I've been trying to look for information on which profession is best for Hunter all day and I could not find any. I finally got my hunter to 85 today and have been trying out new professions. Before I quit in Wrath, I got my Engineering leveled to 350. My secondary profession is TBA. Any info would be great!! I don't really know about the professions in Cata
I think Leathworking is worth it for the Leg & (self) Wrist enhancements, but that's about all it's good for.

Mining is good to pair up with Engineering. It gives you the mats for making your stuff and Engineering in turn provides extra items when your mining such as volatiles.
I think Leathworking is worth it for the Leg & (self) Wrist enhancements, but that's about all it's good for.
I would only go this route if you have other characters that have Skinning or if you have lots of gold to spend buying mats. It would get quite expensive having to buy mats for both Leatherworking and Engineering.
For min/maxing, I would tend to look at jewelcrafting. However, only if you have an alt that is already a miner. Jewellcrafting can give you some really good bonuses, but is expensive to level if you will need to buy ore and metals and or uncut gems. If you don't have an alt, I'd go with mining because it will supply you with ores that you can smelt into bars for your already established profession of engineering. As a bonus it gives you "toughness" which I think grants you an extra 50 Stamina at full tilit.
The choice, as always, is yours though.

It partly depends on whether you have enough gold to take whatever profession you want (15-20k total for two), or if you need to take a gathering profession. It also depends on whether you like active bonuses (Engineering) or passive bonuses (all other ideal professions).
My short answer is that Mining, Herbalism, Skinning, and Tailoring are not ideal for bonuses, while all others are approximately equal. Blacksmithing and Engineering are the easiest to level just to gain bonuses at 400 and 425, respectively, as well as sharing similar mats.
