[#798]

So I saw the patch notes that indicated as of 4.1, Tame Beast will now bring the pet up to our level!  No more grinding three levels of xp (which I know is WAAAAAAY better than how people had to level pets in the old days =P).  However, I haven't seen anything that tells me if the pets in my stable will match my level when I bring them out or if I will have to re-tame them or grind the levels.

I tried asking Watson, but he was busy kicking a$$ on Jeopardy so I have come to my fellow hunters in search of the answer.  Anyone know?

In the past when they've had leveling changes, it's been a simple "pull from the stable and they level" kind of situation.

...now... back in MY day... we hunters had to go out and tame new pets to learn abilities and ranks of abilities to train OTHER pets...  and woe if they were like level 5 and you were level 60...

Come to think of it, I actually miss that.

Cool.  That's what I was hoping for and I guess I will continue to hope for the same.

Btw, you don't REALLY miss the old days of time sink pet training do you?  I mean, that's just the nostalgia talking, right?

Honestly, I miss it. I had fun charting out my adventures back then, researching where I needed to go and what pet I needed to tame to learn said skill.

My most memorable journeys were into LBRS with my guild to tame the worg needed for Bite Rank 6. My all-time was solo-taming a Son of Hakkar in ZG for Lightning Breath Rank 6.

I didn't mind stuff like that at all. I just wished we'd had at least 5 stable slots back then, as you always had to keep one free for taming pets for new skills, leaving you with only two available slots.

TBH I'd forgotten we used to have to tame pets for specific skills! I think I blocked that part out of my mind 😉

I didn't have a problem levelling any pets in Cata. I just took them along on instance runs and really didn't care which ones I had at any given moment. I never had anyone say "U fail, need to use a wolf." I proll used 2-3 pets per run if they were all really close to 85. It was kinda fun.

Yes, I really do miss it.  Like Gar, i love the stories of spending a Sunday afternoon trying to locate a wind serpent just for a specific rank of swoop or bite or stink or whatever it was they had to have, so I could pass it along, right down to the level of the spell.  Numerous a night there was, spent with pizza and beer and Petopia and a friend, just hanging out.

Ozzie, I get busted on for bringing lower level pets all the time as an excuse for hobbling my dps output.  It's my guild, they love to tease me, but it makes me laugh that I always have a couple leveling up.  I am going to miss THAT come 4.1.

One thing I do not miss about the old days of huntering, was the pet leveling grind. My god, that was horrid.

Heaven forbid you wanted to tame a new pet that was 30 or 40 levels below you. It took freaking forever to level them up back then. That's one of those, what I consider to be, mindless and unnecessary grinds that I am happy to have seen eliminated from the game.

In reading the comments from the old guard, it has grown on me that (given how I don't raid much/at all) tracking down pets in order to train abilities would have appealed to me greatly.  The level grind required to bring your pet up to level, though, is still something I don't think I would have enjoyed.

Ozzie, wish you had been around for our beer-and-pizza nights for FTH runs on MG.  they were fairly epic.  Can't wait to be able to do them again...

Lawman, you would have loved them.  It was totally right up your alley.

Guinness, pizza and crushing the horde?!?!  Oh  no.  I wouldn't have liked ANY of that AT ALL.  Just because Guinness is the best drink on the face of the earth, pizza is the best food on the face of the earth and stomping hordies is the most fun you can have in Azeroth doesn't mean I would have liked that at all.

LIES!  I WOULD have loved it and it IS right up my alley.  I really must have bared my soul during my stay here for you folks to know me so well.  =P

rofl guys!  Lawman, takes one to know one, right?  /winks

Ozzie, now I feel really stupid for not knowing you - Tokii and I run those runs.  If you were in vent early on, we always announce pizza order time and beer.  I'm so glad to hear you got a warbear!  We kept trying to stop running them, but they were hugely in demand.  Working on new strategy for Cata due to the spawning issues, so we'll see...
