7. Pick trinkets with +resilience for both slots. It doesn't matter if you have that “great” pve trinket from X-boss/ Darkmoon Faire/whatever , since damage mitigation is much more important than damage dealing at start.

I prefer to avoid medallion trinkets, due to fact that it is already too late when I remember to use them 95% of the time icon_razz.

5. Gem for 100-200 Spell Penetration once you are at 3k resilience.
Vital for all specs for avoiding resists.  There are several guides that
cover the various specs.

-No less than 200 spell penetration will upgrade you from “can't kill/won't kill” compartment to “amg, pwned !”.

-Picking the cloak enchant and acquiring 3 blue gems will get 220, which is almost perfect.

That's a lot of great advice guys, thanks a ton. I will probably look into the trinkets first, and then work on getting gear as it comes. Since I'm more of a casual PvP'r, this gives us all a great place to start, thanks all for the great tips, and keep them coming!

Speaking of PvP gear, I'm very new to PvP and have absolutely no PvP gear whatsoever, so just go in my PvE gears that are in my sig's link to armory, which is really good gear, but not great when it comes to PvP, kind of a wet paper back in some regards. Is there a good place to start, like what is a good gear priority when it comes to PvP'n?

I was not able to get to your armory to check your gear but the first thing I bought with my honor points was http://www.wowhead.com/item=64793 which saved my behind many times and after that I started replacing my lowest ilvl PVE gear first and kept replacing until I had all PVP gear. Once I got to the point where all my PVE gear left to be replaced was the same ilvl, I started replacing first the ones with the least desirable secondary stats (mastery, haste) and left the ones with more crit to the end. Also remember to reforge your hit to %5 since all players are the same level and you won't need the %8 percent anymore. If you want to do some arena I highly recommend an addon called Gladius. It will tell which classes you're up against as soon as the match starts(unless enemy player is using stealth and it will tell you their class as soon as they unstealth). There's another addon called Healers Have to Die which will put a red cross over a healer as soon as it detects who the healer is (it detects the healer by looking for certain spells used by healers).

Here's a question for our PVP community. Do you guys use steady shot or cobra shot when going against plate wearing players? I'm MM and I know I should use steady for the Aimed Shot proc, for the haste after 2 consecutive SS, and for the bleed damage but SS does like %50 the damage that Cobra shot does since CS bypasses armor and I don't know if %50 extra damage on CS is worth dropping SS from my rotation. I wouldn't drop it completely but I was thinking of maybe doing 2 SS and then CS until I have to reapply the hast buff again. What do you guys use when fighting plates? Thanks!

Thanks nestore! I forgot to update my armory link when I swapped servers, thanks for letting me know!

Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Badge of Conquest

Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Insignia of Conquest

is the ideal starter combo, prioritizing resilience and damage.

Keep in mind that if you are an engineer, you will use

Synapse Springs (stupid tooltip not updated, it's agility proc for us), and instead of  Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Badge of Conquest you may either use Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Emblem of Tenacity or Bloodthirsty Gladiator's Medallion of Tenacity , simply because, use stuff shares cooldowns in PvP.

With 2 trinkets alone, you gain a sweet chunk of 602 resilience.

And not as big difference as trinket choices would do, but you may add

Greater Inscription of Vicious Agility

Arcanum of Vicious Agility

to the bottom of “to buy” list.

And one good news from PTR

  • Honor is now purchasable from the Justice Commodities Vendor at 250 Honor per 375 Justice.
  • Justice is now purchasable from the Honor Commodities Vendor at 250 Justice per 375 Honor.
  • Conquest is now purchasable from the Valor vendor at 250 Conquest per 250 Valor.

which will make it easier to get weapons and upgrades to starter set

I started with http://www.wowhead.com/item=64793 for the awesome extra survivability it provides. After that I decided to upgrade my melee weapon first because I just HAD TO have http://www.wowhead.com/item=55057 because it can make the difference between a win or a loss plus I didn't want to put that on my PVE weapon and lose the 130Agi enchant.

I made a concious decision to forego raiding and pugging dungeons, so I regemmed everything I could in my PVE set to get my resilience as high as I could. I found it immediately helped me to survive longer.

Then do battleground after battleground after battleground. Forget about whether you are effective or dieing alot, even winning or losing… each bg you compete in will award some HP… obviously if you're on a winning side you accumulate HP faster.

I replaced my lowest ilevel pve gear first, and gemmed it for resilience. Eventually I had all pvp gear. You'll find as your survivability improves, your skills will improve too, as you will be staying alive longer on the quality of your gear, allowing you more time to fine tune your reactions and practice what you need to do. My suggestion is to get the best gear available, don't start cheap with an aim to replace… at 85 it's only a few wins from one piece to another, though it is a much longer road while levelling.

I was honor capped for the first time (I wasn't doing instances, just questing between bgs) at level 53 and bought the heirloom weapon. Although replaced by the level 70 weapon earlier than I thought, it meant I had the best damage available from 53 to 69, and that is important for hunters. I still had enough HP at 60 and 70 to kit myself out with all the best available legacy gear.

Despite whatever spec you prefer, I suggest you begin pvping as BM, as your pet is your best mate and hits harder when he comes to your rescue than pets in the other specs do.

Cheers,

D

On a side note, I had someone give me the tip that made perfect sense when you think about it, but when choosing gear for PvP and deciding what to get first and what not, look for the gear that will give you double resilience bonuses to start out with, like a gem bonus extra, I found that most helpful. I think its like shoulders, head, legs, feet, or something like that order icon_smile

That's a good point Drach. PVP gear socket bonus is always resilence, so gem for the bonus and get extra resilience.
