Tranquilizing Shot?

[#876]

Has anyone come across a "list" of player abilities that can be taken off by Tranquilizing Shot? I did a bit of googling but once again there are people saying contradicting things. I wonder if anyone has come across a "official no-joke" list of things which can be removed from an enemy player, or an addon which alerts you. I have announcer but (I might be wrong), I have never come across any alerts saying I did so and so with Tranquilizing Shot.

I was thinking at least with that I could go to Durator and find other classes I can test it out on, to make a more concrete list (though having an addon tell me I've done something good would be good 😛 Perhaps I haven't actually hit Tranquilizing Shot at the right time or something not sure…).

I've been too much into PEW PEW while in Arena to even take notice is a hunter has taken away any of my blessings.

I mean how awesome would it be to take away Mage's ice block 😛 I know Tranquilizing Shot can't do that… But surely Lava Breath from our Corehounds should?!

I configured a separate SBF buff frame for dispellable buffs using filters. I found it handy for choosing when to use Tranq shot, as well as knowing when and if the targeted buff(s) had gotten dispelled.

I've pared the list down a little since, but if you d/l my UI and drag over the SatrinaBuffFrame saved variables, the configured frame and filters are in there.

There may be another way to go about it, but that's what I came up with.

Thanks Gar will check it out 🙂 I started making a list, I didn't realize there were so many things which could be dispelled. I tested it on pally and priests so far - but yeah deciding when to use it is crucial since it costs 20 focus.

If you look at Oonoes blogspot, you'll find that he wrote mini-guides on how to take on the different classes in pvp and he included which buffs to tranq.

Does it really mater that much?

I mean, there's so much going on, that I can hardly follow such details , even with any given addon.

To keep it simple (relevantly harder for the target), I weave tranquilizing shot every 3-4 turns, because in most cases whether you are dispelling a self buff/shield, or a raid buff, or a temporary state buff, or a hot.

You never would be using it for nothing in practice :P.

..and the target will attempt to refresh hots/buffs/shields, so you don't give up weaving dispels.

Frost Mage: Tranq their shield off or you're in for a hard fight.

Paladin: Tranq Hand of Freedom, Avenging Wrath

Druids: Tranq Tranquility, Mark of the Wild

Shaman: Tranq Earth Shield

These are only a few of the things you can and should tranq shot.

This is what I use to help me with what I can tranq or not:  http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/dispelborder.aspx

Thank you for the input 🙂 Will be checking out that blog + addon. I'm gradually learning a few things that can be dispelled by playing BGs and killing alli in TB.  Though mage frost tomb? I don't think that can be dispelled, or did you mean the armor.

Oonoes here, thanks for the plug!

Anyway, tranqing debuffs is a terribly important mechanic for hunters, and knowing what to tranq is key to finding success in both battlegrounds and in the arena.

There are a couple ways to track what sort of things you are able to tranq on a given target. What I've done on my user interface is moved the target frame to slightly below where my character stands on my screen using Xperl, and xperl's integrated enemy buff tracker highlights buffs that are able to be dispelled. (example ) Its not always a great idea to tranq a target to no buffs before you start dpsing them though, because it requires a ton of focus to do it. Instead, try to identify buffs that are very bad for you based on their spell effects, and make an effort to get rid of those instead.

To a certain extent, you can anticipate when these buffs are coming and have the tranq already in the air when the enemy player is getting ready to cast it. For example, vs. ret paladins, if you have them in the middle of a freezing trap and you're building distance between you, he's almost certainly going to cast hand of freedom on himself. Look for the red circle at his feet, or if you're feeling cocky, wait about 2 seconds after the root from your trap has activated, then throw the tranq. The only real way to understand what sort of buffs are mandatory to get rid of is through experience, but as a general guide, damage shields (like priest/mage barriers), enrage effects (druid Savage roar, warrior damage cooldown), and hand of freedom type effects are the ones that need to be gotten rid of as soon as possible.

Of course, in the arena, its a bit of a different ballgame, but keep practicing and you'll figure it out.

Also, MSBT (miks scrolling battle text i think) gives a notification when you successfully dispel something, and theres a shaman purge mod that announces it in chat for what its worth.

Ha, this post is pretty good, I'm going to put it on my blog.

Anyway, good luck out there, thanks for the mention.

Thanks Oonoes! It's great to see you here! Thanks for helping out the hunter community! Everytime I see your name I think "Glyph of Raptor Strike will save your life." lol.

I had to replace my Hunterfocusbar Addon after this last patch as it isnt working for me now, but what I found to replace it is Js' Hunter Bar (or something to that extent) and on PvE mobs it throws up an easy to see icon when the target has something up that can be Tranq'd. Havent tried in PVP yet but I assume it works the same there. Finding it very useful so far =)

Mal, I think I've tried using JS Hunterbar for that very reason, but I didn't like the big Focus bar it gives- am I thinking of the same AddOn? Have you found a way to use it without the Focus bar?

I use a personalized version of Gar's UI, which utilized Shadowed Unit Frames, and the Focus bar is plenty for my needs.

Interested to hear more because I know I'm missing opportunities to use Tranq on trash and in solo encounters.

I love having Tranq Shot in battlegrounds. Fun times tranqing off a Mages shield or a Pallies Avenging Wrath , etc.

Ozolin, you can resize the focus bar in the options. The default was enormous! I just scaled it down a lot, but i'm fairly sure it took awhile to find that option lol. It's not as clean as the hunterfocusbar was, but the tranq shot notification AND the trap timer notification alone make it my new fav addon.

And it DOES indeed function in PvP. Joined my first Arena Team 3v3 last night, and I realized how invaluable Tranq is there! JS' makes it much easier to keep track of that.
