I see now a couple of us who have been wondering if we were doing something wrong, that we felt our DPS was lacking. As I keep looking at sites to see how I might improve, I came upon a real interesting item by chance. Over at noxxic.com, they have done a DPS simulation on a Patchwork-type fight with all DPS classes in 496 gear. It really backs up what some of you have been saying about how strong some of the other classes are doing. It was a good news/bad news kind of thing for hunters. While there's always room for improvement, I guess I'm not so far off after all

I've working on the target dummies and comapring blink strike and lynx rush on BM, along with MoC with MM. If I get everything right, BM ekes out ahead but, that's what I find, that BM is more unforgiving. The more I practice the rotation on BM, I do see improvement. Blink strike was a bit behind LR. I think the Noxxic chart gave me a better perspective for base DPS purposes, simulations don't account for skill so "your own results may vary".

Covered this in your last post and Takaas verified it. You will play better in the spec you like and are most comfortable with.
That chart shows a couple things.
1. Hunters are a far far away from being overpowered as many thought-well duh.
2. The spread between our 'top spec' of BM and our 'broken specs' of MM, Surv is Eighteen Hundred DPS. Big deal. We're still in the mid to low end of DPS. Gee that's news.
Takaas, s'far as I know has been playing this game since forever and plays MM and Surv well so it makes sense his DPS is going to be say on par with a decent BM player or in the case of a lousy BM player such as yours truly, ahead. Skill matters.
BM is not a forgiving playstyle. It seems and is yapped about as being easy but it ain't. It's clunky with Kill Command-that's not a shot, it's a pet spell. So if Fido isn't on the target, or gets CC'd, well you're hooped.
Sure we have this ginormous burst ZOMG macro (which I like a lot)-seemingly about to be torpedoed by Blizzards Bestial Wrath nerf in the new patch but hell every other spec knows this (PvP wise) and unless they have the IQ of a peanut can counter it. In a PvE situation we are better than MM or Surv atm, but not by much and unless you're really good at BM which I'm not , you will lose more in DPS trying to play 'the spec' than playing the one you play best. DPS spread simply isn't that large to warrant irritating yourself trying to play a spec you don't like.
All of that being said I think Hunters are in a better spot than in Cata-particularly in PvP. Harder to play but better. Course so are a lot of the other classes. Blizzard surely does seem to have a problem balancing Hunters.
