Was hoping to get some discussion going as to how other hunters out there see our class as it seems Blizzard themselves don't really seem to know how to define us.
Are we a ranged caster and if so why don't we fall in line stat wise with other ranged casters?
Are we a melee fighter now with some of the stat changes that have taken place with the advent of MoP?
Are we more of a hybrid caster / melee?
To me we seem too fit more of the hybrid as we're the only class that uses weapons both in melee range and from range. Would love to hear ideas from other hunters out there.

I think Blizzard has always viewed Hunters as somewhat of a hybrid class. Our damage has always been a mix of physical and spell - relying heavily upon weapon damage.
Since the move to focus as our resource system, I see the shift going more in favor of a traditional "melee" class, especially with the absence of our minimum range.
I felt more like a caster back when we had a more predictable resource system and were much less viable with melee up in our face. We still feel like a hybrid class, but the hunter play style feels more like a Rogue now than it does a Mage.
I actually think we're probably as well defined as ever in terms of how the class "should play", although I still miss our melee abilities and AotM.
I think I see it leaning more towards the caster side. Now the we no longer carry weapons other than ranged, we're more like a caster, like a Mage. Whether the target is at full range or in your face, you are using the same shots/spells. They blink away, we disengage. I'll qualify this by saying I've never played a Mage so, I may be all wet. I'm not sure it's a spell/physical issue as much as it is the type of mechanics the class use to do damage. Food for thought anyway
