I would like to discuss where this term came from, and why? I've always wondererd but never came down to the actual origin. Was it because of Legolas from Lord of the Rings and everyone rolling a Night Elf hunter for most resemblance?
I don't remember where it began, but all I know is when someone finds out I play WoW and they ask me what class I am, I say "hunter!" and they laugh. For example, this one guy I talked to the other day at a barbecue happened to be drunk and started talkin about his Undead rogue (go figure right?), he asked me what class I was, I told him hunter, he laughed and said "Yeah my 12 year old brother has a hunter too..."
I couldn't help but laugh because I know everyone looks down on hunters, yet in actuality I don't know why. So, whether it be a simple answer or complicated one, can someone explain this to me?

The term "huntard" orginated back in vanilla WoW. Hunters are considered easy to play, but difficult to master. Being easy to play means we attract the "baddies". Those players who refuse to or just aren't smart enough to learn how to play the class properly. These are the people that do stuff like:
(1) leave your pet on agressive in instance runs
(2) leave your pets "growl" ability on in instance runs and refuse to turn it off OR even better dont know how to turn it off
(4) improper gear even after having it pointed out to them (strength, spell damage, spirit)
(5) don't know anything about traps and how to use them
The list can go on. Its basic knowledge stuff that some people just dont pick up on or refuse to. There have been so many of these types that we are now all stereotyped as a "huntard". Even someone with the experience behind them such as myself finds he still has to prove himself to others because of this. I've just learned to grin and bear it, letting my actions speak for me. I'm confident in my abilities to play the class and learn. My advice to anyone worrying about being a "huntard", make sure you are constantly learning about the class. I've been at it since vanilla Wow and still learn new stuff.
