Again, thank you all. It's all helpful and gives me direction on what I should be doing, which is what I want.
When I started it, the game seemed so simple, but it really can turn into a science or math problem if you let it. I think I'll keep doing the things I like doing like questing, but now with a little more added focus on what can help me, if I look at it too much from the math side it loses some appeal.
I headed down this road of asking for help out of such frustration in the BGs, getting killed every 10 seconds. It's really annoying, but now I know to stick much more to the PvE side of things and it's OK. There is one bow that is for honor points that I'd really like, so I will probably jump into PvP every once in a while.
I'm now going to concentrate on my hit and agility (and pets). Thank you
I hate to ask for more after all the time everyone has already given, but how does the BG for no XP work, how do you do it?

I think you can visit Slahtz in Orgrimmar, near where you by the Honor/Conquest gear and you can turn off your XP gain so that you can run BGs without leveling your character.
Pretty sure the Vicious Gladiator's Longbow is Best in Slot Ranged for Hunters until you can get some of the raid drops from the Cataclysm raid bosses. Weapons, especially ranged ones, are definitely an exception to the "don't use PvP gear to PvE" rule.
OK, I'll look around Stormwind in the same area for the Alliance equivalent as I'm a Night Elf.
I think it's good to have a little Honor/Conquest currency, but I don't want to level that way, you miss too much good stuff.
Oops! I didn't catch that you were the enemy, I mean an Alliance Hunter, so you need to see Behsten in Stormwind. 😀
Elusepher-I have by far the least experience of anyone who has chimed in on this thread. I mean I really suck, hell I just asked in this forum which of two items would be a better ranged weapon-how bad is that? So I completely understand the 'starts feeling like a job' feeling. Have taken two long breaks because of it s'matter of fact. Fortunately Garwulf and others have put together stuff, much like the info you're getting here that doesn't get into all of that crap (I mean incredibly complicated dilligent theorycrafting) just how and what will make you better at the class thusly have more fun n that's what it's all about.
If you want scary complicated make me cry comments, go look in the PvP forums and read the info I got (all of it most helpful) once I decided to go pretty much all in PvP. But the people here can and will help and just like the folks at my AA, GA and Drug rehab meetings, I love em all. Even the pretty boy.

I got some replacement items from the AH and am now pursuing quest lines that will upgrade what I have.
