so the question is simple is BM still the best and fastest way to level and what pet type

I'm a new hunter, but I've lvled a druid, priest and lock. Lvling a BM hunter is absolutely a gas! I'm soloing all the quest that call for groups. I can kill an elite 2 lvls higher than I am. Go BM.
BM is probably the easiest still, yes, but honestly, it's not hard at all to level as any spec.
Pet type is the same for all specs while levelling, Tenacity while Solo, Ferocity while grouped.

Yup, BM pretty much is awesome for soloing. I use Ferocity pets for everything: either a cat or a wolf (or a devilsaur at higher levels). Spirit Beasts really are made for BM hunters but don't worry about that yet 🙂
As long as you have the Glyph of Misdirection, I'd think you could roll with any of the specs just fine.
