It’s ready

Gar UI Updated

I still need to update my screenshots and description, but I didn’t want to keep you waiting any longer. Click on the image above to go directly to the download page.

Be sure to open the ReadMe.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please post them in the comments below.

Quick and Easy Install Instructions

  1. Download the package from WoWInterface and extract it to your desktop.
  2. Navigate to your WoW directory.
  3. * * * IMPORTANT * * * Drag your existing WTF and Interface folders out onto your desktop. This step allows you to keep a backup of your existing UI.
  4. Copy and Paste or simply drag the contents of the GarUI package into your WoW directory. I recommend copy/paste just in case you need to start over for any reason.
  5. Open your WTF backup folder and copy/paste or drag/drop your Config.wtf into the GarUI WTF folder. This isn’t abolutely necessary, but it allows you to retain many of your in-game settings (e.g., camera distance, mouse settings, etc…).
  6. Drill down through the contents of the WTF folder, renaming the generic folder labels as you go.
  7. Log into your WoW account.
  8. Click on the AddOns tab on the character screen, then make sure Load Out of Date AddOns is checked.
  9. Log in with the character who’s going to try on my UI.
  10. type in: /reflux switch GarUI

A couple of install screenshots to further illustrate…

At this point, the UI should be configured more or less. You’ll likely have to move the chat frame manually. To do this, just hover over it, then right-click on the General tab and click Unlock Window. Move and resize the chat frame as needed.

The UI is set up to work out-of-the-box for 1920×1200 resolution monitors, with the UI scale slider at this position…

Gar UI Scale

In my tests, I found that my Unit Frames needed a little kick in the ass in order to get them to their designated location. To be sure they’re positioned as intended…

  1. Type: /suf
  2. Go to the Profiles tab
  3. Select Default from the Existing Profiles drop-down, then switch it back to GarUI.
  4. Unit frames should reposition slightly.

If you’re not running at 1920×1200, then you’ll probably need to adjust things a bit. One thing you’ll need to tinker with is KGPanels. Nearly all of the panels are parented to their respective addons, so if you reposition an addon, the panel will follow. If you need to adjust the size or position…

  • type in: /kgpanels config
  • navigate to the panel you need to adjust, then nudge it with the config settings.

KG Panels Config

I hope you like the UI! I’ll try my best to answer any questions you may have, but hopefully this post gets you up and running.

Enjoy!

  1. I really want to try this UI out but every time I try to install it I end up having issues.. My screen never looks like it should after installation. Maybe you can tell me what I am doing wrong? I was tryin to include a screenshot after installation but I cant seem to do that either. Thanks in advance.

    • If you want to resize only the bars:

      Type: /bt4
On the left, click on Bar 1, Bar 2, etc… On the right, drag the Scale slider to where it works for you.

To make everything a bit bigger you go into your game menu, then Video options, select the Advanced option and adjust the UI Scale.

      Hope that helps.

  2. Hey Garwulf,

First of all, thanks again for the awesome UI!

I have a bit of a problem with the raidframes.
I had to resize some things since i don’t play the reso that is intended.
Now i can’t seem to move the raidframes inside the black box as you can see.

Could you help me out please?

    Thanks,

  3. Thanks for an awesome update and tweak!

The only disturbing thing in your otherwise flawless UI is the Blizzard raid frames tab to the left. Maybe you left it there for a reason but if not, you can disable it via SUF.

    • I’ll check that out Norm. I looked for a solution to that problem at the time, and the only thing I saw to do was run a macro after each login.

I’ll check in SUF and see what I see.

      Thanks!

  4. Thanks for the great UI.

I had a hitch I had to debug that didn’t have anything to do with your config, but I thought I’d share it here in case others have had this problem.

With the 4.0.1 upgrade KGPanels stopped working for me. No mater what I did (delete, wipe out my saved variables, reinstall) they just wouldn’t render. I decided just to uninstall and call it a day.

Then loading your UI, I just could NOT get the panels to render. To make a long story short, I went into /KGPanels config, and under layouts there were “None” and “Difool SV”. There was no GarUI layout. If anyone knows where KGP stores it’s layouts give a yell, because it certainly isn’t in Saved Variables.

I deleted that layout, and then started your instructions from the very start, and – BINGO! – It worked exactly has claimed.

So TL’DR: If you aren’t getting the panels (and things like Recount are looking funny), then:
    1) /kgpanels config
    2) Look under “Layouts”, if you see an old layout that you created before, and no GarUI, then optionally export that layout and then delete it.
    3) Start Gar’s instructions fresh from the start.

    • Actually, I also seem to have a similar issue with Recount, and Omen (other add-ons that I have used and configured). In both cases my old profiles are still there, and seemingly because of that, the GarUI profile loads as default, not as intended in the GarUI. This isn’t a huge deal, as I can reconfigure that profile, but it is interesting.

Anyone know where these add-ons are storing their profiles? I’ve certainly blown away the WTF, Interface (as well as Cache and Logs) folders before installing, but the old profiles still exist, and seem to slightly trip up Garwulf’s UI deployment a tad.

  5. hey gar, for some reason my email isnt working right now so here what i was gona say.
It seems that GarUI was not in the list of profiles. the list consisted of, Default, hunter, and Lilvoljin-winterhoof. (lilvoljin is my hunter)

  7. Ok so i’ve been looking a little closer at reflux and in the install notes i found this.

    “Translations
When you download a mod, please be sure that the mod is compatible with your translation of wow. Some mods only work on the US versions, while some only work on some of the various European versions. These variations are called “Localizations”.

I dont know about Slyse or Same Guy but i am on EU sever since i live in the UK is it possible this is a sever compatability issue with some of the downloads. Are there any EU server users that have had success installing GarUI?

I need to go out now but when i get back i will be looking into “Localizations” for the mods included in the UI

  8. Hey Gar, sweet UI. I’m going to check it for fun here shortly. I was more curious though about what key binds you use for well, everything. Just curious how you setup your core abilities and things. I feel like I need ideas on key binds as my current ones just seem sloppy. I use similar as you now for focus, g to set and f to assist. Then like q for disengage, e for feign death, r for mark.

    Reply
    • Definitely a sweet UI man, reflux is very handy. I had some questions on your SBF setup though. Are you not tracking your debuff’s on targets at all? Are you filtering target buffs in a certain way? Satrina’s interface is pretty rough for some reason, I’m use to elkano’s I guess so the filtering is a bit more intense. Anyway, thanks for the setup, very clean and didn’t have to do much tweaking for it to work at my resolution.

  10. I am not aware of a macro to set focus…..I have the macro to use MD on the target that I have set focus to and if that target isnt available or dead then it will MD to my pet. With this new UI I have to click my macro then click on the tank or my pet which in battle can be a lil difficult sometimes.

    • Hotta,

Just go into your Key Bindings interface via the Options menu, and assign a keybind to set focus. Like so…

This makes setting your focus much smoother and more efficient. I also assign T to target my focus – mainly for PvP purposes. This system works well vs other hunters. 😉

I see a hunter in a BG, I almost always immediately focus them. As soon as they feign death, I instantly retarget them by hitting T and I don’t miss a beat.

I also have a macro set up for assisting my focus, and have it bound to G.

      F – Sets my focus
      T – Targets my focus
      G – Assists my focus

    • I find it’s handy because once in a blue moon you may forget to hit your aspect after a res, or you may accidentally shut it off with an errant key press or something.

I’m pretty automatic with activating Hawk, but this helps when something goes wrong that thousandth time.

99.9% of the time you’ll never see this aura, but it’s nice for the times when it does alert you 😉

      Reply
    • That’s a Power Aura that displays when you’re not in Aspect of the Hawk. You can delete it or change it by typing: /powa

It’s the first aura in the pane. Just hit ctrl+delete key to remove it, or you can click edit and adjust it however. You’ll definitely need to do this for your non-hunter alts.

  11. Sadly still no joy 🙁

Whatever is causing this problem is most definitly going wrong with the /Reflux Switch GarUI stage every thing goes according to plan up till this point. Its like rather than switching it copies the default setting and uses them to create a new profile called GarUI :s. I wanted to get a screen shot of the error i saw before but now i cant get it to throw it up again eaither.

I sure hope we can work this out as i want to feel that feeling Hotta and Keluna have as i revel in the beauty of this UI comp 🙂

Quick question how do I set focus on someone? i.e the tank or my pet? In the blizzard UI you could right click on portrait and “Set Focus”….I have not been able to find this feature.

    Reply
  14. Actually, that begs another question. With the pain staking attention to detail that you put into prepping this UI, I’m sure you fine tuned it so that the addons work seemlessly with one another. What addons would you recommend for the following that won’t interfere with the chemistry:

1)Raid notifications – I know you used Dues Vox before..
    2) Auctions – I think Auctionator in the past
    3) Gear management – I mainly raid on my hunter/warrior but dabble in the others, what would you recommend that won’t be as clunky as the blizzard equip manager but won’t mess up the UI
    4) Gatherer? will it throw anything off?

I’m sorry to inundate you with these. You really are going above and beyond by providing us such great UI support as well..

  19. Unfortunately, the re installation did not go well. I still have the same problem. however, i noticed that the only difference between the GarUI and the default is that the XP and rep bars are not there in GarUI and are in default. Also when i type /reflux show, it said addons are not being saved or something like that. And when i typed /reflux copy GarUI it popped up and error. now, since this probably wont work for me, do you think its possible that i could make your UI by myself instead of just using a reflux command?

  21. Type in /reflux show and see what it says.

Type in /reflux copy GarUI, then /reflux switch GarUI.

Your situation seems to have some sort of unidentified variable at play.

Try it one last time with a fresh install. This time, don’t even bother with your Config.wtf.

    – Make sure you still have your original Interface and WTF folders backed up.
    – Delete any and all files in your WoW directory that are called: Interface, Texture or WTF
    – Open the GarUI 5 folder and copy/paste the Interface, Texture and WTF folders to your
    WoW directory.
    – Rename YOURACCOUNTNAME to your original account name (not e-mail), Your Server to your character’s server name, and Character to the toon’s name.
    – Log in and make sure all addons are enabled and Load out of date AddOns is checked.
    – Log in with the character you renamed the Character folder to.
    – Type in /reflux switch GarUI

    That’s gotta work… I hope. :-\

(or not depending on if it is) when i re installed it and went to switch it to default and back to GarUI, the list did not have GarUI in it.. so i did the command /reflux switch GarUI and boom it was added to the list, BUT it is the exact same as the default so i think theres a bug or something that makes the command /reflux switch GarUI actualy copy the existing one and names it GarUI.. either that or i messed it all up..

    • Go to the ShadowedUF config by typing: /suf

Uncheck Lock Frames. Drag the raid frame where you want it or anchor it to another frame. You can get precise with the positioning by going to: Unit Configuration/Raid/Frame. There is a field for x and y coords in that config area.

I’m instructing by memory, so I may have to log in when I can and verify those are the steps. I’m pretty sure they are though.

    • Yea, this version is more or less the same as before, with a few extras and a new paint job. The addons are the same.

      From the ReadMe:

      ———————————————-
      II. Installing for multiple characters
      ———————————————-

      1. Log in with the character you have the UI successfully installed on.

      2. Create additional UI profiles by typing in: /reflux create MyAltsUI (e.g., /reflux create BrickUI)

      3. Copy the main settings into the new profile by typing in: /reflux copy GarUI

      4. Perform steps 3 & 4 for however many more alts you want.

      5. Once you’re finished, switch your main back to the primary profile by typing: reflux switch GarUI.

      6. Log in with your alts, typing in /reflux switch NameOfAltsUIProfile (e.g., /reflux switch BrickUI)

      7. You’ll now have multiple instances of the GarUI with which you can make character based customizations and changes to.

    • Just copy/paste your macros and keybind files from your WTF backup.

At the bottom of the ReadMe file:

      ———————————————-
      Additional Notes
      ———————————————-
As I’d outlined in Step 2 of the installation instructions, make sure you save backups of your WTF and Interface folders. One thing you may have to do is restore your macros. To do this, open up your backup up WTF folder and go to:

      WTF/Account/YOURACCOUNTNAME/

Copy: macros-cache.old & macros-cache.txt files and drag them into the YOURACCOUNTNAME folder in your WoW directory.

Perform this same step for the macros-cache.old & macros-cache.txt files in the character folder.
      ———————————————-

      Same for the keybinds.

Put them back in and you should be back in business.

    • It won’t ruin them if you save backups of your Interface and WTF folders.

But… if my UI package contains some of the addons you’re already using, which it probably does, you’ll have to reconfigure those addons for your other UIs. I don’t believe there’s an easy way to “merge” the Saved Variables files, so you need to use mine (overwriting yours) in order for it to work right. However, my setup will co-exist quite nicely with addons that are not used in my UI.

In order to run multiple UIs, you’ll need to create separate profiles for each version, then make sure to load the necessary addons for each character.

The practical thing is to find one UI you like, then customize it for different characters if needed. Using multiple UIs with different layouts seems like it wouldn’t be worth the effort.

      I hope that makes sense.
