A few weeks ago I commissioned Pike for one of her cute little custom avatars. While sitting at my computer today trying to muster up motivation to get some work done, I heard the familiar chime letting me know I just received an e-mail. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that it was a message from Pike letting me know my avatar was ready. I quickly pulled up my PayPal account and sent her some duckets. Within minutes she sent me over the artwork.
I’m sure most of you are familiar with Pike’s blog, “Aspect of the Hare“, if not, then you should definitely check it out. She’s one of the premier WoW bloggers on the internets and her site offers a wealth of information for both aspiring and seasoned Hunters alike. Plus, not only is she skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to Huntering, she’s also a gifted storyteller. Bookmark her site if it’s not already.
Let me tell you… I am thoroughly impressed with her “skills of an artist”. Strongbad‘s got nothing on her. 😉
Along with my screenshot of Garwulf and King Krush, I sent her a few special requests…
Hello Pike!
I would like to request one of your cute little avatars. Attached is a screenshot you can use for reference.
As far as the expressions and likenesses go, I mainly wish for it to be comical. I was thinking something along the lines of a “buddy jesus”. Also, Krush can certainly be a happy dino. Apart from that, just do your thing.
I would however like to ask that you do a couple of things…
Could I get the avatar at 150×150, and could you create it as a .png with a transparent background? I’d like to be able to change background images and colors later on if needed.
I will pay you $xx.xx via PayPal for this if the terms are acceptable. Let me know.
Did she come through or what?! This caricature of Garwulf and his beloved Devilsaur exceeded my expectations. Look at the detail on the tabard!!
Now granted I paid a bit more for mine since I had a few special requests, her standard rate is only $10 for a custom 100px x 100px avatar. Although her art is a labor of love and she’s practically giving these things away, it is a very time-consuming labor of love. If any of you are thinking of commissioning Pike for one of these incredibly unique avatars, I encourage you to toss a couple of extra bucks her way. She could easily get away with charging a lot more for these because they’re totally worth it, but she’s too sweet so she doesn’t.
Aww, I am so glad you liked it! I had a ton of fun working on it.
