I tried to log in last night, only to find that my password wasn't working. Ive never gotten the authenticator because to be honest, I just dinged a bit ago and still only wear blue and green items lol. I never thought someone would actually take the time to take a poor lowbie account such as my own. But it happened.
I checked my email, there were two emails from Blizzard stating there had been a request to change account email to “b***@yahoo.com,” and the follow up email of a request to change password. So, all in all someone account ganked me. Only two people have used my account, which was my girlfriend, and my younger cousin who has since quit from WoW. Im almost positive it was neither of them. Almost, that is, since my cousin has done some shady shit before, but its not like he'd confess to it anyway.
Anyhow, last night I filled out the required online forms alerting Blizzard to help me out, and they've “been in the process of getting my account back” all night and day. Anyone else ever have this happen, and if so how long does it usually take to get your account back?
Thanks.

Maybe a week? I haven't had to go through it before either, well… Until today, but my getting hacked wasn't as drastic as yours, I merely lost all the gear on my 3 main characters =/
I gotta get a new authenticator, had to take my old one off due to some stupid bull shit with it not working right anymore.

We currently have two accounts in guild that have been hacked. I reported it two days ago; the tickets are still out. It seems whenever there is a major expansion of some sort, this happens like crazy. I have a level in guild to bump characters down to, that has no guild bank access whatsoever. I hate bouncing them from the guild, because eventually the person comes back, and I don't want them to be without a home.
OK now onto the funny stuff. I watch where these gold farmers are farming and hit up the areas they are working on. Our two have been in Black Temple for two days now, farming ore and herbs and I”m sure cloth and drops. So… i'm making a mint, and our guild bank is doing pretty nicely.

I got an email from Blizzard earlier this week about the Gawker hack. Blizzard suggested to change my password just in case I used the same email and password in the Gawker sites. (Because it turned out that many people used *the same* password for *all* their accounts in the leaked list of usernames and passwords — some passwords were common words and even the word “password.”).
My advice is to use an authenticator, to use a strong password, and to never, ever let anyone use your account. Avoid leveling and gold “services” too.

I got hacked back at the start of WotLK. My advice, GET AN AUTHENTICATOR! They will save your ass. Also change your password every so often. Another safe guard I took is I have a special email account that I only used/use for WoW.
As for recovery, it took about a week and a half for me to get my characters stuff back.

I wake up like an hour ago, head down to the computer and wammo! I got my stuff back.
Gratz! Now go make sure you have some good safeguards in place! If it happend once it will happen again if you don't safeguard against it. The guild leader of a former guild I was in got her account hacked three times before she wised up and upgraded her safety guards. Pleas, PLEASE don't be her!

Thank for the inputs. I'm pretty sure the people who head this department are gone for the weekend, so as of yet I'm still locked out. You know how hard it is to have a lazy day with no WoW to play when youre bored? Ive never realized the emptiness before.
You could try calling them. A friend of mine once suggested to me to sit it out (at least 30 minutes) and you'll get results. You'll get your account (or any other concerns fixed) in hours rather than days.
Just a suggestion though and I hope you get your account back soon.

I logged on the other afternoon to see a naked Darrwyn looking at me from the Server screen. I 'uh oh'ed and went on in and sure enough everything was gone. Gear, gold, goodies in the bank. I checked my other toons on Tichondrius and they had all been plundered. Strangely enough, toons on other servers had not been.
I immediately put a ticket in.
I then logged out, went to the account management part of the Battle.net site and changed my password. Then I went to email wrote a detailed letter to the security email address.
Now some history, I had been getting some emails from “noreply@Blizzard.com” asking me to verify my account payment details. I went to the site and sure enough, it looked genuine. I went so far as putting my credit card details in the required field, then I thought, 'Why would Blizzard do this?' So I wiped the information on the page and closed the page down. I then wrote to a specific person at Blizzard I had previous dealings with and asked them to verify the request for information.
I felt I had done all I could do.
I logged back onto Darrwyn feeling forlorn. I perked up when I saw there was a reply to my ticket. In that short space of time, my account had been investigated and completely restored. Something like 10 minutes had passed since submitting my ticket!
Was I happy with Blizzard's service? ABSOLUTELY!!!
My only suggestion for improvement was for them to tell people to visit the mailbox because there was all my gear, on about 20 mails from Blizzard GMs. I went to the mailbox to check it on my bank toon, to see if any auctions had sold/expired, and discovered the mails form the GMs by accident.
Was I happy with Blizzard's service? ABSOLUTELY!!!
I did receive a reply to my email requesting verification of financial details too. No, it wasn't Blizzard.
Am I happy with Blizzard's service? ABSOLUTELY!!!
I do regard myself very lucky with the timing, especially since the site itself quotes 2-4 days and I am on the other side of the world.
Remember everyone, Blizzard NEVER ask for passwords, and remember to always seek verification of any emails asking for information.

I personally haven't ever been haked, but I have seen many friends have it done too. Indo in the last 2 weeks included on that. The turn around rate really depends on time of day, week , and whats going on in game. The wait on the phone sucks, but it really is the fastest way to get answer.
Hope it all turned out well.
