Over on his blog (dphowell.com) Daniel has a strange post up. If I am interpreting it correctly (as it is written with his usual twisted wit), I think he's saying he got an alpha invite from GC. I think we should all encourage him to accept the invitation and participate.
Most, if not all, of us have been influenced by BRK at some point in our huntering. Daniel's gift was being able to know HOW to communicate stuff in a way that everyone could understand. I certainly wouldn't want to have this interfere with his moving on in life, but if he can do it then how can we, as hunters, honestly say we WOULDN'T want Blizz to have his opinion during the alpha?
Just thought I'd share this in case people weren't aware but would like to help nudge Daniel back over to taking up the BRK mantle one last time. =)
An interesting and entertaining post, no doubt. One that certainly makes you go, hmmm…
But…
Personally, I don't see Daniel returning as BRK. I suppose there's a remote possibility that he could return solely for the sake of testing, but that seems far-fetched. Blizzard would probably have to dazzle him with some figures and pay him as a consultant. Even then, that doesn't seem likely, as his heart's not in it anymore.
If I were BRK, I'd stay away. Unless he can re-invent himself (which I suppose is possible) and approach the game with a more casual sense, a return would be ill-advised.
I think it's all or nothing for BRK, which means even if he were to try and approach things with a casual stance at first, in no time at all we'd be watching him succumb to WoW addiction yet again. There's also no doubt that the public and other WoW sites would put pressure on him to recapture his crown. Sure, a lot of people would encourage him to do his own thing at his own pace, but that would be the minority.
I can tell you from personal experience, there is no possible way to maintain a fulfilling and satisfying life, while also keeping up with a popular WoW blog, let alone palying the f-ing game.
Why do you think I only raid twice a month..?
Who has time to play???
I think BRK's realized that life on the outside is more rewarding, and that real world progression offers up better loots anyway. ![]()
Now, if BRK could make a return with perhaps a hard-core casual mantra, and teach others how to enjoy the game and not live it, then maybe he could swing it. That's more or less what I try to do here – BRK's just a better blogger than I am. ![]()
Even then though… it's still incredibly tough keeping up with the demands of maintaining a WoW blog, which was really his first love in my opinion. I've no doubt that he loved playing WoW, however I think that it was more to facilitate his blogging and continue to drive the BRK machine.
The guy has some talent for sure, and I think he can easily carve out another more rewarding identity, and one that hopefully will not consume him.
He's up to somethin' funny. If you go to bigredkitty.net there is a comic image there referencing Cataclysm in the dialogue.
What's most interesting is the image title, "conversation_1". This would lead me to believe there are more to come...
This could be exciting. 🙂
I certainly don't wish any bad mojo on the guy but I would really like him to give his input on the alpha, if he can. And your self-depreciating remarks aside, don't sell yourself short, Gar. For a guy who juggles RL, in-game exploits and a blog as big as this one is, you're holding your own there, chief!
It is interesting, though, to see how this is all unfolding. I didn't know Daniel outside of the BRK blog, but his parting remarks and his comments on his new blog since have all been very difinitive in terms of his separation from the game. If the invite is genuine, it is certainly something he could have kept to himself and declined. I hope that his sharing this with us is him looking for some support to wade back into the pool while only going as deep as he cares to as opposed to him KNOWING he won't play but wanting to hear us all ask him to try. Strange stuff.
All I know is one of you two better get a key to the testing at some point! I need educated opinions with which I can educate myself in the ways of huntering. =P
There's definitely something brewing.
Based on the most recent pic over at the bigredkitty.net address, I think it's safe to say he's coming back in some capacity. To what extent I cannot say, but I think that's what he wants. He's building the suspense for a reason. I don't blame him... I think this is pretty fun. 🙂
I believe there may be some underlying truth to his parodied (maybe not... *shrug*) conversations with GC. BRK coming back to WoW would bode very well for Blizzard for a variety of reasons...
He's a brilliant spokesperson with an unparalleled charisma. He would really help build te excitement surround the release of Cataclysm.
BRK's return to the game would likely help Blizzard regain many of its former customers. Having the game's most well-known and celebrated player return to the game after a long hiatus would show other players it's ok to come back. BRK could emerge as a phoenix, teaching others how it's alright to enjoy WoW as a hobby, provided you take it in moderation. I bet he'd bring quite a few subscribers back.
Heck, maybe they'll throw him in some commercials alongside Mr. T. 😉 That'd be awesome.
excuse me if i sound noobish here but who is the BRK here that sounds like a some legend or something??

I imagine this is going to be a common question, being that BRK has been absent from the WoW scene for over a year.
Well… put it this way… were there a legitimate WoW Hunter Hall of Fame, BRK would be a unaminous shoe-in for his first year of eligibility.
He was, and probaby will re-emerge, as the greatest representative and spokesperson for the hunter class.
Two things to familiarize yourself with:
His videos –
His new site –
I'm not sure what happened with the old site, but hopefully he has a DB copy of it. There was too much good stuff in there, releveant by todays standard's or not, to just let go to waste.
aah, kk i went to his youtube channel and man he has alot of vids will see which one can be useful for me.
