Ok, so I'm officially going to make an FFXIV journal/thread here, feel free to discuss any aspects or ask questions, I'm still figuring everything out, but all in all, it's a bit simpler to grasp than WoW, but imo, a much richer and more inviting game, so far that I've played.
My favourite class so far now, really has to be the Lancer, basically the squishy melee DPS.
Archers are pretty cool too, so are Gladiators, from what I remember in Beta, Marauder is pretty fun too.
I started a Thaumaturge, but that didn't last too long.
All the cities are amazingly well done, basically when picking a city to start in, you are just picking the type of area that you prefer, they are all equally good to start in.
If anyone want's to join me, Saronia is the world, Nira, Ido and Arin Muzyka are my characters that have survived thus far.
Ok, so finding a weapon upgrade for Lancer is a right pain in the ass, same with Armour upgrades too, most of the stuff out there is for the other classes, ugh.
But, still, having a lot of fun exploring and blowing stuff up.
Giving Archer another go, gonna try it as a different race/clan than before, and pickup some crafting/gathering profs with it.
A bit OT but are you planning on trying TOR when it comes out?
Thanks for doing this Indo, I might not always respond, but I am reading them, I enjoy hearing about the game for sure!

If I feel I can devote the time to it, sure, but honestly, with how FFXIV is shaping up so far, what with the crafting and adventuring and such, I'm not sure I'll have the time for TOR, especially if I'm playing Cata at all.
And Drach, glad you enjoy the posts, I'll try to actually go a little more in depth in time, especially as I do intend to RP in FFXIV if I can help it, I really need to get more into the lore and back story of the game first though before fully setting myself up for RPing.
Alrighty, I'm setting up a website for my linkshell, that I'm hoping get's plenty of members in time, or if not at least some good fun ones.
http://catalystffxiv.enjin.com/ If anyone wants to take a peek, I just got it started so still workin on it, lol
Linkshell..that takes me back :). Glad to see they're still using some of the same termonology. Are they still having it where your charachter can play multiple jobs too? I always thought that was cool, it would definitiely knock down the number of alts I have in WoW. Is there a Hunter like class? In XI they were called Beastmasters...alot of fun to play and could solo tons of stuff. They're Hunter in regards to pets, but damage output is not near the same, your pet really couldn't hold threat/hate very well if I recall.
Closest to a hunter is an Archer, no pets though, and yes, your character can have multiple jobs, basically, alts will be more for a different race than for a different class.
Looks like I'll be transferring myself over to Besaid for the fact that it's the designated unofficial RP server, and since RP tends to add a lot of fun to games like this, I don't plan to miss out on it!
That sucks there is no job with a pet! I loved beastmaster, but I solo primarily so it was golden for me. My other favorite job was Archer, it can put out a boat load of damage with it's special skills, I think it was Tactical Points, or TP, if you get enough built up you can use special abilities, Archer was one of the tops damage-wise.
TP is still in, and yeah, Archer's can do some pretty nasty damage still, I think they are the top DPS class in FFXIV, since they are the only class solely devoted to that, Lnacer is a debuffer/damage dealer, both magic classes are healing/debuff/damage, Marauder, Pugilist and Gladiator are all tank/damage dealers, and of course you have your gathering and crafting classes.
Hmmm, that's interesting that those jobs are the only ones, I bet they add some in the future. You have to swap jobs to go and gather? That seems interesting to always have to swap jobs to go pick some weeds.
Yep, each weapon/tool defines what job you are, and a fair amount of the abilities from each combat class can be used by any of the others, so if you feel like it, you can level up several classes and basically make up your own way of playing, which is why they put in less classes over all.
That is pretty cool, not as cookie cutter of a way to play through the game.
