be cast at my current target, or if I haven' set one, at my Focus' (Tank or Pet) target.
If I (or the tank) have a target, and it's not dead, the castsequence will continue. It will reset for a new target.
When I get Chimera Shot, I'll uncomment the Chimera Shot line. Until I reach a higher Haste plateau, I will be aiming to complete 4 Steady Shots and 2 Arcane Shots between Chimeras. One day, in the future, I'll be looking to a third Arcane Shot!
If I am IN COMBAT already, I'll start Auto Shot. This allows me to put Hunter's Mark on the target, and allow my pet to get to the target before I steal away his agro. Mainly for solo hunting.
Should my Focus(energy, not the tank) fall below 30%, I have the option of casting Steady Shot (not a castsequence) or for the inverse, Arcane Shot or Multi Shot if over 70%. I use Powa Auras to tell me when I am on either end of that spectrum.
The only other castsequence macro I am using at the moment is my Kill Shot...
#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=8 Kill Shot, Kill Command, Arcane Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
When I have the Kill Shot Glyph in place I'll replace this, but in the meantime, during those 10 seconds after the KS is fired off, I have alternatives available to me.
All for now...
Cheers,
D
Yes! Yes! Yes!
We all knew it wouldn't last, didn't we?
Now using three (3) castsequence macros...
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence reset=target Hunter's Mark,Steady Shot,Steady Shot,Steady Shot,Steady Shot,Steady Shot,Steady Shot
/cast (@pettarget,exists] Kill Command
/cast [combat] !Auto Shot
/cast [noparty,pet] Growl
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence reset=target Hunter's Mark,Arcane Shot,Arcane Shot,Arcane Shot,Arcane Shot
/cast [@pettarget,exists] Kill Command
/cast [combat] !Auto Shot
/cast [noparty,pet] Growl
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/cast !Aspect of the Hawk
/castsequence Arcane Shot
/cast Kill Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
I have tried having Hunter's Mark on a separate keybind but my tired old fingers are just too slow. Doing things this way give me a significant DPS improvement. I rarely have the focus for more than 4 Arcane Shots in a row, and I never seem to see a "wasted" GCD with the steady shots, even against bosses. Now I have 40% chance to proc free Aimed Shots nothing seems to live long enough for me to waste a GCD on refreshing a HM. And not getting HM up is too big a loss to be concerned about an occasional "wasted" GCD.
Even when running new content (ie I've just reached a high enough level) I'm still 2nd or 3rd in the DPS stakes, and that's fine for me.
Cheers,
D
It's just so hard maintaining a respectable degree of herecy these days...
Revisited my entire strategy for this guy.
Now, I'll be using Aimed Shot as the focus dump on bosses, mini bosses, and Multi-Shot as the dump against trash.
So....
Steady Shot
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence [@focustarget,harm][@focus,harm][@target,harm] Steady Shot
#cast [@target,exists] Chimera Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast [noparty,pet] Growl
Kill Shot
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/castsequence [@focustarget,harm][@focus,harm][@target,harm] Arcane Shot
/cast [@target,exists] Kill Shot
/cast !Auto Shot
/cast [noparty,pet] Growl
Aimed Shot
#showtooltip
/petassist
/petattack
/cast [@target,exists] Aimed Shot
/cast [noparty,pet] Growl
And... I've repositioned a Hunter's Mark hotkey where my poor ol' fingers can get to it in a timely and efficient manner.
Cheers,
D
