Could you link the quote? I was able to one-shot lvl 81 twilight dragons in Hyjal with Aimed Shot crits yesterday.

Does anyone have a build for MM for me to try out ?
Loronar has a pretty solid one. Granted he's a night elf, but hey, gotta fault him for something. :-p
Tak, how is the new rotation running for you? I'm still trying to work out the timing on my aimed shots. I don't have enough raiding time, methinks. Keep getting hauled off to my healer.
I've been trying MM but really couldn't get the hang of the shot priority. I do well with the dummies but lose it with parties. I need more MM for Dummies stuff.

A dummies guide to MM would be good - but I the best way to get the hang of it is to practice practice practice (in parties). You can read 10 pages on MM, but that's a guide someone else wrote and the way they play, their macros/equipment all differ. So just need to go with the flow and learn new tricks, positioning, moving, timing etc and you'll be out dpsing everyone by far 😉 Before I totally sucked at PVP but now like, Rogues would own me in seconds - after many nights of PVP'ing I can kill them (though maybe the rogues I have been up against weren't the skilled of the bunch). Still saying that, I don't think I'd go MM for PVP just because I prefer the playstyle of BM - and I haz no fancy mouse with a gazillion buttons.

Who was it that messed around with another magic well that brought back the Burning Legion? Oh right, blood elves. 😛 Racial grudges aside, here's my spec.

As a side note, if you are reading DPS on targetting dummies, take it with a grain of salt. Raiding dummies never fall below 80% health (or even 100%), so that means the Careful Aim talent will always be in effect, giving you massive crits from Aimed Shot.

It's true that PvP with the rotation I introduced is very clunky, especially because Aimed Shot will not cast with Aspect of the Fox. I usually just open up with Aimed for burst and go back to the Arcane-dependent rotation, using Aimed only when Master Marksman triggers.
Probably the best boss to practice your rotation at the moment is Baron Ashbury in Shadowfang Keep. As hunters, you normally wouldn't have to worry about interrupting unless you're specifically asked to use Silencing Shot, so just DPS away. The only thing that will break the flow is Asphyxiate.
For the fight, I normally open up with Misdirect, Rapid Fire, Aimed Shot, and a pair of Steady Shot. This allows me to benefit from haste on both shots, whose cast time are affected by it. Repeat the Aimed and pair of Steadies until you see Baron reaching 80% health. You always want to end with a pair of Steadies so you will have enough focus for the next step. (PS. I've seen my DPS shoot up to 19k for the first few seconds because of the benefit from Careful Aim, before tapering off later.)
If you have a trinket that has an on-use effect, pop it now (mine is Skardyn's Grace). Fire off Serpent Sting and Chimera Shot right away, then go back to a pair of Steadies and Aimed until Chimera is off cooldown. Sometimes I may include a third Steady if I want to save up a bit more focus. In the chance that Baron uses Asphyxiate in the middle of your rotation, you always want Chimera to be your priority shot when coming down so Serpent Sting doesn't fall off. Go back to usual business.
How can you change this? In movement intensive fights, substitute Aimed with a pair of Arcane Shots, but feel free to use Aimed again if you are standing still. If you can, time your movements for when you can fire off instant shots.
(I usually don't bother using Readiness unless it's in a raid.)
I hope that was useful.

I'm pretty much in the same situation. I haven't had time to work Aimed Shot into the rotation as I've been off doing stuff on my Retribution Paladin. The guild loves to have him along for his spot healing abilities. I have the only Ret Pallie in the the guild that is currently raid capable. I'm thinking by the time I'm able to work on my Hunter, Aimed Shot will have gotten nerfed and it won't matter anymore.
I've pvp'd some on my Hunter, but you don't really get to work on a rotation there. It is fun critting the druids, warlocks and mages for 50k Aimed Shots though.
I bit of revenge for all the frustration they have caused me since Cata was released.
Can someone comment as to the prime glyphs necessary now on a MM spec for hunter troll level 85?
Elitist Jerks are clear that Steady shot is one of the glyphs and the writeup falls apart from there as to whether to include Rapid Fire,/Aimed shot and Kill Shot/Chimera.
Based on my stats and gear I'm pretty low on Crit% 15.78% and Haste bonus of only 7.62% with a focus cast time of 1.83 which is pretty darn slow.
Any suggestions of which 3 glyphs to use? I know the discussion is Kill shot for the last 20% vs Chimera for the first 80% of the battle but I just need some good guidance
Thanks

With regards to glyphs, I believe the previous preferred combination was Steady/Arcane/Kill. It's obvious that Arcane should be replaced with Aimed if it's going to be the new focus dump (for now until testing is done after the planned nerf from Blizzard).
The question is then whether to use Kill Shot glyph. Elitist Jerks actually does mention its preference, but it's hidden in the later sections of their guide in the middle of all their theorycrafting numbers. Without making you dig for it, I will say in short that Rapid Fire currently holds an edge over Kill Shot. According to EJ's theorycrafting, speccing into the Termination talent conflicts with the extra Kill Shot because of the additional generated focus, which becomes a waste. Additionally, haste actually looks more attractive right now in order to maximize the number of Aimed Shots you can fire in a fight. This is an advantage for us because Rapid Recuperation also reduces our Rapid Fire cooldown, giving Marksmanship that edge in DPS.

Thanks, I'll head over to the female dwarf and run the numbers on Steady, Aimed and Rapid Fire. I have Chimera, Steady and Kill shot on now so I'll try a few combinations. The RF Glyph just does not seem to do much to improve the cooldown on my previous runs. Also the Chimera Glyph only improves the CD from 10 to 9 sec so it only helps if you shoot right after the CD a 10% potential improvement but only if you are right on top of it.
I've already improved my MM spec by about 1500 just with Glyphs, a few gems, reforging, and a few new items. I just need to pick up some better gear in the 340's to really see some improvement.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but theres a nice new post on WHU about mm rotation:

I love that site!

I haven't gotten any heroic runs in since the patch yet, so I havent been able to fully check out how much my dps has increased. I did do some testing on a target dummy and I know my dps is up by 1500 to 2k there.
I'm sorry to see SV dipping that low in dps. I was hoping SV would be close to MM in dps.
Anyone gotten to fully test out how BM is doing?
I have been marks forever and in heroics on bosses i can get my dps up to 17k and im in pvp gear and still not greatly geard. so right now MM kicks but
Hi folks, kinda new to posting here and want to throw my 2cents in:
While I know that mathematically SV dps got nerfed, I've stayed with it since 4.0.6 and all the hotfixes and my dps is higher than ever in heroics and raids. I'm not getting 50k+ crits like MM will with Aimed Shot, but whether that's a problem for you or not is going to depend strongly on the makeup of your raid group and who you're fighting against. MM will be doing more single-target dps but SV will likely be higher in any AoE situations, from what I've read from other hunters. I've not tried BM spec yet, though that's my off-spec.
In the last raid I was in (BoT-Halfus) I was out dpsing the MM hunter in our group for much of the fight, though we flip-flopped a few times over the course of about 5 attempts, and that's not even an AoE heavy fight. I'm pretty happy with SV post 4.0.6 especially considering all the "sky is falling" talk that was going on in the blogosphere about the nerfs that SV got.
I'm not a theorycrafter and I hate math, lol, but I wanted to share my experience, limited as it may be.
FWIW, I seem to currently be being paired with an SV hunter in 350 gear, and Niika (MM) in 334 gear. On trash, i'm about 1k behind her, but on boss fights, I am at par, to slightly above her. It mirrors what I am seeing, and we are a duo to recon with with our rogue. We can cc pretty well.
Not exactly sure which is currently doing better dps (sv or mm) since the aoth buff/aimed shot nerf but personally I'm mostly raiding as sv. This is because most of the time the fights either require aoe (chogall, halfus hc etc.) or a lot of movement and I struggle to maintain the mm rotation whilst moving a lot (think atramedes). The only fight where I sometimes switch the mm is chim because for dps is it ridiculously easy (spread out, shoot, stack, shoot, spread out rinse repeat pretty much covers it:P) however I don't really see much of a dps increase, maybe because I'm not so used to the rotation though.
So does anyone know which is actually top on dps? I hoping BM might have made a comeback although obviously it won't be very useful for target switching fights or nef, where I often find my pet attempting to stand in lava. I just would love to show off my spirit beasts etc. in raids:D
