Wow...I just returned from a 9 month long break and I have no idea what
to do...I feel like this is the first time I have ever played
before...lol
I need to do lots of reading to catch back up but if
anyone can lend a hand in the meaning time with some tips on how I can
best get back on my feet...I would appreciate it. This looks like a great resource for hunters and glad I have found it.
I guess I should add...I am PVE only so I just need help getting things back in order for quests and raids. Thanks again.
This
is me now as I have returned in case anyone wants to take a peak...I
figure all me gear is outdated and lame by now and my talents are reset
so I need to figure out how to set those back up. I see some other stuff
has changed to...I really hate coming back into the middle of all these
changes...very frustrating...lol...again...I appreciate any help in my come back I can get. Thanks.

Welcome back to the game, and welcome to the Lodge! You are definitely in the right place to get the info you need. First off, to me your gear looks legit, and absolutely ready to face the Cataclysm, so I don't think you'll need to worry about that anytime soon at least, as Cata is right around the corner and will change your gear up anyways.
As far as builds are concerened, I see that you're marksmanship, and really have a pretty solid build it seems. You may want to take some out of besital dicipline and put some in pathing, especially as marksmanship, I hear that haste can be hard to come by, but I'll let the other marksmanship folks help you out with that.
I think you look good to go man, just get in there and get your hands dirty and get used to the new focus, but you will get the hang of things really soon. Again, welcome to the Lodge and browse around, I have no doubt you'll get the help you need!
Thanks...I appreciate the words. I just used a cookie cutter MM build so I didn't really look into it much. It was from a place I trust and I just wanted to get things rolling but I will certainly look into what you recommended. I spent a lot of time playing last night including starting a new undead hunter...lol...I figured it would be cool and plus maybe starting fresh would allow me to ease back in so that I could get a better handle on my 80. There are just so many little things that I keep finding that throw me...like the ports in Dal. seemed to have gone missing. I forgot about focus so I was surprised the first time I ran out spamming arcane with the undead hunter...lol...just stuff like that. But all in all the first day back was good. I am really excited.
Just go stand in front of a target dummy for an hour 🙂
Focus takes some time to get used to and all we can do is use it.
Drach is pretty much dead on with his post. Spend your time getting used to focus. You have decent gear, so I wouldnt worry to much there, it's just going to be replaced in Cata anyways. As for spec, as a fellow MM Hunter, only thing I would change is drop the 3 points in Bestial Discipline and put them in Pathing, as Drach mentioned.
Boys beat me to it again =D Welcome to the boards! We always love having fresh faces around here!!
Thanks everyone. I'll change those specs out asap. I look forward to hanging out here...finally a place with some friendly people...lol
Also...what glyphs should I be looking at.
I was thinking...
Prime: Steady, Arcane, Chimera
Major: Disengage, Silencing, ???
Minor: Feign Death, Mend Pet, ???
Just a word of advice from an old-school hunter I myself just returned from a 1 year break myself last week.
Make BM your main spec if you avoid all healing/pvp useless not damage increasing talents you'll have exactly 31 talent points in BM. use the last 5 wherever you want.
Core hounds are good to have in-case you don't have a bloodlust class in your raid. the pet's special is the same thing pretty much.
Use a wolf for normal 5-mans most people are geared to the point where you might as just toss in an extra buff like howl to make the sprints to end that dungeons have become quicker.
That's all the advice I have for you. But I always grab BM for my main after an extended break just because it's the simplest layout by far of the 3 spec's.

And on that note get the recount add-on and run a 5 man without any glyph's check out your top damage your pets top damage abilities and then get glyph's to increase those.
Most glyph's decrease CD's or increase %'s so whatever is doing the most damage buff up or lower the CD of it.
It make's sense really. Increase the % of your highest damage ability is most logical and lowering the CD's on best abilities so you can use them more often is nothing but grandeur.
