I'm feeling quite underpowered right now as Marksmanship Hunter. Lots of other dps is doing 8k dps or so and I'm topping out at 6k if I'm lucky. I could probably up my dps if I switched to Survival but I'm really attached to MM. *sigh*
My son sent me a whisper the other day from his lvl 70 DK tank… DPS of 16680!!!
How did that make me feel? Very underpowered!
I asked him what rotation he used. He said, 'What's a rotation?'
He is achieving incredible dps and can't even say how he does it. He just mashes keys!

16k from a level 70 DK?? He must have been in some phase that used a vehicle or bombing run or something. Tanks don't usually top the charts. My main is an 85 DK tank and I'm pretty well geared for being two weeks into Cata and I can barely scrape 10k on trash mobs. I'm usually 8k single target.
What is really sad was that he was questing in the wilderness in some skirmish in Howling Fjord somewhere, he thinks. No dragons, no bombs, just mashing keys.
Well his hit rating and stuff wont need to be as high. When first starting to hit the 'high' levels without epic gear, the lowbies will look over powered. It will even out and he will have it caught up to him.
Takaas, I'm surprised on your numbers though, Cel's only 84 and I'm still beating out those who at 85. But it could be the case of what I just stated. I have 7 bubs from 85, after that I'll run a few things and see how I am fairing with it. But as of right now I'm topping out at like 10K on good fights.
I did some spec tweaking and pet tweaking, then tested on a target dummy. With my current spec and cat out, I can hit 7k or better. I believe it's the movement that is killing my dps in boss fights. Also, I'm not fully enchanted or have all my gear upgraded.
well if it makes you feel better.. soon as I hit 85 my shit tanked too.

It's also because combat ratings are really skewed at that level, but yeah, that would be an AoE fight.
My priest who just hit 80 actually isn't doing too shabby, pretty consistently able to hit 7-8k DPS with the gear I have now, before reforging a bunch of stuff to add haste, which is still low, but so is my crit, so I gotta bring that up too.
Fight's that I'm seeing for the first time or have a bunch of add phases or w/e mess me up, cause mana + ramp up time kinda sucks in a multi-target situation 😡

The problem here is mostly spec — unfortunatly, with current gear (even starting epics), the only viable DPS/raid talent build is that of Survival. Marksmanship is the worst, even behind BM. BM is ok, but not great, and cannot keep up with Survival. Some of this may have to do with scaling, and at current item levels, the numbers simply aren't there.
I can easily sustain 11k+ in 5 mans with my current gear ( armory: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/lightninghoof/hermntuthrot/simple ), and in AOE areas I'll do upwards of 18-20k. On fights where creatures live long enough to use Black Arrow, I can do 13k+ sustained DPS, and if I happen to get a lucky dose of LNL procs I'll do 15-16k.
I'm a BM Hunter at heart, but I've been unable to replicate the DPS of Survival at the moment, regardless of reforging, regardless of rotation, which is unfortunate.
If you don't want to feel underpowered, I suggest taking a look at my talent spec and using it…you'll move near the top of the DPS charts in most circumstances once you understand the Surv rotation.
BM is above MM? I disagree on that, but it could be the fact I'm a great MM hunter. Now that my gear is leveling out, AOE yes is trash for me. But on a single target boss fight, my MM hunter is back upwards of 10-11K. Survi is for sure the head of the rooost, one spec usually is.
And as Tak was stating.. he was feeling underpowered as a MM hunter. So he and I know that the survi tree is stronger, doesn't mean it's wrong by anymeans. I actually was a Survi hunter at heart and faught to go to MM, so I think I might be making the switch back to my home blood. But not until TM's first raid, I want to give some of our other hunters a day in the sun, lol.
*shrugs* The guild I'm in isn't complaining about my dps and keep asking me to join in on heroics, so I must be doing something right. I'll keep poking at it and think things will pick up for MM with gear scaling.
Well, for Heroics, MM is fine, but it cannot keep up with Survival right now...and this doesn't mean Survival should be nerfed, it means MM needs to be slightly buffed, same goes for BM.
For the time being, my point was, if you remain MM, you will be underpowered, as it's not as strong as an alternative spec you can use.

It's entirely possible MM has scaled better than BM to this point, I do not know as I've not used MM since the very start, and at the time, it was beneath both BM and Survival...and even now, it's beneath Survival by quite a wide margin.
