For some reason I get a bit confused on what weapons to use, dps or more dmg. Here is my issue right now i have this

I just got the bow, I like bows better but if i put it on of course my overall dmg goes way down. Should i stay with the gun or use the faster bow?. I do alot of bg and dungeons i dont know if that matters just thought i would give as much info as possible.

Hiya. I believe the school of thought is to use the weapon that has the higher white damage, regardless of spec. This is mainly because the damage done by Auto Shot will likely be the highest, despite all the wonderful 'Shots' we have.
If you have Recount, you can examine where your damage is coming from by clicking on your name in the list. This will show you what I mean.
I your case, at level 47, don't worry too much about it, there are bigger and better weapons coming your way all the way to 85. If you BG regularly, you can check out the weapons available from your PVP vendor. I've never played Alliance, so maybe an Alliance player can advise where. I leveled a long way using bows from the quartermaster at Warsong Camp north of Orgrimmar, and I expect Alliance will have a similar place.
Yes it does and ive used the outrider bow too. Im trying to save HP now for good bg gear when i hit 60 lol. I have horde but im so used to alli that i get lost over there. So if im reading you right the gun would be better? Now my last question concerns dps vs crit, Since dps is constant on your ranged wpn and sometimes i have to decide on dps over crit or vice versa with some gear changes which is better to have at a higher lvl. I know im being silly but i want to squeeze every point of damage i can out of all my hunters. I Know its great to have both but sometimes when i switch gear i have to make a decision. Dps seems more logical to have higher because like i said its at a constat when your shotting? where as crit is a percentage deal? Yes im a pain but im very competitive and i dont want to loose in bg or be the bottome rung in a dungeon.
Not sure if this is still relevant, as maybe you've leveled beyond the need for those mentioned weps, but my advice would be to:
Use the bow for instances and the gun for PvP (if you BG at all).
The bow provides more overall DPS (great for sustained damage, ie: instances), but the gun has much more burst potential, which is good for PvP.
Ok ty gar. Im almost a 60 now but the info is still very usalbe to other wepons. On gear though my ? still remains if i have to choose on a item do i loose a bit of dps to get crit? or vice versa. I have some goodies now that gives me fore agility but i loose a couple dps points but the crit jumps by three or 4. I want both dammit...lol
