In respect to the utilization of Aspect of the Fox two part. First in BG's how often do you as a BM hunter actually use this ability and secondly in Arena the same. My limited experience finds me using this ability little in BG's and less so in most Arena. Please keep in mind I'm now in only my 3rd month of PVP and 3rd week in Arena and suck. In BG's it seems I can kite fine without the need for this ability but am I missing something?

As I understand this ability I gain 5 focus if I get tagged melee, which I try to avoid and I do have a macro for Cobra/AotF if needed.

In Arena, the only time I've stayed in AotF and still do is , say,  if we're down to a 2 v 1 situation against a BDK or any other stupidly hard to kill class and I'm CC'ing on the move so I don't get tagged while the partner melees them and I'm plinking away with the pet not attacking. If I do the 1st part correctly, which I of course do not all the time yet, then I find it easier to simply stay in AotH and do a quick swicth to the Cobra/AotF if needed. As always any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I try to stay away from fox as much as possible, I reforge about 200 crit rating to haste to make up for that 5 focus regen in melee, now in 4.3.2 Hawk gives 35% more Attack Power I think it was 35% more so we would need to stay away from fox EVEN MORE! I always see noob hunters running around with fox constantly up, it makes me laugh.

I usually only use Fox for kiting (so I can fire off Steady Shots while moving.)

Yeah Takass, that's about where I'm at. Just use it for cobra whilst trying to save my lil but sexy dwarven ass.

Typically I don't laugh at 'noob' hunters given I am one Wilbo. Maybe someday when I become a world reknowned Hunter that minstrels sing madrigals about I'll ridicule em. Nah, I'll stick to mocking DK's and Dicks.

I never use AotF in BGs, and only rarely in Arena.  In a BG I am more likely to fire a cobra shot than think if foxing.  We are all about DPS and burning down the enemy as fast as possible.  This will never happen in AF.  The only time I use it is, as Agio pointed out, is if I'm one v one against something like a blood dk and my Bestial Wrath/Trinket is on cool-down and I want to keep him slowed, iced, scattered until it is off cool-down so I can burn him to the ground.  I want to be topped off when it comes off cool-down.  You wouldn't use it if BW/Trink were not on cool down because you have tons of focus when you pop BW.  The above assumes you have the 4 piece 5% focus regen.

BTW, I personally would not ever reforge crit to haste.  If you want haste, reforge mastery or excess hit, but the amount of regen you might get will hardly be noticeable from the haste.  BM's don't need the haste - especially with the Focus Fire talent, and you and your pet will benefit more from the crit.

Hello!

I'm new to this forum but definitely not new to the hunter class. I currently PvP casually with guildies in the 1900 or so arena bracket and have very much experience putting arrows in other PvPers' knees! In arenas and battlegrounds alike, you will almost NEVER be able to stand still and just shoot; thus, it seems like Fox is the way to go. However, you lose quite a bit of damage by sitting in it. On the contrary, you can't just sit in Aspect of the Hawk and not cast when you're running!

Any and all PvP hunters should have a couple certain macros that will let you:

1 - Pew pew your instant abilities with Aspect of the Hawk up (even better with the 35% buff!)

2 - Cast steady/cobra shot while moving!

This will suit you in any and all circumstances! You don't have to switch up your rotation, and you can do a lot of damage on the move! How do you do this without constantly switching, you ask? Well it is actually quite simple: you make OP macros:

Shared Macros for all specs!

#showtooltip Arcane Shot
/startattack
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Hawk, null
/cast Arcane Shot

#showtooltip Cobra Shot
/startattack
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Fox, null
/cast Cobra Shot

#showtooltip Kill Shot
/startattack
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/startattack
/cancelaura Deterrence
/cancelaura Hand of Protection
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Hawk, null
/cast Kill Shot

(Why is this formatted the way it is? Well in many PvP circumstances, you have a split second to kill your enemy before a heal lands on him/her. If you're in the middle of casting a Steady/Cobra Shot, you may not get the kill! Thus, this macro will stop your current cast, cancel auras that don't let you cast, turn on Aspect of the Hawk, and shoot your Kill Shot!)

For Marksmanship! (I PvP in this spec and swear by it!)

#showtooltip Steady Shot
/startattack
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Fox, null
/cast Steady Shot

#showtooltip Chimera Shot
/startattack
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Hawk, null
/cast Chimera shot

#showtooltip Aimed Shot
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Hawk, null
/cast Aimed Shot

(Watch out for the Aimed Shot one - you won't see the glittery spirals around it when it procs insta-cast with a macro)

Beast Mastery!

#showtooltip Kill Command
/startattack
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Hawk, null
/cast Kill Command

Survival! (Who PvPs as survival anyway?

#showtooltip Explosive Shot
/startattack
/castsequence reset=1 !Aspect of the Hawk, null
/cast Explosive Shot

Some other macros I use all the time in PvP but aren't necessarily related to Aspect switching:

#showtooltip Silencing Shot
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/cast [target=mouseover, harm][harm] Silencing Shot

#showtooltip Scatter Shot
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/stopattack
/cast Scatter Shot

#showtooltip Deterrence
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/stopcasting
/use Healthstone
/cast Deterrence
