This is gonna be long. You've been warned.
As none of you know I've not been playing this game for the years n years that many of you have however as I understand it, the term 'huntard' essentially means a hunter who can't play the class for shit.
For two reasons I am no longer of the opinion that this is what the term should mean and I ask all of you , even the elves to carry my message across the lands. The first and most selfish of reasons is that I happen to be the poster child for the original meaning and it has done irreperable harm to my already fragile ego. However the damage is done and I, through my ace therapist Dr. Billy Bob-Ray Schwartz P.F.W. have come to terms with my mediocrity.
The second reason is the one that matters a tad. Though it has been mentioned by many since the release of Cataclysm, since my return from my WoW sabbatical I have become increasingly disappointed with the seemingly endless influx of wanks into the Hunter class. For a soloing self-centered dwarf such as yours truly who for the most part has not concerned himself with the wank quotient to notice speaks of a problem.
Now I do not know where they came from. Perhaps they were always there, parked on their Celestial Steeds since WotLK loitering around the Capitals snivelling about the lack of content. Maybe they were people who thought huntering was for pansies as it’s supposedly such an easy class to play and they’ve decided to give it a go. Could be their folks told them at 25, well maybe it was time to move out of the basement, grab a job at Mickey D's and are realizing real life isn't full of phat loot and they're venting their impotent frustration in pretendland. I dunno and I don't care the reason, they are truly a pain in the ass. I've noticed more griefing of hunters from other hunters than I have ever seen. Maybe it's always been there and I've never noticed given I have the attention span of a gnat.
Last night I was doing the kill spidey dailies and Deth'tilac came up on NPC. Now as I wrote about previously, my initial encounter with that purple pig wasn't a big success. Anyhow, I suck up the dwarven belly and pop on over to his hang out. I see a corpse, well several actually. I get a whisper from a hunter asking me to please not kill it as she (iceyrose was my 1st clue she was a she, though I did briefly think of Ozolin) is trying to tame it.
I tell her that killing it solo prolly ain't that easy and I was going to try a tame but rez and I'll give her a hand with her attempt. I simply refuse to do a steal. She says great, rezzes and promptly goes after it and gets one shotted. 5th time that's happened it seems. So I say we have to stratagemize to pull this tame off (thanks Lodge folks) I'm telling her from my own fails this is a marathon not a sprint.
I go over the entire process with her to tame this bad boy. We go grab us a couple of spiders and give it a whirl. Okay 1st one, she trap launched instead of dropped then forgot the rez pet part and got ganked. Deth re-sets and we have another go. The 2nd attempt is going great, she's picking up on laying the traps, timing and the kiting but she is backing up, more on that later. I'm typing out quick directions that many of you who do the group thing may be used to but I'm not. “Ice, Con, Rez” was about the extent but I did it without getting killed ! Cookie please. We have that spider going back and forth and so confused it's absolutely lovely.
Now out of the middle of f**king nowhere an Elf hunter is there and he starts attacking Deth, sends in the pet and commences firing away. 'Kill Shot” comes up on my screen so I ask, well tell the Elf to pull the pet. This p***k doesn't. Now I know I've run into my new definiton of the Huntard. Given low-rent dimestore c***sucker and f**stick are… umm… too wordy; Huntard it shall be.
I fire off two kills, tell her to go after the tame but of course the pet is breaking the tame. I'll admit, at that point the new player screwed up and fired off a shot. So I fire a distracting shot, nope. I tell her to do the same. Okay she doesn't know what distracting shot is. Oy… . I tell her both of us stop firing but that wank bastard ended up killing it. He timed his grief perfectly. Wonder which trainer teaches that. Then he summons his tamed Deth'tilic. Oh I am so surprised. When I Armory him it's the only rare he has so he probably had his entire guild , the quest NPC’s and Dear Abby helped him do the tame. Sure as hell wasn’t his skills.
Naturally I am cussing at this dirtbag, unfortunately all of my creativity only comes out as % @ @#&*^%!@!# which loses a tad in translation. Then he pulls my all time fave these clowns always do about how long he’s been playin, how many L85's he has etc. I say that is so incredibly awesome he can waste that much time but watching him as a hunter he makes one helluva a warrior.
So check this , my pard tells me she’s so upset she’s practically in tears. Yeah she is new, yes this has happened to her a fair bit, yes she seems oh, I dunno, a tad emotional and no she doesn't play all that well but for FFS, if you've been playing for years like this dipstick claims he has , what's with the griefing, new player or whoever?
I give him the obligatory pointless go f**k yourself and then talk to the pard to see if she's had a nervous breakdown or some damn thing. Nah she's okay. She then asks if I'll teach her the stuff I was doing given I make it look so easy. Okay don't laugh, I know asking me for help is akin to asking Oprah for weight loss tips but I did says she was new and not so good. So for about a half hour we kite spiders, freeze em, she stopped backing up and started strafing and such. She was a happy camper.
Here's the thing. This type of player is the new Huntard. Yes, the new player should try to be a tad better and I do have limited sympathy- game takes practice but I think she will at least try; if she doesn’t have a nervous breakdown first. Natch I gave her this joints name n told her to commence reading.
Given the numbers, this type of griefing 'hunter' seems to be breeding quicker than bunnies on speed and they are aggravating quite a few not so new players as well. I truly do not see the point in ruining the game for others. I figure one can only try to KOS em until they go back to being trade chat wanks or crawl back under the rocks from which they came. Plus kill their offspring. This new breed of Huntards is a major threat.

I'm happy to say I haven't come across this, but I'll throw in a “yet!”
Now, just a few thoughts… what DAY was this?
And, what TIME was this?
My theory is that the hours 3 pm to 7pm schooldays, and most of the weekend is open to schoolkids… and we know that demographic, (with a few exceptions) is the most belligerent, unintelligent and most immature group to ever log into this game.
Therefore, during those hours, the servers are full of “classtards” … ie it doesn't matter what class they are, they are just shits out to ruin it for everyone. I'd love to campaign for the ability to kill within our faction, and I don't mean duels. Dickheads like this will check you out and only accept if they outgear you by 400+ points.
I admist to picking and choosing the times I play, and what server I play on. I play on Moon Guard, my US server in the US evening, and my morning…. or Jubei Thos my Oceanic server after 7:30 pm my time when the kids have to make way for mums and dads on the family puter.
Oh one more thing, I usually encountered shit like…. whenever there's a wipe, blame the hunter, regardless of who stuffed up!
Is it any wonder I no longer PUG?
Cheers

Agio, you, my friend, are hilarious, and an excellent writer, IF a less than spectacular Hunter. As always, I'm flattered to be thought of and mentioned in your rants.
Even as a dwarf, you've shown to be quite the upstanding person, and for that I commend you. It's why you're a part of the Lodge and why I Oz decided to call off the hit he put out on you. Players like us (Lodge members) greatly outnumber the jerks, so far as I've seen, which keeps me interested in playing the game.
I have to agree with Dar on the timing thing- when the kiddies are online the entire WoW community suffers. Now, I know *plenty* of older players (18+) who are just as immature as the 10-17yo set (or however young they start) but a player's age is no excuse for the asshattery.
That griefing is, no offense to any of you, what I have seen as the prevailing attitude of PvPers when in PvE settings. There's a sense of entitlement, a sense of “I'm better than everyone at this game which gives me license to be a complete DICK to everyone and they'll just have to like it.” It's also usually declared as “I PWN JOO LOOZER- CHECK MY KILLS, OVER 9000, ALL PURPLES BITCH, 12HRS TO 85, SUCK IT.” I've also seen this same behavior/attitude from the “hard-core” raiders on my server.
I can appreciate a player's experience and game knowledge, but the people, like this griefer you experienced, who decide their expertise gives them free reign to ruin others' game play make me ill. I don't think it's limited to the Hunter class, but we'll see those more often because we're involved in the taming and pursuit of rare spawns. Being better at a *video game* just does not make you cool in my book.

I have in fact found that often for me, on my server it is usually later evening or very early am (this is because I have you know, a life n that’s when I play) hence why I believe the dicks to be slightly older. Also, many times you can tell or I can by the way they phrase things. Plus I had, on the sly prior to taking a complete break-been playing a baby orc hunter usually on weekends. I , at a terrifying level 7 was being challenged by level 20+ on quite a few occasions. That is a kid.
As for the PVP vs PVE player Oz (thanks for pullin the hit by the way), I think that is those who really aren't that proficient. The raiders, yeah they make sense, in chat they are a thrill to read.
I can't imagine Gar, Tak,Nik, hell even you or a host of others behaving like that that though with this many players, I'd imagine it to be more common amongst PvP-again no offense to anyone. I experienced this years ago in another game where all I did was PvP.
Dar, there is more to the tale that does go to your thoughts. I initially left it out because it was too much about me even though that is my favorite topic. I am slowly getting into the WoW PvP world. Only reason I haven’t yet is I’ll waste ridiculous amounts of time trying to get at least average at it. Plus I had a whack to learn about the overall game mechanics period.
No matter, I did in fact challenge this asshat in tween cussouts and after an ‘enough time to check my armory’ pause he accepted. Yes he whacked me-twice but given his years of experience, that he had some epic PVP gear, about 8k more hp's and I have zero resilience and marginal gear (in fairness his wasn't all that great), the fights shouldn’t have even been close and they were, very. And I really suck as a PVP hunter so I know this player sucks. 1st time he almost went down, he’s using a wolf and I’m hanging with a spider-well fn duh. Had he not landed a pretty impressive crit, his ass was mine. I’ve told him everytime I see him I’ll challenge him and yes, he’ll win for awhile but sooner than later I’ll be killing him on a regular basis. So in short I’ve become a stalker over a pixel pet. I hope he quits huntering before I get arrested in Stormwind.

On the server I play, the Hunters are all usually pretty respectful to each other. I've seen/heard lots of times of the different factions helping each other with taming/acquiring pets, etc. We do have our “huntards” in terms of players that don't know how to play the class.
My thoughts on what a “huntard” is?
I think it is a person that lacks the skill to play the class and refuses to take steps to better them self. I partially blame the game for “huntards”. It's all about blazing through the levels to get to the level cap now. This process does not allow for proper training along the way. As such, you get Hunters that run around with spirit and strength on their gear or don't know what a trap or distracting shot is when they reach the level cap.
I can't count the number of times I've gotten “Wow man that was cool!” when doing an instance and some mob broke free, I destracting shot it into a trap or line of sight it into a trap. They just had no clue it could be done.
My approach when coming across a Hunter like above, I consider them a newbie and offer advice. If they refuse my advice or don't act on it, well then we have a “huntard” on our hands.
As for the griefers being “huntards”. I suppose they could be lumped in there. I just consider them azzhats, every class has them. On my server, they are prevalent in the Deathknight class.

Vigilante justice is my favorite kind. I love it when they accept the duel, but often times the offending party (the other guy!) refuses to fight me! The nerve! I'm usually yelling at them, “I demand satisfaction, sir!” even knowing it's coming out <makes some strange guestures> and whatever gobbledygook they use to show the common Horde language to Alliance players, lol.

Well hell Takaas, s'far as a 'huntard' you just described me to a tee. That aside I'm not saying all hunters are dicks, far from it. Most are as you say, pretty respectful. I am saying that there has been a marked proliferation of dicks into the class since cata. I don't care about the other classes they aren't hunters so they don't count.
Ozolin, that is almost word for word what I said to this guy! Well… okay a minor variartion “Alright you lowrent p***k, let's go” Semantics *shrug*
