Looks like we've been graced with new notes for the upcoming patch.
I'm not really surprised by any of it, but I'm alarmed at how much they nerfed Survival. 25% reduction in damage done by 2 of our key abilities along with the nerf to Serpent Spread makes me want to cry. I would have agreed with a 10% reduction, or even 15%, but 25% is overkill and I'm starting to feel like this is a knee jerk reaction to whining similar to the one they had with BM spec back in early Wrath.
The nerf to Serpent Spread is also a huge hit to Survival's viability in some encounters. AoE damage in general has been nerfed for many classes, and with the loss of Volley the Serpent Spread talent is one of the few ways hunters have to supply AoE damage in a meaningful fashion. I understand it's a bit overpowered in PVP, but i don't think it's a problem in PVE given the cost in Focus for us to use it. The only way I can see this nerf not being overdone is if the application of the Serpent Spread effect is intelligent like Chain Heal is and it looks for targets that don't already have the dot on them to apply it to before overwriting already applied dots.
I understand that they're buffing BM and Marks, and that's great! Sadly I really enjoy Survival and I don't enjoy Marks much at all. Which if these nerfs are going to affect us as much as they seem to be set to means I'll end up pigeon holed into a spec I don't enjoy playing, which again feels like the entire history of Hunters atm…
