Epic Gear, I Hardly Knew Ye…

Drach, Draenei HunterSo, I hope you all are still enjoying the expansion. It has been a wild ride for sure. I wanted to check in with everyone and see if you all are grieving the loss of your epic items that we all worked so hard on?

I understand it, don’t get me wrong, we are upgrading. That’s part of the allure of games like this; improving our characters and getting them better gear…it’s what we do.

There just seems to be something wrong, however, by going back to green items after working so hard to get the items that we got in Northrend. It was hard enough coming out of Outland with gear we worked our tail off for, then literally, not an exaggeration… but literally… stepping off of the boat and talking to some guy with a moustache got me a much better bow than the one I toiled through dungeons to get.

Thankfully, we aren’t quite at that point with the Cataclysm, but personally, swapping out a purple item for a green just feels wrong. I mean… we can at least scale down to blue items..?! I know that it’s completely all mental – the items are better, plain and simple, no way around it; but I still feel like a cheap hooker walking around in green gear. I feel dirty…

At any rate, I hope you all are having some fun in the new expansion. I know I am. I hate to leave Vash’jir; it’s just a beautiful zone. Some of you from the forums know how much I appreciate the atmosphere that the zones bring. It makes a big difference for me. I didn’t want to leave Grizzly Hills when hunting for Arcturis, and couldn’t wait to leave The Storm Peaks after hunting Skoll – the atmosphere and music combined with the ambient sounds are a great combination in some zones, and some zones just miss the mark.

They got Vash’jir right.

The ambiance underwater is amazing and the music is very intense. I’m a man. I do manly things and pursue manly endeavors, but the deep sea freaks me out. I literally (ok maybe not literally) peed myself when all of a sudden I’m trucking along on my seahorse and this eel pops out of nowhere and attacks! It startled my wife because I jumped, and I may or may not have screamed like a wee girl… allegedly.

On a sadder note… my time in Vash’jir has drawn to a close, but not before some really cool quests that culminated in a battle for the Throne of Tides, which was really bitchin. Naga and Elementals everywhere – – pretty sweet, check it out:

Throne of Tides Battle in Vash'jir

Plus, one of the funniest quests ever, not hard at all, and pretty sucky rewards as far as us hunters go… but seriously, it’s called Free Wil’hai or… FREE WILLY! Too hilarious… you free a Whale Shark named Wil’hai! I just wish it could have ended with Drach standing on a ledge and “Wil’hai” leaping over him to freedom, but hey, we can’t have everything!

Free Wil'Hai

Well, what’s next for Drach you ask? Sing with me everyone, “Don’t wanna close my eyes!!!, don’t wanna fall asleep, cause I miss you baby, and I don’t wanna miss a thing!!!” That’s right guys, off to Deepholm!

Leaving Vash'jir

Take time to smell the Mageroyals!

  1. I’m so making her my wallpaper when I finally get over there. Nothing like rendering a room speechless with your wallpaper before the start of a meeting. Hello HD projector.

  2. Is it just me of does it seem like there is a lot of mail with +int for quest rewards? So far at 1 bub out from 84 I have about half greens and half ICC purps. And a green gun that does about twice the DPS of my Zod’s.

    • Yea I’ve noticed that alot of the good dps mail items are not that great with the bonus stats, I haven’t noticed the INT a lot, but there is a total lack of hit rating anymore. I think they are forcing us to use the reforging portion of the game honestly..

  3. I completely concur about the greens being better than your WOTLK purps. Same thing happened with the other expansions, and it was ridiculous. I dont get why your purples cant at least last you a few levels into your 80s(im sure some do).

It goes back to blizzards issue with having a hard time making older content relevant to the new expansion that comes out. Is it completely impossible to not have every new expansion screw up the previous one? I think they’ve seriously slacked in certain areas over the years, especially when it comes to balance in PVP. They can never seem to even get it halfway right, and now hunters are at the bottom of the barrel in pvp. For shame blizzard! They better fix that ASAP.

    • The problem with new expansions and gear is it’s not so much the gear it’s self, it’s the enchants and gems and set bonus added on. Then alternatively, you have guys who just dinged 80 and never stepped foot in a heroic. And most people want to be able to pickup new gear halfway through the first zone, if not the beginning of the second zone. I was quite disappointed that my t11 pants lasted me all the way through 85 heroics. Figure, most of us have been looking at the same gear for months now and it’s certainly was time for a change. I wanted to see the new designs of the new expansion as well as giving me a proper reward for killing all those dragons for that guy so he could make those things.

      • That’s true, I couldn’t wait to get those drapery looking shoulder armor off. I mean, I know I’m older than most, but it looked like an old Carole Burnette sketch where she wore the curtains, curtain rod and all as an outfit, it was hilarious, and those t10 shoulder pieces always reminded me of that for some reason.

  4. I msut admit to not liking Vashj’ir much. I’m a bit of a lore geek and I loved Hyjal. I have done every single quest in Hyjal and in Depholme and have started on Uldum. Just dinged 84 last night. I have not set foot in an instance either. Hour long queue’s are not worth it. On a lighter note…the guild is going back to ICC once a week to knock out some achievements. A 10 man group with about half at level 85 and nobody below level 82 makes pretty quick work of poor old Marrowgar 😀 I only have one two bits of ICC gear left and I expect they will be gone soon. Que’l Delar is sitting in the bank next to my Barov Peasant caller.

  5. I was expecting the gear issue so it was not that bad. I am very happy not to have a helm with a phallic symbol in the middle of my forehead now. So far Deepholm is my favorite zone but that’s a dwarf for you. Even taking my time and completing Vash and most of Deepholm I have hit 83 pretty easy. As for dungeons, the 45-60 min queue has kept me out of those for the most part. Mostly been soloing with the Clifford the big red dog (aka. The Beast) and knocking out some fun quests.

  6. Just hit 85 on my main last night after doing all the quests in Vash’jir, Hyjall, Deephom and most of Uldum. Taking a break from questing to just chill and level archeology now. Then I’ll power through the end of Uldum, do all the quests in Twilight Highlands and then MAYBE get into a dungeon. I haven’t set foot in a single one yet and its mainly cos I don’t wanna deal with the drama. Wipes I’m fine with. Everyone arguing with everyone else over who caused the wipe is just NOT how I wanna spend my precious game time right now! =P

    Anyhow, power on Drach!

    • The quests have been very cool, I totally understand taking it easy too, especially as I’m gearing up for heroics, I hear they are quite tough and drama filled right now. Twilight Highlands looks like an awesome zone too, I can’t wait to head there and get my quest on!

  7. I am in the zone just to get my Herbalism up and find the instance so I can toodle off to Deepholm but will come back to finish it. The view is amazing, music will be going on my iPod and I want to enjoy it without the pressure of seeing the low XP come bubbling across the screen.
As for the gear, I refuse to swap my ICC gear with a green but have picked up some nice blue’s. Yay for Bow and Boots!

    • Nice Abby, I hope your server is still craving new herbs like mine was, I made a booty load picking herbs and selling them the past couple of weeks!

      • It seems the bulk of our server (which is low pop thankfully) has moved ahead of me so I am free to flower pick. Those first few days were horrible. Gankfest for flowers!

    • Yea, then end definitely left me wanting for more…but it’s a great tie in to the dungeon Throne of Tides, which I thought was cool, gave more meaning to running through that one.

  8. Just got back and got into hyjal… got to 81 and was kind of disappointed with the zone. So my loyal mastiff and I went and drowned in vash!!

Love the Zone! not even halfway done!

Would loved to have seen some 85 garwulf pvp posts but oh well. Happy leveling to all the hunters out there!
