[#1175]

OK, this has been stumping me for a good long time now.

I'm trying to put together a macro that would accept mouseover AND focus target conditionals for Silencing Shot and Tranquilizing Shot, using the Shift modifier to toggle between both. Here is how I have it set up:

/cast [nomod] [@mouseover, harm] [@focus, harm, exists] Tranquilizing Shot

/cast [mod:shift] [@mouseover, harm] [@focus, harm, exists] Silencing Shot

Theoretically, I expected this to work as other modifier-based macros would. However, what happens in reality is that this macro prioritizes Silencing Shot when used, and then fires off Tranqs until the cooldown for Silencing is up--regardless of whether I press Shift or not.

What am I doing wrong here? Or is it even possible to use modifiers for Mouseover and Focus target macros?

I see what you're trying to do here, but I don't think it's possible. I've not seen any macros before like yours, nor have I ever tried to create one like this. However, just to be sure, I tried out a few variations before I answered this. I couldn't get any of them to work.

To me, it seemed like this would have worked…

/cast [nomod][@mouseover,harm][@focus,harm,exists] Tranquilizing Shot; [mod:shift][@mouseover,harm][@focus,harm,exists] Silencing Shot

…but it chokes. I'm not entirely sure as to why, but my guess is the macro doesn't like the double targeting conditionals.

Gar, thanks for the reply and yeah, I think that's it. =/ Somewhere along the line the game hates using multiple target conditionals with button modifiers and it frizzles out. Although to be fair it DOES leave me with a macro that shoots both Tranq Shot and Silencing Shot at the same time on my Focus/Mouseover target. A bit hefty on the Focus cost, but at least it disrupts those irritating Disc Priests in PvP.

If so, I might just get rid of the conditionals and leave the macro as is so I can add "/y SHADDAAAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!" at the end. 😉

In my experience, if you are going to use modifiers, those conditions should be at the top of the macro...

/cast [mod:shift] bla bla bla

However, your [nomod] condition should have covered it.

Another heretical option would be

/castsequence [@mouseover,harm][@focus,harm] Tranquilizing Shot; Tranquilizing Shot

/cast [@mouseover,harm][@focus,harm] Silencing Shot; Silencing Shot

But then again, while Silencing Shot is on cooldown, Tranq Shot will fire off. That's better than nothing happening though.

Gryzor returns for more sexeh! I was able to figure out how to pull this off at last, though not without somebody else paying the price.

Thanks to Brang's [Last Shadowmeld] video and my experimentations with heal macro targeting priorities on my Disc Priest, I was finally able to create a macro with multiple modifier-based skills and multiple targeting conditionals.

First, the priority: the priority in which targets are selected depends on the order you place the conditionals in.

Here is one macro I once made for my Greater Heal, which I primarily use on the tank:

/cast [@focus, exists, nodead] [@player] [@target, help, nodead] Greater Heal

Based on the order of the conditionals, this macro will first search for a focus target (the tank) if any, myself if there is no focus target, and finally a friendly target if I have one selected. In hindsight this macro is flawed, since for maximum effectiveness [@player] should have been placed last. Why? Because the macro will then prioritize confirming the existence of a targeted friendly unit instead of casting the spell on myself.

I then watched Brang's final video explaining a few of his general purpose macros, and I discovered something interesting. For example, in his Master's Call macro which he also uses to help free arena partners from roots/snares, he writes something to this effect:

/cast [@mouseover, help, nomod] [@player, mod:shift] Master's Call (dunno if this is how it looks like)

From this I figured that modifiers can only work within a single targeting parameter. In the previous macro, the targeting conditionals were ignoring the modifiers and instead prioritizing the targeting parameters. That's why it kept firing both shots off at the same time. But in the above macro, each targeting conditional has its own unique modifier parameter. Meaning, if Brang had a mouseover target it would cast Master's Call on him/her, and if nothing then pressing shift would cast it on himself.

So for good measure, I experimented with the following on a trio of Training Dummies until I got it right:

/cast [@mouseover, harm, nomod] [@target, harm, nomod] Concussive Shot
/cast [@mouseover, harm, mod:shift] [@target, harm, mod:shift] Scatter Shot

With the above, I was able to cast Concussive Shot on a mouseovered training dummy while using the shift modifier to Scatter my primary target, assuming I had no mouseover target. If I were attacking 3 targets at the same time, quickly switching mouseovers would cause me to Scatter one and snare the other while continuing to put pressure on the main target.

It can be expanded further as much as the 255 character limit would allow, and with this I gather I can add a focus modifier to the above for good measure. But what I am happy to say is: the thing works. icon_biggrin
