Heya Gar, I was looking at your BM pvp gear and noticed that you are gemming for Agi. I apologize if you explained this in another post somewhere - but could you explain your choice here as opposed to going all out Arp?
Thanks

Hi Tepoztlan (hunter formerly known as Auntie) 😉

I like agility mainly for the added crit it provides. It also scales with Kings (which I use in arena) and it gives a few other minor benefits; e.g., dodge and armor.

Most min/max BM PvPers will go all-out attack power, but I don't use my pet to blow stuff up, so the added AP isn't as much of a benefit for me. I prefer to use my pet more for control and assistance, while I do the bulk of the work.

My itemization is not typically what you'd find on a lot of BM PvPers, but it works for me. 🙂

Lastly, not sure if you meant ap when you typed Arp, but I must mention that armor pen is not a good stat for PvP hunters. It doesn't translate to the pet, plus it doesn't buff Arcane Shot at all, which is an important part of our PvP priority.

Hmm..

I have some questions about the difference between MM or SV and BM...

I play Survival hunter at the moment, but what are the pros and cons playing a BM?

Ok, your pet has more abilities to survive and you could tame some useful pets witht eh ultimate.

Also your pet is able to deal a nice amount of dmg...

I heard BM is for real burst, I thought that was the Survival role before!?!?

Interesting, I wish AP gave me doge…..

Out of curiosity – if you are wanting to do most of the work yourself – why not go MM or SV?

BM pets = 'blow stuff up' no?  not being argumentative – just wanting the whole picture. 😉

Well, I definitly thought the same! I just can't explain it on English. 😡

<– German guy.

My problem is, I think I can't handle all the abilities you have as a bm…

I don't use to click abilities except pvp trinket, food, rapid fire + troll haste, aspectmacro, pets roar of *mana restor thing*…

psycot,

All three specs are capable of good burst, it's just that BM's burst is on the longest timer. Of the three specs, MM is bringing it the hardest right now in PvP. SV is beastly during Lock and Load procs, but that too has a fairly long (internal) cooldown.

Overall, I feel Marksmanship is the best PvP spec right now. The burst is insane, Readiness provides outstanding survivability when used with defensive abilities, and Silencing Shot just wreaks havoc on casters.

I play BM because:

A) I like it. 🙂

B) I arena with another DPS.

C) I'm pretty good at it.

A Beast Master is the hardest type of hunter to lock down. This is one of the many reasons I like the spec, and since I don't arena with a healer, being as slippery as possible is important for me in arena.

The strengths of the SV spec:

  • High crit
  • Crazy burst from Lock and Load
  • Non-armor-mitigated fire damage
  • Mana replenishment
  • Wyvern Sting

SV is a great PvP spec, but I give the edge to MM just because Silencing Shot and Readiness are so damn awesome.

The formula for PvE is pretty straightforward. As long as you build your hunter properly and get your shot priority and fight mechanics down, you'll do fine.

PvP is another story... When doing battle with other players, it's all about what works best for you. Unlike PvE, every encounter is going to be different, so which ever spec provides you with the most success - go with that one. 😉

Auntie and Psycot,

As I'd mentioned, I play BM because I like it, and because it provides me with more survivability in arena. In BGs I like both, but if I had to pick one, I prefer MM just a tad. In arena however, BM works much better for me, as I don't play with a healer.

Apart from having access to any of my pets, I like BM for the increased freedom, mobility and survival.

Wow, Garwulf... thank you very very much for your awesome post.

I just need 1 or 2... or 3 more slots... Quattrospec not Dualspec!

Ich have a MM spec vor PVE at the moment and my SV PVP spec.

I think I just save my sv spec and overwrite the mm spec to test both: MM and BM

I read some of your bm guides on your site and are really interested in the Chimeara!

more than 70% slow uptime plus slow shot (remember, German guy running German client^^)

would give nearly an awesome 100% uptime of 50percent slow!

5 seconds slow - 7 seconds cooldown with telents.

after these 5 seconds:

3 seconds slow - 8 seconds cooldown

after these 3 seconds my pet casts another 5 seconds slow and so on...

Maybie I sometimes got 1 second without debuff when I enable AUTO slow on my pet...
